I wish I could suspend my disbelief when some people claim the show has nothing to be criticized for.

Except no one says star wars came ONLY from George. Star wars is HIS BABY. His voice and opinion has weight over his work. George has worked with multiple talented men and women BEFORE disney. A lot of Disney star wars just happens to be trash.

"It was really hard to tell these identical twins apart"... yes, that was the point. You built your story around this detail. They are called identical for a reason... The more people at or associated with Lucas Film speak, the more I am convinced they have never heard of writing a story.

I love this video because I've seen a lot of videos that address the bad writing, but I like the focus on time and space. That's really what made me truly dislike this show, the complete disregard for logic and narrative structure.

I think most characters are doing things mostly for the plot to happen. In the last episode, not only the twins seem to change their mind real quick but Qimir as well. He listens to what Osha sees in the vision then gets convinced Mae can still be his acolyte and even tells her to strike Sol and finish her training journey, only to pick Osha again as his acolyte simply because she managed to kill with no weapon. This defeats the whole purpose of the Osha - Qimir ship dynamic. This just makes him look kind of like Sol, obsessed with having an acolyte(padawan) and maybe not caring about Osha at all, he would take anyone who is able to kill with no weapon.

I love your analysis. Even after this time. Real in depth = strong Would have loved to see your take on Ahsoka. I love it that if Thrawn was so smart, the first thing he would do is kill Sabine, then Ezra would not have been found and Ahsoka would have nowhere to go and Thrawn could have taken his time and leave Ahsoka and Ezra behind. I have been a YT film critique fan since RedLetterMedia started 🙂

Great breakdown. The immersion was completely gone for this production, as you pointed out, within the first 10 minutes. The most interesting thing was there being somehow a campfire in space, and that says a lot. Have a sub. Good content.
@kofola9145

The most interesting thing is how the bandwaggon causes people repeat opinions that are objectively wrong. If there is fuel, oxidant and an initiation then this set up will result in fire. In space, in water, underground. Not to mention there are numerous examples of fire in Star Wars space, you know, it does not exactly follow the laws of physics, that why star fighters dog fight and capital ships use Napoleon era tactics. But no one told you to hate that, right?
@programmedgamer7101
@programmedgamer7101 2 месяца назад
@kofola9145 I was debating whether to respond or not. Part of me wanted to go like "Thank you! You fixed the show!!!" or "Never mind, it's actually just good, and I have no ability to form my own opinions." But instead, I'll just say you missed the entire point of my comment. The fire didn't kill my immersion, just the mechanics behind it were more intriguing to think of than all the material I had consumed prior. I don't even hate the show, I actually find it to be a huge waste, and that's probably the part I'm most bothered by.

@@programmedgamer7101 ok, you are right, it was a great scene. How the past trauma influences the character and shapes presence and the future. But what do the people say instead? There is no fire in space. Yeah, there are also no lightsaber. We have space wizards, dog fights and fire in space, but fire in space is where we draw the line.

@@Raximus3000 Of fire in SW space? Have you ever watched Star Wars? Every space battle that has ever happened in Star Wars has something burning and exploding. People always say "good writing is show dont tell" but so many people like anime 😂 all anime does is exposit every aspect of the series to the audience. Every hero and villain (most of the time) explain how all their powers work to their opponents and vice versa (just one example)

