CLIP DESCRIPTION:
As Berthold (Eric Idle) runs to Austria to fetch a bottle of wine, the Sultan (Peter Jeffrey) entertains the Baron (John Neville) with his latest opera, The Torturer's Apprentice.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director Terry Gilliam adroitly applies his Monty Python sensibilities upon the "career" of famed German prevaricator Baron von Munchausen. Played herein by John Neville, the baron is seen quelling a war that he himself started, flying into the stratosphere on the back of a cannonball, ballooning to the moon, exploring the innards of a volcano, being swallowed by a whale....In short, all of Munchausen's fabulous lies are here presented as "truth," played out in full view of nonplussed witnesses Eric Idle, Charles McKeown, Jack Purvis, and Sarah Polley. Fringe benefits include several loving medium shots of jaybird-naked Uma Thurman as Boticelli's Venus and an extended unbilled cameo by Robin Williams -- that is, by the head of Robin Williams -- as the King of the Moon. Filmed under considerable duress on a budget eventually exceeding 45 million dollars, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen never quite caught on with moviegoers, though it has enjoyed a lucrative afterlife on videocassette.

Love this movie. I love how the Baron says "no thank you," when the Sultan offers to play the Torturer's Apprentice. Just as kind and cheerful as if someone had asked if he wanted a cup of tea. I love so many details about this movie, like the fact that there's an obese member of the Sultan's harem lying in a hammock over the Baron's head as he hands Berthold the letter to the empress. I love the people camped out under the head of the decapitated horse statue and the face pressed in the sand on the moon. It's a rare comedy about war, death, and the King of the Moon riding on a three-headed robotic parakeet and throwing giant asparagus spears at Eric Idle.

This is such an underrated film. It’s one of my favorites from my childhood. It’s fun, it’s unique, visually beautiful, comical, sometimes SCARY, sometimes very sweet, very good special effects, amazing acting, an epic soundtrack, the list goes on! How could this get such low ratings is beyond me.

This movie is so good it makes me weep. It’s the greatest movie of all time. I saw this when I was a boy and now I share it with my boys in 2023. Believe it or not this is Gilliams masterpiece. I wonder if Gilliam realizes he made a masterpiece I’m sure he does. Let me tell you as a boy in 1989 this movies was sublime. All that I can say is what Terry Gilliam set out to achieve with an audience upon this movies release he absolutely achieved with me.

IT TOOK ME 18 YEARS TO REMEMBER THE NAME OF THIS MOVIE!! For years I only remembered that there was a character who ran so fast that he needed a ball and chain on either leg to stand still. The description is too specific to get anything good out of Google, so for years it's been sitting on a back burner somewhere in my mind. Five minutes ago the name "Munchausen" rang a bell. My burden has been lifted. The itch has been scratched. I am free. HIS NAME IS BERTHOLD AND I KNOW THE NAME OF THE MOVIE AT LAST

All I could vaguely remember was the buildup to Bertholds running, and now I've finally found it!
