Sounds like eventually this will have the NACS port! We have to wait to see how it drives before we can make any conclusions but to me this looks and feels way better than Lyriq… at least the Lyriq that’s available today! Right off the bat the suspension improvements *should* make this a much better handling car than the Lyriq that’s currently available but we’ll have to wait and see until we drive it. Just a quick preview but if the bugs can be worked out from Lyriq and supply can keep up, this may be a great option!

At least for the US market from a practicality standpoint more manufactures should consider putting the charge port on the front passenger side like the Nissan Ariya, as it works well with existing Tesla superchargers (see Miss GoElectric’s short on the MagicDock) as well as makes curbside charging and charging when towing easier.

Why did they put the same uncomfortable rear seats in as the Lyriq? That massive wedge with the Isofix points was a dealbreaker for me for the Lyriq - such a shame.

@@theichione1827I agree, standardizing charge port location is a great idea. Short cables are easier to handle, keep clean, and avoid dropping the connector on the pavement which causes reliability problems. It would be even better to put the port on the driver’s rear. Having it on the driver’s side makes it easer to plug in at home every night.

Yeah, I get that "hearse" vibe too. (I see I'm not the only one). Looks a little goofy from the rear, overall. I appreciate the charge door though. No need for all of the complicated, motorized contraptions. The interior looks fairly nice. I'm VERY familiar with that steering wheel. It's the same as my Chevrolet Bolt EUV. LOL! 😄

@@ctingulz Saving costs I guess?. I have to question some of the decisions designers have made recently because it seems to be getting more polarizing to the end consumer. I personally want the piano black interior pieces to be designed out of cars. It looks nice but is impossible to up keep. The trend of adding on more screens on electric cars especially for the passenger seem a little over the top unnecessary.

I prefer the Lyriq and Blazer’s upscale electric assisted charge port doors especially for the price you’re paying. Honda cheapened out on this Acura and it shows in comparison to even the Chevrolet that this shares its platform with but clearly biased reviewers like this guy are trying to change that narrative with bs.

"I had a problem with the Lyriq cupholders and ergonomics." Huh? That one fiddly bit in the middle of the cupholders was all I remember you talking about there. The Lyriq center console is one of the best in any car I've ever owned. Plenty of space for cups, good wireless charger, nice storage bin and floor storage area. Ive driven a Lyriq a lot. I don’t agree about the lack of power for the rear wheel drive. It was plenty for every driving circumstance I could find. The one thing i will agree on is the charging door operation. I don’t know why the Lyriq went to the power door that skips badly. Everything else is so premium, I was surprised by this. For whatever dumb reason, Kyle, has a hard-on against Lyriq. While in the mean time he gives a pass on the overpriced Rivian SUV(90,00 dollars), with it's limited leg and passenger room(See his wife could not have enough leg room in front seat with second row child seat strapped in) or the so-called over 500 mile range Lucid Air, overpriced at 160,000 dollars, could barely make 372 mile trip(Pasadena to Phoenix), with setting cruise control to 70 miles/hr limit, he has no criticism. At the end of the day, the Cadillac lyriq fully spec, has a low price of 70,000 plus dollars, can compete with any of the high end EV's, and that includes Tesla, BMW, Mercedes EQS, etc. Particularly when you consider the very competitive low price. Further lunacy, this Acura ZDX, without it even being released for review is "So Much" better than the Cadillac Lyriq. SMH.

Love that front end look. I like the pricing.. it gives me hope that the Honda Prologue will start within my price range especially if the tax credit applies. My main concern is on how well the ground clearance holds up in deep snow and how well the awd works.. I’m worried they’ll be giving up the excellent capability of sh-awd/i-vtm4 when transitioning to EVs. I plan to put a reservation in on a Prologue to at least have the option potentially available. To be completely honest, what I ideally want out of an EV is something like a EV Subaru Forester with 300+ mile range and still the same level of ground clearance and awd functionality as the ICE version and without losing much cargo space.

