Probably just tons of nepotist hires providing nothing to the product except a few idiotic demands but still getting paid. Maybe the see cocaine as a business expense, too.
No, in that regard, 180 million can go. Wastefully perhaps, but legally enough. Keep in mind you're talking about Hollywood, they can make having one cup of coffee brought to the set cost $1000.
"Fans don't like Black people in Star Wars." Billy D. Williams, John Boyaga, Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones, etc... It's like every new Black character is the "First Black Character in Star Wars, and people hate them b/c racism" as if the others never existed.
Disney removes them from promotional materials when they want to farm China for Profits.....hell they even did it to Chadwick in Black Panther...they covered his face up totally to "Hide" the fact he was black in the BLACK PANTHER movie!!!
I've heard fans call Mace Windu "woke" and his purple lightsaber "woke". But it was ok back then because nobody beat it over your head. Still. Why is being black called "woke" in the first place? I'm queer and people call me "woke" even though God made me this way.
I was so on board with Finn as a character. An ex-storm trooper who broke away from everything he's ever known because of his conscience?! Awesome! I want more of that! Instead, crickets... and screaming Rey's name at every opportunity. He could have been the most intriguing character in the series. A shameful waste.
No one had the slightest problem with any of the black characters in Star Wars. What they dislike is bad writing focused on catering to 0.4% of the population.
@@vektracaslermd743 I'm with you his character was completely let down in The Last Jedi. Just because I'm enjoying The Acolyte doesn't mean i'm a Disney shill. OR a Lucas shill for that matter. List of Star Wars things I will NEVER watch again: - Rise of Skywalker - Obi-Wan Kenobi - Edited/CGI added versions of the original trilogy (I need to see Han Solo shoot Greedo first, fuck you George) List of Star Wars things I will PROBABLY NEVER watch again: - The Return of the Jedi (luke and Leia are siblings? that's just fucking gross. Darth Vader neuteured? Glad they brought ESB Vader back in Rogue One. I missed you Vader! Boba Fett dies like a punk ass worthless little bitch. F U George.) - The Prequel Trilogy (fucking hell I wnat to like it but it's just the most cringe I've ever seen in my life) - Book of Boba Fett - Mandalorian Season 3 - Ashoka List of Star Wars things I LOOK FORWARD TO REWATCHING: - Mandalorian Season 1 & 2 - Rogue One - Andor (simply the best adult Star WArs since ESB no question) - The Acolyte (suprise! the non Star Wars shill actually is really enjoying this show) So am I a shill or what?
Disney makes spiteful characters who have to demonize, shame, and dumb down everyone and everything they dislike to feel validated. Meanwhile, the 90s X-Men cartoon had Nightcrawler give Wolverine a Bible. He didn't just shove his morals into Logan, he just gave him a choice. And it gave a man who had lived for too long as a rage-fueled fighter some peace of mind. It didn't come as preachy nor demonized everyone who rejected the ideals, just provided context of what one can find. That's the difference, one shows you the good something can bring, while the other cannot restrain itself from hurling bile at everything remotely different from its perception of reality.
At this point disney is using star wars like weekend at Bernie's. They have already killed it, and just keep propping up the corpse hoping no one will notice that it's really dead.
Oh, my brother! TESTIFY!!! Who could have predicted that there wasn’t a huge lesbian “modern audience” to replace the decades upon decades of the male audience?
I remember the books in the EU. They got the point of Star Wars. Those books covered many corners of the Lucas galaxy far far away. It was not until Disney started bringing Earth problems (realities) into that galaxy that the IP started to lose its popularity. It was not adding chicks--the EU did that---no it was attempting to destroy the EU and even the first 6 films that did that.
Only Disney could spend 180 million dollars to hire people so bad at television production they made Force Wielding Lesbian Space Witches lame. Hot Force Wielding Lesbian Space Witches throwing Force lightning at Jedi with a mediocre plot and writing to string together the fight scenes and it would have been a hit.
Review Bombing: When the audience hates your content so much, they go out of their way to let you know. Apologists: Waaah Waaah stop it! You're not allowed to do that!?
