I understand your point but you're saying BFMV/Trivium were before thrash, yet those two are actually metalcore (albeit more thrash influenced metalcore). If we need a timeline (of mainstream metal, not going into subgenres like black metal) it's: proto-metal (e.g. Black Sabbath) -> NWOBHM (Iron Maiden/Motorhead etc) -> thrash (Big 4) -> glam metal (Aerosmith/GnR/KISS) -> grunge (it counts, stuff like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains -> rap & nu metal (Korn, Limp Bizkit, RATM) -> NWOAHM/metalcore
Most metalcore is pretty shitty stuff, but ABR, AILD and this is fantastic! Epic riffs, up-tempo and variety! Not just breakdown after breakdown after fucking breakdown. Also the agonist does indeed have a bit of a melodic touch to it which shows alot of maturity and is just awesome \m/
I know what you mean. Once only imagined IMO was so much better than there latest album, it's still good but I don't think i'll listen to this album anywhere near as much as the first two.
why did you mention i resorted to offensive language? does this offend you?idc and why are we still typing about this....when this song was uploaded everyone was saying this is "not real metal".i basically said wtf is this real metal shit. its all metal why does it matter if it isnt and for the record when you say "JUST ABOUT" its not documented and kept on record by a lawyer your point was that most sub genres came from thrash, my point was all subs genres including thrash came from metal >.>
@Kalfitegrdan first off i see you replied to an old comment, got nothing better to do?, second: i wouldnt say songs like Anthem, and sadness will sear, kiristute gomen, igniton, down from the sky, etc. are generic. if they are then megadeths 80's albums are generic as hell(which is BS)
Sorry for my english. I mean that "metalcore" is in the style of these new wave of things. I don't like it because of a bunch of bands that is metalcore, like BMTH, Asking Alexa-something like that, and anyway I see them and I say: OMG, THIS CAN NOT BE A METAL STYLE!
i hope you didn't involve trivium with the trending part dude, and true metal? enough with this categorizing and sub genres metal is METAL. the scene is already broken as it is
They are real metal. All of them are so fucking good. But Metalcore is not. I don't consider metalcore a metal style. Just look for the bands that are metalcore. For a Headbanger like me, we just can't respect them. Anyway, this is just my opinion.
I think his point is that metal is a genre that encompasses loads of different styles. So saying "true" metal is the same as calling something a "true" horror film. It's like whatever your opinion of the hostel franchise is it's still as much a horror film as The Exorcist or even things like Bride of Frankenstein. Also I think the BFMV And Trivium before thrash thing was a typo lol.
I wonder why so many people who clearly don't like this genre of music still bother to watch/listen videos from Century Media. You don't see me lurking in the rap section of youtube saying it's crap music.
No hate, but I love Alissa more in the Agonist than in Arch Enemy. I like both but there are some differences that make me choose the Agonist over Arch Enemy. Her voice is harsher in the Agonist, she used to wear less flashy clothes ( but she's hot either way), music was more intelligent in my opinion. In both bands songs convey a message but in the Agonist she would spit the whole truth in your face, more complex words and also I can't remember most of the lyrics but I'm not mad about it. I feel like it was true Alissa before going very famous. There is something I can't explain about her from before that makes me really appreciate her old work.
You do realize that thrash metal originated during the early 80's and that metalcore didn't really come onto the metal scene until the 90's, right? The type of music that the Agonist are also originated in the 90's as well. We can all thank gothenburg metal (such as Dark Tranquility and At the Gates) and Carcass for melodic death metal.