Not a fan! The exterior looks like a "Cadillac Funeral coach in the rear". The interior looks bulky and clunky, not seamlessly integrated like the Lyriq. And what's with the big padded hood over the driver cluster? Can a short driver even see over it? Also not a fan of the center console, too big and intrusive. Don't like the high curb on the passenger side. Looks to be hard reaching over to place items on the floor like a handbag. The Lyriq looks so much better inside and out.

I have been an Acura RDX customer since 2019. I received my invitation about this car on Thursday and thinking about it. The color is unique and the interior does remind me of my RDX. Would have preferred a PHEV instead of BEV.

Yep for a normal basic looking car that’s $60k+. I love how special the Cadillac is it being a luxury car and all, and the fact they took their time to make it feel and look expensive compared to the Blazer which is even nicer than this Acura.

It is a beautiful SUV. Yes, Acura dealers are ready to step up and tack on another $10k-$20k over MSRP. The charging door is in a bad location, what's wrong with the same place the fuel door always has been? Yes, I would hope the charging performance and range are better than other Ultium based vehicles.

Given that GM has stated they're switching to NACS/J3400 for the 2025 MY, I wonder if this vehicle will do the same. Seems like a bad idea for Honda/Acura to release 1 or 2 model years of vehicles with a different charge port.

Lyriq is ‘only’ 5600 lbs in RWD and 5800+ lbs in AWD. Bound to make HP seem low for =6000, so it’s a good thing they’re coming with higher output.

Tri color black, blue, gray is stupid. The chrome piece in the roof makes the ZDX look like a Hearse. Get it in black , and it will hardcore look like a Hearse. The first thing any sensible owner would do is chrome-gray delete. Wrap those areas in black.

JUST BECAUSE it’s an Ultium based EV doesn’t mean it’s the same car! Yes this looks the same as the Lyriq with a 100 Kwh battery but the Honda is based on the Chevrolet Blazer and from the Blazer sticker that battery is only 80 or 85 kwh so they are not the same.

I own the new 2023 MDX and I can tell you that I wouldn't be buying the ZDX. The dash setup looks like GM and their dashboard has never been to my liking. There usec be a distinctive interior look to the Acura products, that is DEFINITELY not the case here and so besides being an EV that's a no for me also.

Great glimpse of the ZDX- thanks! Did you see anything other than the name that harkens back to the original ZDX? That was such a vehicle before its time. While the design was controversial, you could not deny that the V-6 and PAWS handling system was amazing. Even the aluminum center console was so cool and again, ahead of its time as it was designed to go completely dark making when you shut the car off, making everything look clean and asleep essentially. You started the car and the center console lit up with all white lighting, rising from the bottom of the console and traveling up. The car came alive with that and a nice rumble. Anyway, just wish if they used the ZDX name, they would have done more to connect it to the original vehicle. I don't see any styling cues inside or out, not even the cool looped pile carpets which had a really upscale feel.

7:52 It's not clear whether some of the OTA updates have already improved the LYRIQ's charging profile, but actual owners aren't reporting the same issues that Tom encountered. Even when plugging in a ~10%, I've seen reports from actual LYRIQ owners describing very similar charging profiles to what you saw when plugging in at 30%. GM does appear to use different charging profiles for different vehicle states (e.g., the charge profile when the car is powered on is different than when it is powered off), which could account for some of the differences. However, until I get an up-to-date version of the LYRIQ from GM for thorough testing, I can't really speak to what all those nuances might be.
@doncooper2344

Kyle's obvious bias against GM makes him look pathetic. The ZDX is better because of the charge port door and ... wait for it ... the cup holders. On the charge port door, it works or it doesn't . If it works then the wobble, which admittedly looks weird, is irrelevant. If it works better than the manual charge port doors, then it's desirable. IIRC GM has always had manual charge port doors, so I'm assuming engineering/marketing believe this is superior. Time will tell.

@@TeddyBearGaming999 in reality Acura isn’t upmarket and hasn’t been in a long time. They price upmarket but in normal times the discount is massive. You can get an integra for the same price as a civic si at some dealers right now. Acura is for the most part a forgotten brand.