I've come to hate this stupid, stupid term. "Review bombing" implies that there is a coordinated effort of fanboys to attack the review score. Maybe there's not conspiracy here. Maybe the show just isn't very good and people don't like it.
What is "woke"? Being anyhting but straight white male? Please do explain I'm tired of people calling me "woke" just because of the way God made me. Fucking hell there is so much internalized hatred in many modern Star Wars "fans".
Bingo. The opposite of love is not hate. It's apathy. You have to care to hate something. This garbage isn't worth the energy of hating. Better to take in energy from laughing at it.
2:10 *Never forget:* Paul Tassi is the same guy who *_insulted_* us by writing, quote: "I believe that if you think [that *_The Rise of Skywalker_* is] worse than the prequels, you are either insane or lying. I also would go a step further and say that in the end, it’s probably the best of the new trilogy, though well behind the originals and _Rogue One_ ." _"You are either insane or lying."_ This was in his article called *_A List Of All JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker ‘Corrections’ Of Past Movies_* (21 Dec 2019).
Let's just equate DEI in entertainment to DEI for commercial airline pilots, doctors, etc. Fictional disasters will eventually translate to actual, real world disasters.
Yes. I see that, like me, you have experienced these terrible visions of things to come. We laugh about it now, but bad Star Wars shows don't cause bridges to collapse or planes to fall from the sky.
They have this argument that goes: "Who will cook authentic foreign food for you?" We can do it ourselves, the recipes are out there! Same with demographics: Hayao Miyazaki, an old japanese man, writes the best young girl characters. Sanderson, who has no mental conditions, writes people with disorders. With enough research you can replicate an authentic experience. It requires effort, discipline, talent, and more! But the reward is guaranteed to be worth it!
My interest in The Acolyte is strictly of morbid nature. I fully expect to witness something between Star Wars' death rattle and Viking funeral when it is finally over.
I had no intention to watch this. After all the publicity, i was "like it can't be that bad." I was wrong. It really is as bad as everyone says it is. I barely got through the one episode that i watched.
So maybe the show is so bad and angers so many poeple, they are pushed to write reviews. I for example rarely review stuff movies, to lazy, but when the last jedi deconstructed Luke i was furious enough to go to rottentomatoes , create an account and write a review.
Lucasfilm was founded in 1971, the same year George Lucas made THX1138. The first movie with the Lucasfilm banner was American Graffiti in 1973. This is years before the first Star Wars toys that were released in 1978, almost a year after the premiere of Star Wars in 1977.
There are direct parallels between the video game crash of 1982 and the Star Wars crash of 2024. Both happened because the market was suddenly flooded with inferior 'shovelware' from creators attempting to cash in. All Disney are doing with the I.P. is churning out Kias and putting a Ferrari badge on the grill.
Film critics don't exist anymore. You know, people with big brains or phd's in film theory that critiqued a film on its own merits. We have influencers. People who get paid to influence your opinion. We have RU-vidrs with opinions. People follow those whose opinion is closest to theirs. Or makes them laugh. Or informs them. We no longer have fans, because nostalgia is only going to disappoint. Without new stories, we stagnate. By telling old stories without charm or actually attacking the viewer, the studios stagnate. The studios will die the quicker - Because our attention / time / money / investment is what keeps them going. We are their success, that gives us power - no?
To be honest I think Disney Star Wars shills positivly review bombed the Acoylte but it is so bad any remaining Star Wars fans that were not already boycotting were driven away by the Acolyte and they left one last bad review on the way out. And i tell you if they are upset this show has less views than Ashoka then they should be aware this is as good viewer numbers Disney Star Wars will ever see again it is truly over this time the fanbase has moved on at last!
