Epic Paco,Simmon, Kells and of course our greek goddess of metal Vicky, great song, awesom band, nice video and kicker ass album. Vicky never cut your beatiful long hair plz yeahh!!!
They seem happy, Alissa seems happy in Arch Enemy too, Michael and the guys seem happy too, I even saw him jumping. Of course they are different, Alissa from Angela and Vicky from Alissa, but why not give this a chance? Sounds great to me! \m/
I love you vicky and the band to and please keep up dated with the live stuff. And you guy,s or like family to me . And keep playing it hard . And i love five .
Miss you Alissa, love you in Arch Enemy, but I miss your clean vocals ;( Vicky is a great singer,in studio,in live, she need improve the clean vocals, and she lost her breath easily...Hope she improve with the time
I hate to still talk about Alissa but I need to say this: I love the Agonist even more with Vicky! Just look at the beginning of this video, Vicky seems to fit more in The Agonist than Alissa ever did, no disrespect for Alissa of course, I still love her by her own means, but The Agonist feels now like a group of musicians instead of "Alissa and her background musicians"
SINCERAMENTE AMO TUS COMPOSICIONES.
Djordje Gusman Well it's a good thing that people like her vocals. I like her vocals too, but to me they sound emotionless. Whereas Alissa's are really "alive". This probably doesn't make sense but whatever xD
Vicky is the shit and The Agonist is now a kick ass band. It's not just that the vocals are better. She has obviously inspired the band members as well to start writing some bad ass material. They sound like a new band.
One year later, funny how we resist change. I like this a lot. Vicky kicks ass! She wrote the lyrics for this when she first joined the band as a sort of test. They handed her the music and this is what she came up with. Boom.
Marcelo Bassalo I looked them up and you're right, they're great! I love their vocal harmonies in that song. Really dark and eerie. Thanks for posting this comment I would've never know about this band.
Look I've been an Agonist fan since the beginning. However, IMHO Vicky is better than Alissa. In fact, as a whole the band has never been better than with these last two albums. This song is personal favorite!!
When i heard about Alyssa departure, i thought it was dead for the band. I've never been a die-hard fan... The fact is Vicky brought a sort of oxygen to the band and i'm very impressed by the result. Each member seems to have more fun and seems to work different than before. The Agonist with Alyssa was totally transparent to me..... I like Panophobia. And i'm also impressed by this frontwoman. I watched "liar liar" from Kamelot and she can sing very good!!!!
The most underrated band musically!! Great guitar lines, SOLID bass playing without being boring, and the drummer sounds like hes on the verge of coming apart any moment, and yet never does... Fucking awesome! And Vicky has her own sound. All the comparisons to Alissa are stupid. Alissa has her sound Vickies is different. Better? Worse? nope. Just different. If you cant get that, then maybe Bon Jovi is more your style. Everything sounds the same never changing, never growing.
Vicky is a better singer but Alissa is a fucking artist. Nothing against either of them but Alissa's lyrics and composition were brilliant and she would sing flat as a stylistic choice just adding to her songs artistry. Vicky came in with powerful vocals like this and just made the band her own though she's definitely not just taking over for Alissa she made The Agonist her band.
Vicky is a much better singer with a bit higher range than Alissa, but Alissa is a much better screamer/growler than Vicky & by far a better frontwoman. Vicky is definitely improving, but Alissa just has a natural charisma to her that shows on stage. That being said, Arch Enemy isn't exactly using Alissa to her full potential.
I think she is far better for the agonist than Alyssa was. Alyssa fits with arch enemys sound better. She may have left the band on bad terms but its seems to have worked out great for both bands
I had stopped following the band after Alissa left, and now I realize this was pretty silly, I came back because of this particular video. This song was really awesome
the best song for the agonist .. thanks for this songs . i had enough to watching other videos everytime and get bored . but for this video i never felt bored .
After listening to the Jasta Podcast and hearing the shady shit you (the band) pulled on your former singer, not.a.dime. from me. I won't support you, or put any money towards any future endeavors. Lost a fan.
