Yi Sun-shin's military record was fabricated by Koreans. Yi Sun-shin won only 3 battles until the Battle of Hansando during the first two months of the war, after which he continued to rout. In the Battle of Myeongryang (October 26, 1597 AD), Yi Sun-shin was also defeated. The tide temporarily gave Korea the advantage, and the Japanese army's Kurusima died, but when the tide changed in the evening, the Korean army withdrew. Yi Sun-shin, who was chased by Japan, retreated to Gogunsan Island (off Gunsan) in the northern tip of Jeolla-do in five days. It is recorded in the War Chu Nikki and the Seihan Roku of Japan. Koreans saying that Yi Sun-shin, who escaped 200km, won, is ridiculous.

@@hiroono1 Your argument is wrong. Opinions differ on the number of battles against Admiral Yi Sun-sin, but there are more than 10 battles that have been 100% confirmed. This can be seen even in Japanese history books. If your claim is true, why were Japanese generals afraid of Admiral Yi Sun-sin? The results prove it. In the end, the naval battle was lost, and the supply of the army was blocked, and Japan was defeated. It is well represented in "Chōsenseibatsu-ki" published in Japan in the late 19th century. The May 2002 issue of the Japanese historical magazine states that the Hakikjin operation used by Admiral Yi Sun-shin in the past was used in the naval battle of the Russo-Japanese War. In addition, the descendants of Japan's Wakizaka in the movie honor their ancestors on the day of defeat and eat only seaweed on that day. This is also a real interview. History may be a little exaggerated, but it doesn't lie.

@@YANOLJA1 There is no record that Japanese commanders feared Yi Sun-shin. The only mention of Yi Sun-shin in Japanese records is that he died. In Japanese records, the Korean military commander Kim Si-min, who fought two fierce battles at Jinju Castle and was feared as "Mokso", is far more famous. However, he died in the first battle. Alternatively, when the Japanese army invaded Dongli, Sung refused to beg for his life and chose to die. The Japanese applauded this and buried him respectfully. In this way, the Japanese army treats excellent commanders politely even if they are enemies. However, since there is no record of Yi Sun-shin, it is thought that the Japanese side did not recognize him as an excellent commander. Of course, Wakisaka did not write anything about Yi Sunshin, nor did Heihachiro Togo say anything about Yi Sunshin. It's all forged by Koreans.
@hiroono1
@hiroono1 Год назад
@@YANOLJA1 All books written about Yi Sun-shin in the 19th century are fiction. In annexing Korea, Japan needed to encourage Koreans. That's why Japan wrote the fiction that there used to be talented Koreans in the past. Japanese people can enjoy Godzilla movies knowing that monsters don't exist, but Koreans can't seem to do that.
@YANOLJA1
@YANOLJA1 Год назад
@@hiroono1All I took as an example are historical books published and recorded in Japan. Korea did not lie. I know that the monologue of Wakizaka you're talking about has no actual record. As a Korean, I don't know all Korean history books. It would be the same for you who are Japanese. There is content in the history book recorded by Japan that you don't know. And there is also an interview by a Japanese historian. Although it has nothing to do with this issue, Dokdo, which Japan calls Takeshima, is not marked as Japanese territory on the old map of Japan made in the 19th century. Japan claims sovereignty as an island in Cinema Prefecture, but even during the Japanese colonial period, Dokdo was not considered Japanese territory on Cinema Prefecture maps until the 19th century. Like this, you seem to know a lot of history, but don't deny what's written in a history book you don't know. All of them are Japanese history books that Korea cannot manipulate. As I said earlier, there may be some exaggeration, but history doesn't lie. I like Japan. However, unconditional love for the country is rather poison. In the war, Japan cut off people's noses and ears and took them as trophies. On the other hand, Korea buried the dead Japanese on an island called Jindo Island. As proof of that, the Korea-Japan event is held every year in Jindo, Korea.

incredibly this movie is fairly accurate. Admiral Yi Sun Shin did indeed defeat a Japanese fleet at the Battle of Myeongnyang in October of 1597. The Japanese fleet numbered 133 Warships and more than 200 logistic support and troop ships. Admiral Yi had at most 13 ships. (Accounts vary between 11 and 13 ships). Admiral Yi used the fast moving and often changing currents of the Myeongnyang strait to his advantage luring the Japanese there and then using the violent changing currents to his advantage. To win one of the most incredible naval victories in history. I should point out that the usual figure given for Japanese losses 31 ships comes from Admiral Yi's report and amazingly is almost certainly an underestimate of actual Japanese losses. The main distortion in the movie is, that in order to increase dramatic tension, the movie has a lot of ship boarding and fighting on deck. This only happened once during the battle and was both brief and not on Admiral Yi's flag ship. The battle was overall a lot more one sided than seen in this film. Korean total casualties numbered over all less than 100 whereas Japanese casualties numbered in dead alone well over 2,000. Because of the violent currents if you fell over board, or your ship sank, despite the fact the shore wasn't too far off you drowned. Admiral Yi is not well known in the West but he is for very good reason Korea's National Hero.