I think that's the problem, the people involved are working for themselves, not Star Wars. And it shows. It surely works for her, her fictional persona, her wallet. It is a disaster for star wars though... They could have just killed it instead they choose to "rape it" (obligatory Kyle's reference)
How no one looked at that and said to her “let’s not put this out, this is a bad idea”, shows the kind of people she has around her. That is wild they let her do that. I have never seen anything quite like that
It's mind boggling how the Disney shills refuse to leave their bubble of constant "-ist" accusations and experience the outside world. The world that understands the truth that Disney Star Wars is being destroyed by mediocrity. Expensive mediocrity!
so for 180m dollars the story, acting, sets, costumes, cgi and fights are above boba and obiwan? they all look pretty sub standard for a fortune. where the fuck is all that money going its not on the screen
A large portion goes to drug dealers who provide the showrunners recreational drugs the latter FALSELY CLAIM are prescription antidepressants. Another portion is used to bribe shills masquerading as "professional critics," to attack REAL 'Star Wars' fans in clickbait titles.
Do we really have to tell you the money is going to Kathleen Kennedy and Leslie headland who will tell you. I'm not sure about the distribution of the money
current theory is disney is paying itself $130-140m and making the series for $30-50m. its a massive accounting scam to make income look better for the investors. thats why all the sets are small, no big sound stage or modified real life locations, no real variety in costumes and lots of cheap filler moments and shoddy cgi.
They can hire whomever they want to act, direct, etc yes! If they can act- it will make people want to watch. If they can direct- it will make people want to watch If theee is an actual story-. People will want to watch and want more of it. If they cant- people wont watch! Its really that simple.
People that don't normally review shows only do so because they are passionately angry at what is being forced down their throats. They are fed up with the way Disney is destroying Star Wars. Period. It's not complicated.
One of the problems with the concept of "Review Bombing" is that I don't think there is such a thing to begin with. Let me explain, to get someone to care enough about something to put up reviews is impressive as it is. Those doing the "bombing" are expressing their opinions and that is exactly what this is meant to track. The claims that "bombing" is going on is rooted in the idea that people are rating things far lower than they logically wound due to hatred of the company, messaging, or just general pressure from other people that hate it. To be honest those are all fair reasons to begin with, as it's an honest expression of how these people feel about it. Of course a big part of this isn't just political. It's the rising realization that the media has been acting as a group of shills for a long time, access to events only being granted to those who agree to shill for a company. The days of critics influencing media, and stuff being made to win over their harshest critics being long gone. We've seen companies admitting that they help adjust ratings for companies, and all kinds of leaks, especially with sites like Rotten Tomatoes trying to adjust ratings upwards for companies, who want that massively high rating for their latest investment before it even comes out to help sell it and make money. They also want their work to be remembered as consistently highly rated and always perfect. The more the ratings were loaded, the more companies felt they needed like a 90% or higher positive score just to fit in with expectations. It took the every man a while to realize that this is loaded, and has been for so long, I think it's because Boomers (who are still high influential) and some of Gen X, still remember days when critics were more honest and effort had to be made to get ratings. If you look back at say a highly rated entertainment line up back in the day, to the trash now, you see a huge difference in quality and approach, even adjusting for the time period. It gets worse when the political investment gives people doing this stuff other reasons for wanting ratings to be seen that imply 90% or more of people agree with them. Even if they are cheating to do that, the thing itself is a powerful weapon, and this, as much as anything, impacts the current situation. When your aware that corpos are manipulating the ratings upwards, and you want your feelings to be felt, your now going to rate lower when you dislike something than you would before. So instead of rating something slightly below average as being that, your going to give it like a 1. Especially if there is political baggage on the product that you know is going to motivate extra attention to pumping those ratings. Your not bombing, so much as compensating for what they are doing. The thing is, that now that people have caught on, more angry people can dump the ratings than they can easily hire to pump the ratings without giving up any kind of illusion if integrity. There is no review bombing, in a world where review inflation had become the norm. The concept cannot exist when the integrity the idea depends on, hasn't existed for a long time. The only way to fix review systems would be to put some kind of actually regulated review