@@jamesamala7371 this arc was full of taako caring about his friends. if it wasn't called the suffering game, it'd be called "proof taako has a heart: Part 3"
This was the first scene in the show that had me bawling. Of course, it's smattered with jokes as always, but I couldn't help but cry when I knew what was happening. After listening to his reaction to the chalice in the previous arc, and knowing how important this was to him, and just listening to how sincere he was to Taako and Merle to continue on his revenge for him broke me. Such a touching and sad scene.
Hi, can I just say that I love the last part of this? Like, the whole thing is wonderful, but that end, where Griffin says "Magnus' quest for vengeance ends," and then Clint cuts in with "And ours begins!" That was a really funny line. But seeing Merle and Taako look at each other, with that steely glint of determination... It just reminds me that, sure the Tres Horny Boys joke a lot and just plain mess around, but they're family. They've seen each other at their best and their worst, and they hurt when one of their family is hurt. So seeing that look of determination in Taako and Merle's faces, as Magnus forgot about his quest for vengeance--I have no doubt in my mind that after the Story and Song Arc ended, any time not dedicated to Taako's school or Merle's adventure camp were spent in this epic quest of hunting down Mad Governor Kalen. Right up to Merle holding him in place with some powerful binding spell, as Taako glares down at him, and mutters, "This is for Julia...and Magnus. Abraca-Fuck You, asshole!"
Heres the thing Spoiler warning After magnus turns into a mannequin, and then returns to his body, griffin specified that the memories of the governor are there since the blood was taken from before magnus went to wonderland, this also undid the aging specifically... not sure about the max hp reduction he got though...
@@fatedunion1761 Actually, the inverse is true--Griffin stated that the body that was made in the tube was made with blood from pre-Wonderland Magnus, so physical losses such as his finger or his age did not carry over. However, soul losses, such as his memory of Mad Governor Kaylen, remained, because his soul is still there. A good reflection of this would be Barry Bluejeans, who every time he died had to be remade in a tube just like Magnus, and when he inhabited that body, he had no memory of his past. He was still Barry, he was still inhabiting a body that technically existed before the Voidfish's memory wipe, since the first body was made from his blood, from a body that died before the memory wipe could fully affect him. And yet he still forgot everything each incarnation. Because memories are tied to the soul. It's likely that the only time Magnus will ever remember Mad Governor Kaylen again will be the day that he passes away, and by then Taako and Merle would've hopefully hunted him down and brought him to his horrible end, meaning he can truly, truly rest in peace when he's brought to his home in the Astral Sea.
Can we just appreciate that, without any hesitation, Merle and Taako take on a revenge quest to kill and a man that they don't know, for a woman they've never got to meet, all for their friend? Like, god! One of the best parts of Suffering Game is that it really shows how close the THBs have become over the course of the series, they still bicker and often don't agree on things, but they're truly there for each other, thru thick and thin, like not just this scene, but a scene later when Magnes offers to take the penalty so Taako won't have to give up his beauty, and of course 'Arms Outstreched'. Like, god it's just so good!
This is amazing!! Apart from how much I love Magnus and his story and how emotional this scene is, I also just wanna say, I really love Taako in this scene. He's often portrayed as selfish or vain, but his actions here just seem so sincere, like, he's been with these guys longer than he can remember (literary), he cares about them, they all have a pretty strong friendship by this point, even if the past is yet to be remembered, and it just really shows here, y'know? You did a spectacular job on emphasizing that, with how Taako gently puts a hand on Magnus' shoulder, or how determined him and Merle look at the end, or with the flashback that shows that they really did uphold their promise to Mag, and it's just really, really great.
4 years after lol, but you're so right. A lot of people think that Taako doesn't care. But he cares so much about the people close to him. He'd let worlds burn if it meant the people he loved were safe.
So good. So good so good so goooood. Love the interpretations of all their looks. Love the interpretations of their actions. Love all the different angles. Love the scene you chose and how you chose to just show a lot of it in the wonderland room. Such a nice succinct end and beginning of the Kalen/Calen revenge quest. And I totally missed that comment by Merle about hating the Liches my first listen so that was great to catch as well! Thank you for putting the time that you did into this.
Fcuk me dude this animatic so fucking great this is so lovely. I love your expressions and your designs for Tres Boys! I really like that the Wonderland Liches have no pupils I think that was a sick-looking detail! Also the shot zooming out from Julias face was really nicely done and this is very cool! I could gush forever but when it comes down just!! This is awesome!!!
my ONLY complaint with taz is that we never got to see this come to fruition. it is the only plot point tht wasn’t neatly wrapped up at the end. Governor Kalen is still out there and that thought upsets me daily. (but this animatic is absolutely fantastic!! i love the expressions and designs especially omg everything is so cute but also really emotional and it’s so good)
It would be sooooo fucked up if Griffin split up the party during an adventure, and Magnus (who's separated from Taako and Merle) meets Governor Kaylan and becomes friends with him.
Great animation. I really don't know how to feel about some things in TAZ though. The comedy is great, but the dramatic moments could often stand on their own. I can totally see the Balance tale being either totally comedic or more gravelly drama, and somehow as a podcast it works with both going on, but a part of me wants to see the vanilla story without the background rolls and comedic interjections. The story and characters, hnng. So yeah, great animation, you brought this to the forefront of my mind
Great animation! Would like to see more. A thought about this plot point: it would've made more sense and been way more interesting if Magnus's quest for vengeance didn't end after forgetting. On the contrary, he would be on a never ending quest for vengeance because he would be plagued with a great desire for revenge that he would never be able to satisfy. He would always be searching for the person responsible for his wife's death, but would never even able to figure out who it was.
XManis1 They answered this question on The The Adventure Zone Zone released on the 30th of March and basically: Magnus has still forgotten but his body is repaired! Any memories forgotten in Wonderland stayed forgotten.
I've never watched The Adventure Zone and I'm not quite sure how I got here, but the emotions you were able to express with these characters made me actually care about them. Wonderful job
There's so much to love here. Your flashback to Magnus weeping in the ruins of Raven's Roost KILLED ME. You blended the flashbacks, imaginary scenarios and what was actually happening so well. Taako's physical body language with Magnus when they talk. This is awesome.
I like to imagine, some years after magnus’s death, a still pretty young tasko and merle are out together once again, somehwere in the worl, in some bar, when they walk up to an old old man, who they tap gently on the shoulder. As he turns and says “what?” Merle holds the Xtreme teen bible, taako points the umbra staff, and say “for julia” as the most powerful spells they know pierce through him and leave him dead where he stood, because they would never forget Magnus
RU-vid reccommendations brought this to me, I had no idea what TAZ or MBMBAM was, but I clicked, and now I've listened to the whole thing and i'm a huge fan. I mean this was spoilers but I'm really glad I didn't care.
And I’m so writing a fanfic about Merle and Taako hunting down Governor Caelan after Story and Song. Like I need to write this and yes I’m gonna base it on the little flash forward you did.
I would NOT have been able to handle the long-term implications of Magnus forgetting his wife. I'm so glad that the adventure never went to that point. That flash forward with them killing Kalen is so good, I'm glad you put that in there!