Look, music is music. It's gonna evolve as time goes by whether you like it or not. So there's two things you can do. You can either learn to appreciate the newer stuff, or just stick to older forms of Metal. Might I suggest bands from Earache. Bands like Evile, Bonded By Blood, Municipal Waste are probably more to your liking compared to what you classify as ''Gay Metal'' nowadays. No one's forcing you to listen to the new stuff anyways. So quit whining, really
People need to understand that this is what metal has evolved into, before the so called "metalcore and deathcore" there was thrash before that there was bands like BMFV, Trivium etc. its just the way music evolves. People who say omg this isnt proper metal need to go back to the 80's and 90's and stay there. You are posers who think there is a real metal.....ITS ALL METAL , get with the times or GTFO! (just my opinion)
The music is a little annoying. There's no evolution in Metal. For me, what is metalcore, is a trash that needs to finish before it lays eggs. If this band were totaly Black Metal it would be A LOT better than it's is. Metalcore is not Metal. Metalcore is a gay style of this "new wave" of music that people are trying to put in the society. There are really new bands of Heavy/Folk/Black/Death/Trash and others of Metal that are way better than this little band, that is nothing but a "core".
FINALY, somebody said it. Dude, you are fucking 666% right. Every kind of Music evolves. We live in Metalcore-times and nothing can cahnge it. You may only like it or not. If it's not your kind of music, then keep listetning to Oldschool stuff :d
Their music is unique and every record that they have put out is more impressive than most american bands. Alyssa is the shiznit and no one (and i mean NO ONE) can do it like her!!!
as usual we find people arguing in the comments over what kind of metal it is which is weird to me, if i had to categorize this id put it in the BossaNova/Jazz fusion category. i mean you gotta admit its pretty boss :P
I just wonder, why everyone is hating this amazing voice, the voice is not common, so if you hear The Agonist for the first time, you may find it strange, but listen to few more songs and you will grow to it and love it :)
Both those albums just took the basic metalcore formula and iinserted basic and generic thrash riffs into it. Calling those thrash would be like calling The Agonist melo death. Also, I'm sure my head would hurt after sitting through two Trivium albums.
If Metalcore isn't a Metal genre, then what do you call bands like As I Lay Dying? You can not tell me with a clear head that they aren't a Metal band. Metalcore is by definition a blend of Extreme Metal and Hardcore Punk. Hardcore Punk was a huge influence on the entire Metal genre. Not all Metalcore is good, but bands like As I Lay Dying, In This Moment, Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium, The Agonist and etc. are good examples of the subgenre.
their exact genre would be Melodic Death Metal / Metalcore (with Gothic influences) you definitely can't say they don't have metalcore elements in their songs and why are you ashamed of that anyway? it's a good thing that they sound like this IMO
Alissa White Gluz FTw I will continue to support them forever :Bought 1 official Hoodie from them and all their songs every currently created ^^ as well as a few shirts (wished someone from michigan listened to them)Ps: am pretty sure Alissa could give a fuck about her genre and tired of people saying her genre rather than listen then classifying.
Sounds good, has a solid modern Melodic Death Metal sound mixed with a bit of Gothic/Symphonic Metal and a bit of Metalcore too, which is what The Agonist has always been about. As for all the elitist "metalheads" hating on this, go get a life or go listen to your "tr00" Metal bands
metal is evolving, there is no true metal.....metal is all the genres and subgenres that use heavy drumming, singing, powerful melodies and lyrics about society, religion, fantasy etc.
No, where I agree that music evolves and the truest form of Metal is in the 70's and 80's; I can't agree that all of it is Metal. I am a firm believer against Deathcore (it doesn't even have Metal in it's genre name for one) because it is just too much shock value and trying to be way to heavy. I don't claim to like every single "True Metal" band because not all of it is appealing to me, but I listen to a wide enough variety to know what is and isn't Metal, despite the subgenre.
with out the birth of hardcore, we would not have all the metal we have today (and with out early metal we wouldnot have hardcore). So its all hand in hand, X-core and X-metal. Just love or hate the music, not the label some1 can put on it.
They're metal...with breakdowns (which are derived from hardcore) as a focal point of the music with pretty much equates to metalcore. Plus, they use the singing/screming type of song structure which in commonplace in metalcore. Also, thrashy metal riffs are usually pretty common in metalcore as well. I stand by my original claim that this IS metalcore.