Yeah, And one more thing, the history of the Joseon Dynasty says the people on that hill were real. (Of course the scenes of self-destruction and snipers are fiction lol) Admiral Yi had a victory over 20 before this battle, but was relegated after being suspected of the king just before. (Because the kings usually don't like the general to get too much public sentiment from the people) → And then another deputy Admiral took over the army → he was immediately defeated → hundreds of ships sunk, and only 13 ships left.. Of course, the people admired and believed in Admiral Yi, the guardian deity of this region, but this time the number was too different from the enemies, so they were crying sadly on the hill. But in the afternoon, they cried and cheered, seeing that only the Japanese ships sank and the ships of Joseon were all fine. Maybe it felt like risking life to watch the World Cup.

The official record from Yi Admiral's diary. Even Korea have drama for Yi Sun Shin... They over estimated damage for Yi Admiral's navy armies. The reason is, that is more realistic....

To understand this film, you need to know the circumstances at the time. Japan was divided into dozens of countries over the past 100 years, and after a civil war, it was unified by a figure named Hideyoshi Toyotomi. But Hideyoshi was an ambitious man. He was not satisfied with just dominating Japan. So he plans to get his hands on China and India. The first stage of the conquest war was the invasion of Joseon. The plan was to capture Joseon and attack China from there. When Japan invaded, Joseon collapsed. Only 20 days after the Japanese invasion, the capital fell, and the king of Joseon fled to the Chinese border. Japan was on the verge of destroying Joseon. However, there was also a problem with the Japanese military. It was that Joseon had many mountains and rough terrain, making it difficult to carry supplies on the ground. So Japan plans to supply through the sea. And it was Admiral Yi Sun-shin of Joseon that blocked Japan's maritime supply routes. Yi Sun-sin is won without a single defeat against Navy, and a maritime supply route in Japan became completely blocked. For your information, before Admiral Yi Sun-sin became Admiral, Joseon's navy was a mess that could not be called the Navy. Yi Sun-shin predicted in advance that there would be an invasion by Japan and built and trained a fleet only with his own power without the support of the state. Japan, which lost its maritime supply route, eventually gave up its occupied land and was forced to retreat. However, the king of Joseon thought that Yi Sun-sin, who was praised by the people, might cause rebellion. Therefore, the king of Joseon arrested Yi Sun-sin and ordered an incompetent general Won Gyun who hated Yi Sun-sin to command the navy. Yi Sun-sin was taken before the king and tortured. Yi Sun-shin's body was broken by torture. That's why Yi Sun-shin vomits blood in the movie. The king of Joseon intended to torture Yi Sun-sin to death. However, the incompetent general Won Gyun, who was leading the Joseon navy on behalf of Yi Sun-sin, lost the entire fleet of the Joseon navy in a single battle. Numerous competent officers and soldiers were killed under incompetent commander Won Gyun. And There are only 12 ships left. The king appointed Yi Sun-sin again as admiral of the Navy, who had been tortured. Yi Sun-shin had to stop more than 300 Japanese ships with 12 ships at a time when his body was damaged by torture. Yi Sun-sin bravely fought the Japanese Navy in the narrow sea route, attracting more than 30 Japanese ship sank. More than 100 Japanese ships were also destroyed. This movie contains the very historical story.

On October 3, 1598, the Battle of Suncheon, the Ming and Korean forces launched an all-out attack, including Yi Sun-shin, from both sides of the water and land, but the Japanese forces repelled them, and the Korean forces suffered many casualties. In the Joseon Dynasty Jitsuroku, the Ming and Korean forces were defeated in all attacks in the Battle of the Three Roads (the Second Battle of Ulsanseong, the Battle of Sacheon, and the Battle of Suncheon), and were divided into three roads. Korean cannons have been seized and preserved by Japan, but it is known that they are made of bronze and cannot fire continuously, and their accuracy is low. Japan had guns and was highly mobile, so it was overwhelmingly superior on land. Also, after the Battle of Hansando, the Japanese army devoted itself to the defense of Busan and built a battery on the cape, so the Korean army could not win at all. It should be noted that the current had a great influence on the battle situation in naval battles. Yi Sun-shin, who was well aware of the Korean tide, started the battle as the tide moved upstream, but fled when the tide changed.

