I've driven/owned an RX-8, G35, 350Z, WRX, and TSX. Even though the TSX isn't the fastest car, there's something about it that makes it one of my favorite. The design and profile is just beautiful and timeless. I have an 08 TSX with 40k miles, garage queen and people always mistake it for a 2015 or newer. Honda/Acura really did an amazing job with the design.
@JuanCarlosLTO
@JuanCarlosLTO Год назад
I agree! It’s a FWD design but I think it holds up pretty well. The RX-8… I wanted to like that car so bad when it came out but the known issues upon issues just were hard to ignore. My roommate bought an ‘04 (new) and had to have it towed a couple of times, MPG was very poor and the high revving engine had NO torque. It handled marvelously though and the space inside was surprisingly good
@JuanCarlosLTO
@JuanCarlosLTO Год назад
My favorite of all RX’s was the third generation. My older brothers and uncles had RX-7 of the first gen… (my older sister even got a second gen new back then… fun cars and they were reliable considering the nature of the rotary engine. My roommate kept his 2004 for a little over a year and he did flood the engine as well. Oil consumption was an issue and as you mentioned, the real life MPG, unexplainable for such a light car. Hard to take a gamble with one of those if you’re not a mechanic as repairs could get super expensive. I haven’t driven the new Z. I hear good things about it. I was disappointed a bit to find out that it’s not a new platform but instead a revised one but I understand car manufacturers not investing heavily on projects of lower volume cars like the Z. I like the prior gen but the drive was harsh. Especially for a daily driver but otherwise a great reliable car.

Well… 🤣 my case is a particular one as I got to experience the first gen TSX both as a brand new car with all the expectations associated with a big investment, specially as my first new car and now I have one with over 200k miles. The car drives great for such and old car and honestly both the exterior and interior aesthetics look pretty modern to me. 97k miles is nothing for this normally aspirated engine. Thank you for watching my video

The car can tell what octane fuel you're using and adjusts the timing automatically, so regular is fine. I would run a premium tank every once in a while and drive spirited to clean out the fuel system and blow out carbon. My 2008 civic si had a similar engine and was running strong at 280k on regular gas, all these engines will burn some oil as they wear. This engine is extremely robust and reliable and should go easily beyond 300k just keep checking the oil level.

This is what I did. I got some BC BR coilovers, lowered about 1.5", looks even more sporty (I dont like tucked or slammed). Make sure to get some rear adjustable control arms to correct the additional camber that comes with lowering the back. The front is relatively unaffected by the drop.

I drove old Integras for 14 years then finally bought a 06 TSX 6 speed with 104k on it. A few light mods. I have put 30k on it so far and can’t wait to put a couple hundred thousand 😅 worst part is the rust for me but I live in a road salt area. I’ve replaced the original front end parts and little stuff like a coil pack and the app sensor. It seems to maintain the build quality of the 90s Hondas. It’s the perfect mix of sport and luxury to me.

The build quality is definitely there. I wish I could own a manual transmission one but my wife doesn’t like to drive manual. This car has no rust on the undercarriage, at least haven’t found any. Terrific video sir. I have on 06 TL. I’ve gotten hell for not always using premium. I’ve usually used 87 octane and no noticeable difference. The car does have electronics to adjust for lower octane fuel. I have no ping, no check engine lights. I do however use top tier gas. Although in California the base gas is all the same. It’s the detergent package added that separates the brands. Thanks

I purchased a brand new CGP w/ Graystone 06 TSX Navi 5AT with Aspec package (later added Progress RSB, F/R adjustable camber kit, and fastline rear powerlink endlinks from HeelToe Automotive). Had many trouble free driving years before handing down to our son for his H.S. and college car in 2014-2019. Had the usual age related issues at +140,000 miles of A/C compressor, P/S pump/rack leaks, alternator, condenser fan, and faded paint (zero issues with 2.4L or 5AT). It would still be on the road today with +200,000 miles if it wasn't totaled by a red light runner in 2019.
@JuanCarlosLTO
@JuanCarlosLTO Год назад
Wow! I think these cars are extremely reliable if people understand that they weren’t perfect. This one has had the alternator changed twice (once by me) and the AC Compressor as well, which are common issues with these. Lately it’s been doing a grinding noise coming from the power steering pump (sounds like a Ford) and I’m sure it will be the next thing to go on it. The 5A gave me issues on my original one back in 2004 (the shifter would be stuck on park, I couldn’t get the car in gear) and I took it to the dealership twice and they weren’t able to recreate the issue therefore went untreated during my ownership. I just drove it 1600 miles round trip to Texas and the car did great with MPG in the high 20’s. What did you replace yours with? Curious to know

