I coached Ricky since he was 8 along with his dad who was huge in his development, trust me you guys are getting one of toughest people mentally and physically gifted explosive guys with phenomenal hands, impeccable route running, he stays healthy and he will make HUGE plays at big times.

You can hate him all you want, and he absolutely loves it if you do because it does drive clicks...which I agree with you is not a strategy I appreciate...that said, even if sometimes incorrect, I think he is being honest about what he believes he is seeing. That doesn't mean I accept everything he reports as flat out fact. It means I take in his opinion as well as Mr. Lombardie here and weight both together against my own eye test. Discernment is an important and wise tool to brandish in any media-laden environment.

IMO Cohn is a contrarian in large part because he constantly finds that little bit of shadow in a sunny room and hypes it into midnight. The only positives I’ve ever read or seen coming from him were a result of undeniable success on the part of the team.
Grant profits off of negativity and vitriol. An entire legion of Niners fans has become bitter and whiny as a result of following his content. I choose to spend my time watching a less juvenile analysis than his.
I'll take Grant all day. And I really like David. Let's not get this twisted. But, I am a homer...I enjoy getting balanced in my fandom sometimes. And Grant's personality is just fantastic.
I like Pearsall the more I read about him and the more I see him. I know it’s just catching some punts in May, but very natural way of doing it. Looks comfortable and confident. I like it!
I like that you showed him run that little four cone drill and then it shows the others. You can see a difference between him and the rest of the guys. A lot cleaner and faster. I think he is the WR4 of this class
Interesting how Krueger and Cohn were not impressed and Cohn in particular reported having issues with press-man while Lombardi did not mention this and had created space with virtually everyone. It will be interesting to see this play out, but as Lombardi said it could be a non-issue as a slot receiver.
David in Tennessee Margo's home state? but I digress, David's coverage on the Niners has been stellar, very enlightening and analysis top notch. In fact, there is no competition in the bay area, in fact, they can't hold a candle to Lombardi's breakdown/metrics locker room interviews.
Great evaluation on Ricky. Some of these comments made on Ricky from other evaluators. Don’t realize how Ricky is going to be used. Everybody saying kyle did this because deebo couldnt beat man coverage in the super bowl. Other arhuement was to get ol not from kmart. All cbs say that they cant cover forever. Get a ol thats not 22 in pass protection and your wr will get open.
Teams will always regardless of current roster look to get better. Yes that was a valid concern but hardly the only issue in the Superbowl. Another was yes an average overall pass pro O line mainly right side and center. A boost to the DB room both Safety and Corner with higher floor depth was apparent, in order and, obviously attempted to be addressed. Like me some Mustapha and Greene. Everything else was icing and hopeful fit and competition enhancement. It's going to be interesting and the team will be a little different come wk1. MVPurdy 🎉 Predicting BA2k🎉 Pay the man. I want to see him block once pads come on. The route running, speed and hands are obvious. But jennings is a monster blocking and to take snaps from him RP is gonna have to block and want the contact.
I've known the Pearsall family since Rickey was in Pee Wee football. He comes from a high character family and his dad (Rick Sr) was a great athlete himself. Rick may be a little slight of build, but he's tough, fast, runs good routes and has amazing hands. My best friend as a child was Don Beebe ...and see some strong comparisons btwn the 2 (Don had a better top speed) Rickey is a bit taller.

Yo! David. I enjoy watching your videos. You should do a show with Grant Cohn. You both have different opinions and it’ll be actually good for us to watch just before the NFL season start. Just you two talking and giving your opinions and even have a debate. Then and the end of the season (hopefully with a chip) make another video just to evaluate what you guys were right and wrong.

David, I Don't listen to other analysts or reporters without doing research myself using various sources. I watch & study film. I started studying film on players in 2004 because the people on my job at the time had bets on games including the SB. So, knowing players talents by watching film was a huge advantage. lol I Love football!

While i do believe Pearsall is a good receiver, was he what Niners needed most. I'm no expert, but most analysts thought O-line was the most pressing need. Williams is 35+, can retire anytime. Center n R-OG had trouble with Jones n company in SB. Also, there are not many L-OT available in draft. There are a lot of WRs in every draft. Krueg, thought WRs aren't as highly prized, FAs available every yr. If Pearsall is the solution to press coverage, why keep Jennings, or draft another WR Cowing n sign UFA WR Owens son. There are 10+WRs for 5-6 spots. Brock won't be able to see an additional target if the O-line can't stop rush. Am I crazy, Niners exchange pick, so Chiefs can take an OT. When Kyle started with Niners, they built the D-line thru draft (Armstead, Buckner, Bosa, etc..). Now, they use re-trends (Hargrave, Gregory, Young, Farrell, etc..). Hard to build chemistry, if retooling every yr. Understand, winning seasons, means drafting lower. Not many wow picks. If speedy WR was what was missing, why wasn't this a priority before. Gray or McCloud hasn't panned out? My uneducated guess, Chiefs use press coverage to reduce Brock's ability to read defense quickly n to force him to hold ball longer, allowing more time to rush. Which seems to point to the O-line. While O-line was address in 3rd n 6th, no OT. More OG types. Kyle is the genius, hope it works out.
I personally think he's going to be fine, but you can't be objective if you said he did really, really good and didn't catch a single ball his fault or not. There's simply not enough information.

I think David meant Ricky was one of the best against man coverage. Pretty sure I saw against press man he's middle of the pack. But if that's the one hole in his game, it isnt much of a hole. i still think he was worth the 1st rnd pick. And complaining that Renardo Green was successful against him in press man is stupid. BC Malik Nabers got locked up for a whole game by Green. Nabers went in the top 10, didnt he?

My first thoughts were: "It's more in line with the available QBs throwing to him, or he was trying too hard, and will settle down as opposed to the skillset he's put on tape. Pearsall is similar size to Amon Ra St Brown. If his skill set translates to 60% of Amon ra , the 9ers will be tough to beat . CMC , deebo , aiyuk and kittle . Maybe kyle knew exactly what he was doing . 4th and Jennings for depth.

Cowing was the 4th fastest wide receiver at the Combine. If you remove the anomaly that is Xavier Worthy from the equation that would place Cowing as the 3rd fastest. The 49ers don't have a pure burner wide receiver. Brandon Aiyuk is fast but he isn't a true burner. If Cowing has good hands and can burn a beeline downfield beating his man he could open up the vertical game to the next level. IMO, this is why the Chiefs drafted Xavier Worthy, they want to open up a vertical threat with a pure burner wide receiver. I think Cowing will be a punt specialist if he has good hands and is able to move through traffic. David said that because he fact checks and he’s there: from the SB loss, Aiyuk drama, to the Rick Pearsall Drama it’s always Grant pushing hate and drama never was peace and calm it’s always conflict and drama to earn clicks. And if you’re someone who doesn’t fact check and who looks at his videos tgrj you get sucked in to the drama like a lot of fans did with Aiyuk. And David’s always the one reeling people back to reality, reminding fans the FACTS. So yes he has the right to say he’s right because he backed his videos and opinion with facts.

And saying Purdy wasn’t at rookie camp, while a FACT, also leaves out the FACT that the DBs were rookies too. My personal view is David needs to be wary of becoming an “opposite Cohn” if he doesn’t balance his opinions, and that he also doesn’t need to hype himself by talking himself up. Just my view. I still think he gives the best Niner insights.