@@hiroono1 Scholars have different opinions on the population of the Joseon Dynasty, but according to the National History Compilation Committee, it is estimated to be approximately 7.5 million to 10.12 million in the early Joseon Dynasty. And the reason why the Japanese army marched so fast was because 1) each army competed for the purpose of capturing the king, not because they were occupying a province. 2) At that time, Joseon and the world had never experienced an all-out war of that magnitude, and, except for a few large local wars, had been in a state of peace for 500 years. In particular, there was no invasion from the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The fact that the Korean people helped the Japanese military is a view that reflects a specific perspective, and the very existence of the “volunteer army,” the voluntary militia mentioned above, disproves the violence of the Japanese military.

The background of this Seven Years' War is that the carelessness and arrogance of Joseon (Korea), which enjoyed only peace and culture for 200 years, treated Yamato (Japan) as a barbaric pirate group rather than a country. However, Yamato had a high level of tactics through clan battles for 100 years, and the 170,000 troops of Toyotomi, who unified the whole country, armed with Portuguese matchlocks and attacked Joseon. In fact, the Korean ships' woods were harder because their main strategy was to shoot artillery and the Japanese's strategy was to approach quickly and engage in close combat. Therefore, the shape of the ship is also different. The bottom of Korean ships is flat to allow for rotation in place, whereas Japanese ships are pointed for speed. And recently, it was reported that a movie based on the Battle of Hansando (1592) would be released.. Yi SunSin's actor changed from Choi Min-sik to Park Hae-il, main actor of 'War of the Arrows'. Yi Sun-shin's turtle ship was made by Na Dae-yong and is it a turtle that comes out of the water?Or a ship to defend and attack in the appearance of a turtle? A ship that was upgraded by remodeling the Panokseon, which was used by the Joseon Navy at that time, was a total of three-story turtle ship, and at that time, ships of the Joseon Navy built wooden boats without using iron nails. The more salty the seawater is absorbed, the harder the ship becomes due to warping or shock, making it a completely different drying technology from the Japanese Navy's wooden ships made of streamlined iron nails.In addition, the sword katana used by the Japanese military and the Joseon sword seem similar, but the characteristics are different, and the cross-section cutting surface angle is also a different curved view.However, it is true that Joseon soldiers have changed similarly to Japan. The reason is that Japanese long swords and daggers, which have to be similar in length to kill, were used as bows as their main weapon, so the daggers were smaller in size, which was good to fight against Japanese soldiers after the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1948~9?And the sword was much longer until the Goryeo Dynasty before Joseon and the Goguryeo Dynasty in Silla.Since the Confucian culture was transferred from China to Joseon, the weapon system has developed faster bows than swords, and during the Imjin War, Joseon swords were so easily measured against Japanese swords.Therefore, foreigners often misunderstand the relationship between Korean swords and Japanese katana.If you are more curious about Korea's history, search anytime. There are various kinds of Korean traditional weapons and armor. Armor is also divided into the early and late Joseon or mid-Joseon periods. There are scaly armor and lightweight armor. Light armor is similar to today's common bulletproof clothing. Although pins such as buttons are embedded on the outside, ironclad pieces are embedded in the clothes, protecting the body and putting a lot of effort into weight and weight movements. Other pitches and Joseon armor almost disappeared, or many of them were captured at the time of the Japanese invasion. It is said that there are many relics in places such as Japan's representative antique collection Ogura Collection.They were seized during the war.It is known that there are many things that Japan stole during the Pacific War. Yi Sun-sin's biography, his life, and relics have become easier to search and find due to the development of the Internet. Use the search and if you want to know more about Korea, welcome Lee Soon-shin's visit to his hometown. In his local hometown, the turtle ships are restored to view. I made it after thoroughly examining it, but there is a slight mistake, so please understand that it is not as easy as restoring historical relics. What is the color of the dinosaur that disappeared? Or as much as checking if it's scales or skin. It was restored on a certain basis due to the development of science.

In fact, the story of Admiral Yi Sun-shin is a true story At that time, Japan was an island country, so it was an era of piracy So when you're fighting, there's a way of getting on and fighting on another ship with fast mobility, so the ship is thin and long At that time, Japanese people were holding guns because of Western culture, and the technology was not in Korea But Korea was a mountainous country, so it had many castles So he had a technique called cannon, and if you look at it, you can see that it's represented in the movie The story of sinking 133 ships with 13 ships is exaggerated in other countries, but it is true If you come to Korea, you can see that the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-shin is standing and inscribed on the currency

One major inaccuracy with the is that Yi Soon Shin is supposed to die. He gets shot and dies, but before he does. He tells his son for his death not be made public. Thus his son hid his father's body and put on his armor. For the rest of the battle he pretended to be his dad and lead the allied Joseon forces to victory. Yi Soon Shin's death was only made public after the battle ended. Another major inaccuracy was all of the hand to hand combat. That never happened during this battle. Only on land battles.

