KISUMU CITY
Kisumu, City, Capital of Nyanza province, Kenya, lying on the northeastern shore of Lake Victoria. It is the commercial, industrial, and transportation center of western Kenya, serving a hinterland populated by almost four million people. Kisumu is an important link in the trade route between Lake Victoria and Mombasa because of its water and rail connections. It is also the chief terminus for the agricultural produce of Nyanza and Western provinces. Industries are centered on processing agricultural products, brewing, and textile manufacturing. Kisumu is one of Kenya’s largest cities. Asians once constituted more than one-fourth of the population, but that segment declined after independence in 1963.
Kisumu city is believed to be one of the oldest settlements in Kenya. Historical records indicate that Kisumu has been dominated by diverse communities at different times long before Europeans arrived. The people from the Nandi, Kalenjin, Kisii, Maasai, Luo and Luhya communities converged at the tip of Lake Victoria and called the place "sumo" which literally means a place of barter trade. Each community called it different names.
KERICHO TOWN
Kericho is the biggest town in Kericho County located in the highlands west of the Kenyan Rift Valley. Standing on the edge of the Mau Forest, Kericho has a warm and temperate climate making it an ideal location for agriculture and in particular, the large-scale cultivation of tea.
The town is strategically located along Kenya's western tourism circuit with access to Lake Victoria, the Maasai Mara National Reserve and Ruma National Park.
One theory has it that it was home to the region's first hospital, built by the colonial British at the start of the 20th century. This is in reference to kerichek, the word for medicine in the Kipsigis language. Other theories have it that the town was named for a local medicine man called Kipkerich or after a Maasai chief, Ole Kericho who was killed in the 18th Century by the Abagusii.
The settlement at Kericho was founded in 1902 by British settlers.
Kericho hosts Africa's largest Sikh Gurudwara and the second largest Catholic cathedral in Kenya. Gurdwara Sahib is built on the site of the home and workshop of Kericho Wagon Works founder Sant Baba Puran Singh Ji of Kericho. A site is currently a place of worship for the Sikh community and a museum gazetted by the Government of Kenya as a place of spiritual significance.
It is dedicated to the memory of Sant Baba Puran Singh Ji, founder of the international charitable organization, Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha which promotes the spirit and practice of selfless service ("nishkam sewa") in the name of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh faith.
Chandarana Records a pioneer of Benga music and the Kenyan music recording industry is based in Kericho town.
Kericho is home to Olympic-winning long-distance athletes and hosts Zoo Kericho F.C. a football club competing in the Kenyan Premier League and Kericho R.F.C. competing in the Nationwide League. Other notable places of interest include Chagaik Arboretum, Chelimo Arboretum, Tagabi Arboretum, Uhuru Garden, and the vast scenic tea estates with high ground viewpoints.

From your videos of western and Nyanza these areas have conducive climate to grow any cash crop enmass. They have the land, the many water sources almost 8 rivers feed Lake victoria , flood waters that cause havoc that can be tapped by building dykes and storing that water in massive dams for irrigation. The focus of our food production seems limited to Central and rift yet western and Nyanza have greater potential for growing food crops. i find it so scandalous that this is the case. Western and Nyanza have been so neglected in terms of making them major hubs of food production yet we import Maize, Sugar, Rice, wheat that can be grown in these areas to meet our deficite in these food crops and even produce surplus for export. Now imagine if these vast farms growing sugar and rice could be doubled cropped on a rotational basis with lets say one season they grow the traditional sugar and rice and then the nex season they grow sunflower, soya bean, sorghum, millet on a rotational basis what this does is we can meet our animal feeds demands instead of importing making the feeds cheaper as a result more small scale farmers are able to keep chickens, dairy, pigs , fish improving on food security plus making these protein items cheaper. Also these crops add value to the soil they are nitrogen fixing thus the traditional crops like sugar and rice will produce more per acre and using less inputs like fertilizers since the soils are already healthy.

How people prefer to go to Europe and Arabian counties, work 3-4 jobs with meager salaries and leave this country is beyond me. Just goes to show how we are still enslaved mentality. I've talked to expatriates here and they all cry at the thought of leaving this county. Fix your mind and you'll see the beauty here is unimaginable. Just google the pictures of the Eifel Tower if you really want to see it but the diversity and touring spots are endless here. FIX YOUR MINDS AND STAY!!!!...That fast life in the west is not as advertised. The simplicity of the village with zero taxes is what life is.

That's because the government decided to only support farmers from Central & Rift valley. They import sugar in Kenya. The sugar in Nyanza & Western is being exported to Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan and Tanzania instead. Tribalism in government is the reason Kenya has food shortage issues.