This is a perfect summary of Acolyte critique. Presenting own personal ignorance as facts used to critique the show. yeah, you prefer to waste time watching random people daily routine. I prefer when they say explicit and redundant things like "You were my brother Anakin, I loved you." And the other guys goes like "I HATE YOU!" Acolyte follows the prequels style, with a lot of exposition. But if that is your preference, that is your preference. Show, dont tell! But when they do show, it does not count. The moment they stop using redundant dialogues, you cant figure out what the scene is supposed to be about. Osha was a jedi. And Jedi have this arguably somewhat stupid ideology of believing everybody is worth saving. Even their sworn enemies. Even at the ultimate personal price. She wants to leave the prisoner, but then the indoctrination kicks in and she saves him at her own expense. That is what Jedi are. But I get it, they did not explicitly tell you that so you missed it. Yeah, the guy probably should not know about her suspected crime. Unless he had some sort of a mind power. Which he is shown using it like a half a minute later. But then again, it was shown, not told, so you I guess you missed that. Yeah, except this is Start Wars, so physical strength means nothing. you know, something Yoda. Yord has been trained since little to be a guardian and protector. That probably made him a little one dimensional. No, Tobin does not have a family he can go back to, he is a Jedi. The Order is his family. Do you need an explicit and redundant dialogue to tell you he is more of a scholar than a terrain worker and he wants to go back to temple to study holocrons or something? Yes, they took the scenic route. And they did that because the murder happened after, the group was the one to find him murdered. But I quess there was no redundant, explicit dialogue, so you missed that. You know, in movies and shows, they use general sequence of events. It is not down to a minute. Like for example, when the ship enters hyperspace when the other comes out of it, that is an artistic reference to the other such scene in Star Wars. But I get it, they did not explicitly tell you. Yeah, bro, fire can and does happen in space. Learn some chemistry. And even if it wasn't. You know. This is a fictional universe. And you seriously complain it does not follow every laws of physics? Are you aware there is hyperspace, space wizard, space dog fights and all the other stuff? Or do you need an expository, redundant dialogue to realize that? You dont know star wars. You dont know acolyte. You dont know critique. What are you even talking about?

How can be misognystic, dear Lesyle, consider the own author as the key of everything? Here is the main reason why I didn't give a chance to her show. That woman has conflict with George Lucas and does not have any respect for him. And I truly happy, that her show was canceled it. Enough is enough, stop hiring people who don't have any respect for the original creator, George Lucas deserves better.

Strangely, I wasn't bothered by the fire in space. They were on a spaceship, so it makes sense for there to be some sort of monopropellant pipeline, like hydrazine or PGDN. If the pipeline springs a leak, the monopropellant could oxidize itself (even in the absence of an atmosphere.) What broke my immersion was the fortress made out of flammable concrete. There was no reason for the original designers to pipe explosives through the residential section of the fortress, and there was no reason for the witches to continue pumping explosives after they took over. Plus, if the fortress was going to explode due to a single oil lamp, it should have exploded long ago... You're telling me that no-one in the last several years accidentally lit anything on fire? I'm sorry, but I just can't believe it.
@sam23696
@sam23696 2 месяца назад
I thought the idea was it overloaded the power lines. We see a shot of some wires on fire, and a reactor looking thing later explodes. It's a common thing in sci-fi that power lines are often insanely unstable due to the amount of energy they distribute (Star Trek panels exploding). But then the argument just becomes "where is the fire suppression if the lines are unstable". And also your second point about a simple lamp causing it is also true.

@@BWintJack no yuh… I’m agreeing with you, I’m saying it’s a bit nonsensical to apply our understanding of physics/chemistry etc, to a setting where ‘wizards’ can move near anything with telekinesis, super weapons that destroy a planets can be built in less than 4 years, etc. lazy criticism, especially when people do give one a ‘pass’ and the other is a story breaking compliant of others.

If your story is meant to be a parable or just a fun show ride, then you probably don't work through the details of immersion. If you want a parable to work and not be simplistic Aesop's territory, then you have a choice. You can have your product work on multiple levels OR NONE. I enjoy being in strange worlds that don't operate by normal rules. It's a criticism I had of Stranger Things. It's set in a small rural town in the 80s, but has two characters coded or explicitly gay and be met with near instantaneous acceptance. Commit to your world. Contrast that with Minority Report. Spielberg consulted various scientists and futurists to make a believable world. Was it weird show offy nitpicking or just taking your fiction world seriously AS A CREATOR OF FICTION. Another contrast would be with George Lucas. In the prequel trilogy, he committed to the idea of Tatooine enough to contemplate how sand would feel in your crack.

You can't go to town criticising a show for bad writing when you also allow a mistake like this to creep in. [02:11] You render your criticism void when you can't even be bothered to proofread your own video text.