Due to its geographical characteristics as an island nation, Japan developed maritime transportation and trade, which led to the advancement of ships capable of navigating through narrow and fast routes. In contrast, Korea built ships that were more durable and larger than those of Japan, making them more resistant to impact during collisions. Influenced by Portuguese traders, Japan introduced the use of firearms. The map shows that Japan acted as a barrier, being the first in Asia to be influenced by foreign trade. As a result, Japanese ships were not equipped with cannons, allowing just 13 Korean ships to defeat a fleet of 333 Japanese ships.

This movie makes me sad every time I see this movie. And yes this is historical fact that even Japanese do not object. Of course this is a movie there are some dramatic factors. However, around 95% are real. FYI in Korea we don’t call him just a hero. We call him sacred hero, only him. Reason? I am not sure but I assume that it is because -as admiral said at the end of the movie ‘god’s grace’- it was too miraculous to be a man’s work. Moreover, before this battle, his rank was removed and exiled after torture because of other parties in the government and the king was jealous of him and feared his fame from the people. However, he fought for the king and most of all for the country after the king(SunJo) reinstated him as an admiral. Therefore he became the icon of ‘Chung(충: loyalty)’ I guess this is the reason why we call him so.

The ships got destroyed but not to the point of it being not navigable. It's like what happen with one of the world most famous naval battles and most famous admirals, as he is also my favorite admiral in history. Admiral Horatio Nelson. Who showed that the British navy is truly the best in the world. As he fought in a battle against and alliance of France and Spain called the battle of trafalgar. Nelson also didn't have wave or current on his side, he used only strategy. Nelson had 27 ships of the line and 6 other ships France and Spain had 38 ships of the line and 7 other ships. Spain and france lost half of their ships to being captured by the british, while only 3 ship of the line got completly destroyed. Then also over 4000 spanish/french men died and 8000 got captured. But Admiral Nelson won the battle with losing no ships at all, only losing over 400 men and as he himself died. Truly amazing. We have to remember this is small number yes, but these ships in like 1800th century called ship of the line are giant ships with 3 layers of cannons with like 50 on every side of the ship and could be more as there could be even bigger ones.

12:38 the Korean ships are made of tougher wood and better built compared to the Japanese ships which are mainly made of lighter wood and just made for speed. It's why the Korean shops can endure ramming Japanese ships in this battle.

Do not forge. Look at old buildings in Korea and Japan. In Korea, even the second floor is hard to find, but Japan has many high-rise buildings. Japanese woodworking technology was superior to that of South Korea. Also, the Korean ships did not have iron nails to fix the joints, but the Japanese ships did. Korean ships are fragile, so the Koreans preferred to fight at long range.

@@hiroono1 Japan's main ship was the sekibune. Antaekseon was introduced shortly after its introduction during the Japanese invasion, and the generals boarded it. If you use wooden nails, seawater is salty, but it has the advantage of not being rusted. At that time, Joseon had iron nails. The performance difference between Panokseon and Sekibune is overwhelmingly different.

@@user-nq9ky8nj6o When iron nails are hammered into wood, the rusting of the nails is slowed down. Columbus would never have discovered the Americas, and Magellan would not be able to circumnavigate the globe, if iron nail would rust and become useless in a few years. Wooden nails are brittle and cannot be expected to have sufficient joint strength. That's why Japan doesn't use wooden nails even in wooden buildings. In Japanese woodworking technology, the only things other than iron that are used are woodwork and wedges using navels. Koreans did not know the technology, so they could not build higher than two stories.

Myeongnyang is located in Gunnae-myeon, Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do. After the Joseon naval forces were greatly defeated at Chilcheonryang during the Jeongyujaeran and Won-gyun was killed, Yi Sun-sin, who was appointed as the commander of the Samdo naval forces again, defeated the Japanese at Eoranpo in August 1597 and prepared for a full-scale battle with the Japanese forces. The Chosun Naval Forces, which moved their headquarters to Usuyeong in Gogun-myeon, Jindo-gun, were prepared for an attack by the Japanese due to a lack of front lines and troops. When the Japanese attacked with 133 ships, the Joseon naval forces with only 12 ships struck a straight line in the narrow waterway of Uldolmok and blocked the enemy's passage. As the direction of the tide changed and the camps began to become entangled, the Joseon army launched an all-out attack by cutting the head of the enemy commander Gurushima (來島通總) to increase morale. Embarrassed by this, the Japanese forces lost about 30 ships and retreated. S.Korea 🇰🇷 Uldolmok (Myeongnyang) is a strait between Hwawon Peninsula and Jindo, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do.