process on it. Say make it so the FCC needs to get out of the business of bleeping swear words, but do things like force news objectivity in reporting, protect free speech, and monitor those claiming to be performing reviews to prove no one is tampering with them. See if you can be 100% sure, or as close to it as possible, that corporations aren't messing with the numbers, then you'll see more people being honest in their response. Of course this means that corporations won't be happy at an accurate barometer, as most things will likely be in the middle, and for those huge positive responses, they will need to actually work around what people like fans want. There won't be a place for activists in this, and the more fringe something is, the lower rated it's always going to be by normies. This is why there were things like fanzines originally by the way, people like horror fans knew what they liked was not going to resonate with normies, so they would have ratings specifically by fans following those magazines that gave you an idea how people who enjoyed fringe material rated it compared to other fringe material. This means a lot of these leftist pieces would be dumped back to the arthouse theaters, and only get high reviews from people specifically who are fans of that kind of political arthouse cinema. Something like the Acolyte probably deserves a 20-30% rating overall, mostly because of the sci-fi elements, that puts it well below average, which is where it objectively rates. That said something like that might rate higher in a publication that specializes specifically in queer cinema. The problem with this one in particular is that it's trying to pretend there is mainsteam acceptance of a very niche thing, and that just isn't going to happen, that is why it can get such ratings, as opposed to something that was simply terrible in general terms like "The holiday special"
Headland unironically praised roundhead ryan johnson and his "subversion". Everything else has also been per TLJ's M.O. Can you honestly be surprised its so bad?
Lesbian Space Witches could be done well. It isn't being done well, but someone deep in the lore could write that story without breaking canon every ten minutes. The very idea that Lesbians (or any combination of sex/gender/sexuality) is special or rare in a highly populated galaxy full of various sentient races is silly. With sentient trees, birds, lizards, dogs, etc... "diversity" isn't anything that needs to be forced.
Disney, Stop sabotaging yourself and bringing franchises with it! Please consider: - Apologizing can go a long way - Taking accountability is respected - Understanding criticism/feedback is an opportunity to improve - Saving activism for after work is low risk - Sticking to universal messages relates to broad diverse audiences - Embracing/appreciating fans yields positive outcomes - Making storytelling THE priority is why Disney exists - Making staff/cast decisions based on merit attracts talent - Accepting people with different thoughts and beliefs is part of diversity
There is no such thing as review bombing. It’s the voice of the customers and the customer is always right. What is criminal are the ethics of the professional critics who have zero credibility at this point and keep praising the garbage that has been produced under Disney.
What an inspiring speech! Fills me with determination! It's so easy to ignore low quality "content"! Let's act like humans and aspire to more! Do the exact opposite of those freaks! No more excuses! Overtake your former self! Get rid of all undesirable things! Embrace what actually matters! No more Jedi guilt!
Frankly it's probably getting review bombed positively and negatively which will kind cancel each other out . Bad is bad even if there is people review bombing it negatively for the meme and this show is horrible. It is rings of power level of bad . 4 episodes and essentially nothing has happened. The would've been better of putting 2 hours of a blank screen because it is the same basic effect.
I've seen shows with more viewers and higher ratings get canceled over less. How the Acolyte is still up makes me wonder what these actors did to deserve such humiliation.
Why do they get so angry with different opinions? What little I've seen of the show makes me not like it nor want to keep watching. But if someone else likes it, good for them. If I don't like, say, steak pie, why would that stop anybody else from liking and consuming it? We're not robots, we are allowed to have our own opinions.
It's almost like when you do something to purposefully piss people off, those people will tell you that you made them angry? Imagine calling yourself a " journalist " and not being able to solve this mystery.
The Woke DEI “hits” keep on coming. One commenter called it Agitprop and it is all cultural Marxism. They expect the primitive days of Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia control of all media but that has not come (yet). It takes a Totalitarian State and total control of all media to enable this garbage to “work”. This garbage has been in a lot of movies over the years. But more subtle and not in your face like now. And even decent movies like Dune1 and 2 are more subtle but the woke is there and Dune 3 should be full blown Woke.
The beauty of being part of the silent majority is that i dont have to let anyone know that I hate what Disney has done to Star Wars. I just need to silently close my wallet