I got an 05 TSX 5AT in silver with 144k miles for my first car and I've had it for over a year now. Absolutely love it! It handles amazing around turns even with snow tores and so far the only issue I had was the alternator, as it went out after a couple weeks of getting it. Other than that, with how much I beat on this car it's held up perfectly so far. I love how the car looks but I'm starting to do some cosmetic mods to get it to look how I want it to. It's also in need of some body work and it's started to rust on the rear quarter, since I live in Minnesota salt and snow does a number on cars here. The rear quarter is very commonly where rust starts on these cars, and same with the Acura TLs if I'm correct. So I'll be fixing that this spring. Also looking into a Yonaka catback exhaust so it sounds nice without being raspy and loud, and still looking nice. Thinking about some enkei RPF1s to pair with my summer tires so I can have the stock, curb rashed wheels for my snow tires and the nice wheels for the summer. My only complaint about the car is I wish mine had the 6 speed manual, since with my adhd I always find myself using manual mode and I've heard that's not great on the transmission. But then again, that'd be a good excuse to swap 5AT for a 6MT. I also think the stock ride height is a little too high for my liking so I'd like to get it lowered about an inch and a half. Thanks for making this video!

The Car color is premium white pearl all around which looks nice and stands out than other colors and it is in very good condition with Navigation. The car has no scratches, no dents, has perfect paint correction and stands out polished because of its white color. Im happy i waited years and researched the whole time and "finally found one" for $12,999 pretty expensive but worth every penny because this car is very very very hard to find especially 200"8" year the white color with vey low milage and very clean, perfect condition outside and inside tan interior. Happy and finally own one.

You're not going to blow the engine on stock compression at all. Basically impossible to throw a rod unless you never ever change the oil. You might need to do a VTEC solenoid, ignition coils or plugs but those are easy fixes and maintenance items. 2006+ has upgraded cams, bigger RBB plenum and head flow. Parts are common and you can repair it from the yard for cheap. The Gauge cluster is fully customizable and memory seats are some key features you didn't outline, you can customize the remote lock horn and everything. I do reflashes on these cars and others. 4k RPM VTEC and 8K redline on stock internals +30HP and 20NM TQ. The E30 are like iconic high school drug dealer cars and I always wanted one lol but not the same class in terms of reliability. It has the same engine as the S2000 and same suspension setup. The 3 series has a very tight cockpit and it's not conducive for long drives, so I chose my 06 TSX over a 2013 Navi XI drive. You can do Hyundai Brembo direct bolt on. 06+ with dual 2.5" exit are proper. Turn key is better because your car is harder to steal. You can CRV drivetrain direct bolt on swap AWD these cars and turbo them on stock internals. The Auto trans can handle 400hp, 300+ tq. and the stock injectors can handle 240HP. Once you get rid of the Tesla, you should get a project TSX and clap her out
@JuanCarlosLTO

Great comment! Where to start? About blowing the engine… little by little I’ve been getting comfortable with it… I just didn’t know the car and didn’t want to drive it aggressively lol… not that I do know but I wouldn’t rev it past 5k… About the reliability: the E30 has been weirdly reliable, it even has the same battery I bought it with 10 years ago coming this May. I have, however, spent thousands on preventive maintenance etc and done things to keep it running; I’ve put 100k myself of the 235k that it has. The Acura has started to make a grinding noise coming from the steering pump. I thought the S2000 was a 2.0. We ended up selling the Tesla and haven’t looked back. We’ve put over 7k miles on the TSX. I’d love to see the AWD conversion on these. I don’t know how long I’ll keep it. Having no new car payment is sooo nice, granted, the TSX continues to be reliable. I tried getting OEM headlights for the crisp look but they’re out of stock until further notice… they were $800 and they cancelled my order. Found a dealership that has them but they want $2200 GTFO. Thank you for your throughout comment.

@@JuanCarlosLTO You're right S2000 is K20, my mistake! Great to hear the E30 is treating you well, give and you receive! Your collection is enviable and show your care. With anything, if you know the platform in and out you can probably get that thing to last a lifetime with the rate you're going at it. For the TSX the power steering pump is a common point of failure but it's a cheap fix if you DIY it. Dealership will try and charge you 1200 bucks in parts and labour, that's what they tried on me anyway. I think it is nonsense since lifetime valve and chain maintenance is 500 bucks. Do the O rings on the high and low pressure lines of the system first, try and purge the air from the system by lifting the front wheels off the ground, taking off the cap and turning lock to lock for 15 reps a side. If the problem recurs the air is getting in either from the main seal of the pump or maybe the rack and pinion. Thankfully racks aren't very expensive. A great upgrade for these engines is the 50VTC gear. 06+ on stock internals, very solid engine. If you like the Euro R look or you want amber delete you can go DEPO Spec D headlights. If you're looking for a cleaner amber setup your local pick and pull or Facebook group will easily sort you out. There is a lot of community support for these cars. For awd check out @awdpapatsx on instagram. :)

I watched a couple of AWD conversion videos and I’m not sure I’d do it. I’d love to see one with SH-AWD. I live in California so the crazy idea of doing it would be to improve the handling, not interested in on demand AWD. The SH-AWD is awesome and I tried it on the current RDX. As far as my car… now I’m hearing noises from the steering system, possibly the rack and pinion. Sounds and feels like broken glass in the system when I turn the steering wheel… $$$ 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣
