Vertibirds are their only transports in Fo4 apart from Prydwyn itself.?? We see old pre war apc's lying around at military check points etc. You think they might of utilised , repaired them and put them back into service, but no? Also couple twin turret - cannon tanks lying around. Gunners seem to of acquisitioned. My question is, if devs took time to create for game. Why not allow for usage in game. Time and game engine constraints again??. Have to give cred and say though. Flying overhead in a vertibird, dodging random fire from the ground, spraying and annihilating enemies with the mounted mini gun is a fucking rush I've never experienced before in Fallout in any game. Its super cool , something they definitely got right in Fo4. Something they need to stick with at least as far as BoS missions and hopefully expand on with other cool add ons later maybe.
@twiztedmind209
@twiztedmind209 Год назад
@@colddaze6680 where are you really gonna drive a vehicle in Fo4? Most roads are too bumpy or are destroyed, the urban areas are filled with debris and vehicle remains, the highways are broken and often have huge gaps or holes, not to mention how they'd have to balance it. If you can drive a APC around, some enemies are gonna have to drive a APC around. What happens if you end up going late game and are forced to carry around a explosive weapon just for armored vehicles? What about fuel consumption? They showed with PA having a extremely limited duration with a single FC and the pieces being able to easily break that they're willing to sacrifice lore for gameplay reasons, so they'd find a way to make vehicles extremely limited in both fuel and durability, not to mention they'd have to design a map that makes both on-foot combat and vehicle combat feel nice, they'd also have to make AI pathfinding with said vehicles good, since vertibirds from FO4 will crash into buildings randomly, and they often over or under-shoot their target, leaving their gunmen without a way to fire at the targets on the ground. They'd have to keep a way for vehicles to not be extremely broken late game with thousands upon thousands of hit points whilst also making the fuel and durability enough to warrant their inclusion and map work. If vehicles are underpowered, the map being changed for cars to fit is gonna be a negative. If they do it well, positive and now cars would probably be a staple of the franchise. If it's overpowered, people are going to do nothing but complain about the addition of them. It would be a delicately done immense amount of work for something not a ton of people are asking for, and would completely alter the gameplay of the next game, for the better or worse if it was added.
@colddaze6680
@colddaze6680 Год назад
@@twiztedmind209 well shit.. you really thought this one out yeah. Maybe devs could take some of your advice. Btw ,well APC's and tanks were built to travel ,traverse rough terrain in warzones ... so there's that.

Fallout has always had that feeling that it's a how people in 1950-1970's view the future. You can see it by Television being small, black and white, car designs still being those form 1960-1980 but updated to look futuristic so it wouldn't be far off for the Army to also be using crafts that seem old to us but is actually normally used and advance for those in Fallout.
@QualityPen
@QualityPen Год назад
Sure, but in the case of the fighter jet, this is literally a post-WW2 era design, nothing futuristic about it. Bethesda seems to not understand this difference, between retro and retrofuture. It’s why half the “prewar” guns in Fallout 4 look like end-of-WW2 German homemade guns. For example, the Combat Rifle looks extremely crude and roughly welded together just like the Nazi German People’s Storm Rifle- which also happens to be in Fallout 4 as the “Radium Rifle.” The Combat Rifle design is partially based on the USSR’s PPSH sub machinegun, but somehow the “futuristic” Fallout gun looks like it’s 2 decades older and was made in a garage. To say nothing of the Assault Rifle, which looks like a WW1 machinegun. If 90% of actual WW2 guns (M1 Garand, Mosin, etc) look like they’re higher quality than the “retro-future” guns, something is wrong… I’m almost surprised the Minutemen weren’t using ACTUAL black powder muskets with some duct-tape and funky looking “futuristic” stocks. 😂 To be retro-future, there must actually be something futuristic in the design…
@MediumRareOpinions

@@QualityPen For guns I think they over exaggerated the gap between firearms and energy weapons. It seems like they wanted to emphasise Directed Energy Weapons being modern and Fireams being obsolete and old *but* they took it way too far and the firearms are far too old fashioned.
@colddaze6680
@colddaze6680 Год назад
@@QualityPen true enough , Fallout 4 took a serious back step with ballistic weapons.. Theres a whole vid breaking it down how much of a cluster fuck Fo4 ballistic arsenal is. Apart from the mini gun. Well he says real mini guns should not have to ' spin up" before they fire. But I was thinking its a unique touch to Fallout mini guns, sounds kind of cool when they spin up n down anyways. Also he says power armour was for pre war soldiers to be able to effectively carry and fire heavy mounted machine guns. Though you can carry them without using power armour . He also says the assault rifle in Fo4 is a ridiculous contraption that would not even work irl. Another fair call. He obviously knows his guns. I'm no gun expert, though I know the ballistic guns in Fo.N.V were far more realistic looking and handling. The M1 Garand ,and the Survivalists assault rifle were my favourite. Cleanest actions and most powerful and accurate for their calibre. Fo4 weapons were regressive looking, with the assault rifle looking like a WWI machine gun and the combat rifle ,shotgun looking like a direct rip of the USSR WW2 made PPSH sub machine gun. These guns were regressive looking ,definitely not retro futuristic. And the bolt actions being made for left handers, which was a ridiculous oversight in Fo4 . Bethesda would of been far better off using a collection of Fo3 and F.N.V arsenal for ballistic weapons. While the gun modding options were cool in Fo4. Most the ballistic guns were just cluster fuck ridiculous.

The P-80 can be explained by looking at it’s trainer variant, the T-33. In our world, they were used for decades after their official retirement in the USAF. It was apparently a fun aircraft to fly. Many base commanders found ways to keep one or two around for joyriding/proficiency training. The Air Force had to make a major effort in the late ‘80s to track down and retire them. So, it would fit that the aircraft at Rivet City could have been exhibits on the carrier. The airframes seen at Andrews and the one that crashed in Point Lookout would easily fit in as retained older models for training/joyriding.

My theory for the Shooting Stars is that they are kept as museum pieces and used in limited-service reconnaissance service, similarly to how the Hawker-Siddely Nimrods were used by the Royal Navy even when the original design was 70 years old, and Lockheed Constellation derivatives are still used to this day in limited service by some militaries. 100+ years is a really long time but it’s not much more than we have seen in real life, and in a resource-starved war torn world I can see it happening, and there’s nothing to disprove the fact that the remaining planes could just be reconnaissance planes or museum pieces. I can also understand the C-47 cargo plane, it’s derived from the DC-3, which remains in active service all over the world despite the design nearly dating back 100 years, and many people who use them say that “the only replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3.” It’s possible to me that the design really was so useful that it remains in service even in the 2070s.

The section that you were looking at on the Vertibird Bear Force One and calling a door probably was only an access panel for use in maintenance. The 'oval' sections you mentioned after, the one with wires leading to it, are more than likely the actual access hatches themselves, with the wires leading to electromagnetic locks or, otherwise, some more 'normal' locking mechanism or motor mechanism that would allow the pilots to open the doors without getting up. In fact, at time 11:42 when you show the view of the outside, it's fairly clear. The section on the right side of the oval is the hinge, and the section on the bottom is more than likely a set of steps that rotate down to make entry and exit easier.
@DAR10162
@DAR10162 Год назад
I would propose that the oval on the driver side of the vertebird is actually an optional gunnery station and the wires headed to the door is a plug-in point for something like a Gatling laser hence the reason that there's the smaller door within the door

11:25 one possible explanation is that the seats lean back. If you look at the back of the bottom half and the bottom of the back half you can see there’s enough space for it to recline, maybe to get in and out, they recline the chairs then incline them back when ready to fly.

For the shooting star a few things, Due to the fallout alternate timeline the shooting starts may have stayed in military service longer. And Liked by servicemen and stayed for training purposes. Many may have been upgraded instead of being phased out. Possibly kept for Air National guard and or kept in military reserve service as backups just in case to be issued in a hurry if the US went to war and needed immediate backups or to field additional units we didn’t have. The same thing could be said about many firearms in military service where a stockpile of older guns and gear is kept just in case typically for National guard units that tend to not have top of the line gear but use older equipment previously pulled from frontline service. Your theory of the Aircraft carrier in River City having been a historical museum is definitely possible, except I would expect to see different kinds of military airplanes. I personally got to see the USS Enterprise Museum ship in New York City (Not the Star Trek One, lol) the Enterprise is a former aircraft carrier that is used as a historical museum with a ton of various military aircraft on board, including the other USS Enterprise (The Real Space Shuttle)

Just spitballing a theory here but just as the POTUS in our timeline has the VH-60N “White Hawk” helicopters, the POTUS in Fallout may have used a specialized transport Vertibird as well. It only makes sense that the US in Fallout would redesign one of their most widely used forms of military transport for executive transport. The thing is that there wouldn’t have been anyone to use it, though, since the Boston Bugle’s “White House Remains Empty” article seems to allege that all the decision makers skipped town to the Poseidon oil rig. Considering Eckhart was Enclave, and the extensive safety features a “White Top” Vertibird would likely have (like EMP hardening), it’s likely that he simply commandeered it as an assured way to get to safety. Plus, if anyone asked, he could merely say “POTUS’ orders,” and that would be that since the President was virtually uncontactable to confirm/deny it.

I agree, the F-80E ( As I’ve nicknamed it ) would most likely be a deal where at one point it was sorta like the real world F-4, which was utilized by the USAF and the USN. The ones on river city were obviously part on the USN museum as for they would surely not be operating combat aircraft over or in such close radius to large residential areas. The one in point lookout I’m fairly sure is a USN aircraft as I think it’s mentioned in the black box recording. And as for the ones in the hangar at Adams Air Force base, I’d say it’s safe to assume that they’re trainers. It’s mentioned somewhere that in FNV that all the fighters and bombers at Nellis AFB were scrambled during the Great War so that’s why none are present there and would explain why none were at Adams AFB because they were just trainers and not active combat aircraft.