Jake Adams I work at Southport in new Orleans and had the liberty to chat with the drummer for a bit and I can't disclose a lot of what was talked about, but the old singer just kind of left them hanging out to dry and they mesh so much better with the new singer so just know that they did what needed to further their careers brother
Epictemptation7 So I did some research and the Live in Montreal vid is the highest quality live video of this song out there right now (actually really good quality, somebody had a good camera or some shit). Anyway, if you listen closely during the chorus, there's a backing vocalist on her clean vocals, especially on the high notes. It's hard to hear, but there's a definite upper harmony being sung by someone (and it's not in the crowd). This means they have another girl backstage singing during those parts to give it the harmony effect that you hear on the record. This is what happens when you overproduce something. It sounds great on the record, but it will never sound even close to that live unless you hire additional musicians to play/sing in the background so you can really get that studio sound. It's something I've always had a problem with. I've seen single guitar bands do this with a second guitarist, I've seen bands that don't have a "keyboardist" have a "keyboardist" backstage for ambient effect (just give the poor bastard credit for his work dammit), and now I've seen an example of a band doing this with a vocalist. Whatever happened to trying to capture the essence of the live performance in a record? I remember that's what drew me to metal bands when I was like 13. Their records made me feel like I was AT the fucking show. The first time I popped in Master Of Puppets and "Battery" came on, I felt like I was THERE, in the crowd, at a sold out show, and I was fucking hooked. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Sepultura, Pantera, Deicide, Death, and even bands as recently as Lamb Of God, Goatwhore, and Hatebreed all made records that felt like you were there at a live show. I know you can't just go into a studio and record a whole band playing a song in one take. It doesn't work like that. But the whole idea is to capture the essence and energy of the band on tape (or in this age, on the hard disk), and have that come through in the finished product. I remember when I was in school for audio engineering hearing stories about producers driving musicians to the breaking point. Making a drummer do excessive amounts of takes so he'd get fucking mad and just beat the fuck out of the drums, or pushing vocalists so hard that the desperation and adrenaline of the situation comes through in their vocals (the recording of Iron Maiden's "Number Of The Beast" is a great example of this). Shit like that. This "fix it in post" style of recording is just removing the soul from the recording process, and it needs to go. I know studio hours are expensive. I know you want to put out the best record you possibly can, but sometimes those little flaws are what make some of the greatest records of all time so great.
Epic Beard Gamer dude, the studio chorus has one or two voices in the back too. I've heard the vid that you say and you're right there is a recording of Vicky's own voice backing her live's but if you have a good ear, you can easily hear the same thing in this vid. The only thing I didn't like in that live vid was that high growl in the middle of the song that wasn't high enough as in here 'cuz all the cleans were perfect, she has a great ear and vocals. Excuse me if there's a grammar mistake, I'm a colombian guy and I'm still learning haha.
IW VIII Both are great singers, they have a different style, but both are goddess. Actually I prefer Vicky with T.A. and Alissa with A.E. they fit perfect, but I must say that the work that Alissa did with these guys was stunning, really good.
JuanPa Street I think you completely missed my point. I specifically said that they had an extra vocalist singing in the back to mimic her harmonies on the record. It can't be a recording of her own voice, unless everyone in the band is playing to a metronome, or it's a lip sync kind of deal. Trust me, you NEVER play the song the same way live that you do in the studio. Pre recording harmonies for live performance would be one of the dumbest ideas ANYONE could ever have. It's a problem of over producing a record. Yes, it sounds great on the record, but live, you either have a much flatter vocal sound, a different harmony being done by another member of the band, or you hire vocalists to stand backstage and sing the harmonies, which I personally feel is unethical. To me, it's no different than lip syncing. Why not have the backstage vocalist come out front and perform with the band? Cradle Of Filth did exactly this, with Sarah Jezebel Deva (I think that's how you spell it). All in all, my comment was less talking about the live performance, and more a gripe about overproduction in the studio, which leads to bullshit like this being necessary. Time alignment, sample replacement, amp sims, autotune, all of this bullshit, it's all making records WORSE, not better. "Fix it in the mix" is killing music, and it drives me up a wall that people actually accept this. Anyway, the point of this rant, was to clarify the point of my previous rant for those who can't fucking read. If you're going to offer a counterpoint, make sure you don't miss the original point altogether. It's like you read the first half of the first paragraph and that's it. In fact, I'm not sure why I bothered writing all this because I'm almost certain that you won't read all of this either. I understand your english isn't too good, but you're articulate enough to the point where you should have at least been able to comprehend what I had written if you were actually paying attention.