"Why is an aircraft that's over 100 years old found on an aircraft carrier, an airbase, and crashed into a point lookout bog?" Fun fact: While no working nuclear jets were made a nuclear rocket engine was made & test fired in real life. It was intended for several uses within the planned NASA integrated program for many different things including a mars landing in 1978. However it never saw flight due to the 1970s budget cuts.

The thing about the chairs, there are real life tanks in service today that have less space to get in a drivers seat. For the stingray, there are holes with cover plates on the body, if anything this is possibly where the maneuver thrusters were located at. In theory you only need forward, aft and 2 up/down on each side. Strafing can be preformed then by tilting the craft.

11:30 taking knowledge from a Lear 31, they either step onto the seat then put their legs into where the rudders pedals are, or just step over completely getting their feet infront of the seat. I’m also assuming the seats and slide back and forth to 1: allow the pilots in and out 2: so a shorter pilot can move the seat up and he can reach the rudder pedals

I think the Vertibird being able to use alternate types of fuel is just a reference to military equipment being able to use different types of fuel. There are multiple 5-tons trucks ranging from now back to WW2 that ran off diesel, but could also use gasoline, low-octane aircraft fuel, certain types of jet fuel, kerosene, heating oil or standard gasoline at a lower efficiency. But you're correct. They don't seem to use any sort of nuclear power. Its implied in New Vegas by Daisy Whitman that they use a traditional fuel source. So, a battery conversion would be stretching it.

3:55 The Vertbird seen at the Whitesprings Bunker may simply be the Fallout equivalent of Marine One or some other designation of on-hand transport craft for the Presidential Cabinet's use at the time of the Great Wars occurrence. Considering it's placement, I think it's likely that it was used to transport someone like the SoI, SoA, or SoT to Whitesprings Bunker before being abandoned during the ensuing atomic detonations. It might have even been transporting members of Congress looking to make their way into the Bunker before they and the flight crew were shot for being non-Enclave. The Appalachian Enclave overall lack of Vertibirds of the like seen at Raven Rock or PR-002 might be because Whitesprings was a safehouse, not a proper military installation.

@@pizzaluvah198 Oh yeah! But! I recently started a fallout 3 playthrough and I can confirm that it is indeed a Lockheed L-1011. I was tweaking for a bit. The S-Duct in the tail is prevalent in the entrance above the door, and it’s different than the DC-10, because that has a bit of space underneath the vertical stabilizer. Cool to hear you work near them though!

@11:30 the interior design is actually pretty pretty standard for military vehicles. No room. It's not unusual for someone to have to crawl over and around equipment in military vehicles. The inside also makes it appear as though there is a back ramp that opens. Which would be useful for flying in and dropping a squad of power armored soldiers in a combat zone without having to land.

YEEEEEEEEEESSSS VEHICLES (Me being annoying): Hey you could also make a "Spaceships of fallout" like the Delta IX Rocket. Fun theory-ish: The Delta IX is actually the best argument for the Vault Tec, the Enclave or something like this started the war (For me at least). All Delta IXs were transformed in atomic weapons for the USA and you can found one crashed and obviously undetonated Delta IX rocket in Washington DC. Because is an American weapon, for me at least, is a better "smoking gun" than an atomic bomb with a symbol that *looks like* an vault tec logo

Another reason the P80 could be prevalent is the resource wars. Afaik we don't know when nuclear powered engines rolled out. So maybe the US just thought using updated p80s and c47s for that matter was a good use of resources till that breakthrough came about.

@14:25 The arm on the Vertibird isn’t a pre war design. Bethesda explicitly stated in the book “The Art Of Fallout 4” that arm is a modification added by the Brotherhood to allow the craft to dock with the Prydwen. Its presence on pre war Vertibirds is just a case of Bethesda reusing assets.

The Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star may have been used in Fallout because Fallout is sit in a retrofuturistic world not a futuristic world in Fallout's retrofuturistic world many aspects of technology did advance to the point when the great war happened in 2077 but because it's a retrofuturistic world the Fallout world stayed stuck in the visual style and cultural aspects of the 1950s and 1960s. I don't know if that explanation is cannon or not but that's how I explain it to myself in my own head cannon.

I'm running a Fallout Tabletop RPG for some friends, and the differences between the XVB02 and the VB01 are a pretty big deal in the game, but rarely come up in game. My players have an XVB02 Gunship that they managed to repair, while the rest of the Commonwealth only has access to VB01 Transports. Its such a strange feeling to see someone who's not involved in that tabletop game refer to the Vertibirds by their proper names. They really are altogether different beasts if you put them head to head.

11:17 In the original design probably was a door, but in game and then after broken steel they mix the concept (probably by mistake) But i always thought that the real doors were the oval shapes on the sides, and that other "door" its probably an electrical or motor access panel. Similar discrepancies happen with the gunner windows in the interior/exterior of the APC in Fo4
