The days are getting shorter and the rats are slowly beginning to move back onto the farm. Mat Manning heads out after dark with his Brocock Bantam and ATN X-Sight II to see if there’s any early season action to be had with scaly-tails around the yard.
We’ve also go the LED Lenser P7 QC Gun Kit on test. This compact scope-mounted lamp features a neat colour-change system that enables you to switch between white, blue, green and red light without having to use filters of chance torch heads.

Fine show as always Mr. Manning: good shooting. Hopefully you will be able to get back to that farm later in the winter months and get back after those Rats. Cheers. William C. U.S.A.

Hi William, and thanks. I will certainly be heading back there. Cheers. Mat

I think that will do. I think 3/8" rise will clear the magazine and one half of the Hawk mount is extended so eye relief should be no problem. Now to the order. Thanks a lot Mat :)

Hi Mark, and thanks. Hope you get on well with it. It's a very good setup as long as you're not after extreme range. Sounds like you got a good deal. Cheers. Mat

Thanks for the reply Mat. Really impressed with it. No long range use it's only for short range ratting possibly using the red light on dim. Thanks again mate.

@theshootingshow
@theshootingshow 6 лет назад
It is a fantastic job, Terry. Mind you, the pressure can build towards deadline time if there's not much about - and shooting with a cameraman peering over your shoulder takes a bit of getting used to. All the best. Mat

Hi what would be the best use cases for each colour of light. Also which colour would be best to hunt rats. Thanks

Great show as always Mat. May I ask, what is your point of aim on the rat's head. Are you aiming just under the eye/ear? Thank you.
@theshootingshow
@theshootingshow 6 лет назад
Thanks. If it's presented side-on, then I'll usually aim to strike just behind the eye. All the best. Mat

Is that LED Lenser P7 QC shining invisible IR light? or just regular white light? Are the rats not avoiding regular white light?

love rat shooting on a night. Do you prefer the atn or the nite site ?
@theshootingshow
@theshootingshow 6 лет назад
Very tough call. Both are great but they are quite different. The ATN is brilliant if you have a gun you can set up specifically for night work while the Nite Site is a fantastic solution if you want to convert a standard day scope for NV work at night. Only downside with the NS is the head-up shooting position because of the screen. All the best. Mat

Thanks. Difficult choice, though I do like the fact that you don't have to shoot head-up with the X-Sight. All the best. Mat

How did you mount the X-Site? I noticed on the video it shows mounts by Sportsmatch. D
@theshootingshow

Hi Dan. The mounts used to attach the X-Sight are not SportsMatch. It's the ATN X-Mount. Not cheap but has a great quick-release mechanism. All the best. Mat

You should invest in a thermal camera. They will be as bright as the sun, easy to spot... you can get them for a few hundred pounds now.

I'm seriously considering getting the ATN X-Site II HD3-14. Have you had any problems with it. I've read things suggesting that customer support is poor, but if you get a "good" one, it's a great recording scope for day or night. Mark at PyrimydAir says he has a friend that really likes his. Just wanting confirmation that what I'm about to buy is worth the money.

I get on very well with it and have had no problems. The important thing seems to be to keep the firmware up to date - that seems to have ironed out any of the early glitches that some people reported. All the best. Mat

They are worth it when they are working, I sold a customer an ATN Device that eventually developed a fault not because of poor manafacturer, the Tube was blown through the customers miss use. Could I get any sense out of the ATN Company [no way] other than a rough quote of in excess of £1,000.00 for repair plus get an Export licence back to the states from the UK plus an Import licence into the USA, Night Vision is a controlled device and comes under very tight movement orders, Prior to this I contacted the Irish distributer and was told by them to get lost because It didn't get supplied by them, fareplay? so contacted the German Distributer who gave me the USA contact email...IT NEVER GOT REPAIRED AND STILL SITS BROKEN TO THIS DAY IN THE CUSTOMERS DRAW AWAITING A FAIRY GODMOTHER TO FIX IT. Was a good bit of kit while it worked and cost £2,300.00 new, since then my valued customer has bought 3x Pulsars from me and is very happy with them.

I noticed you using the X-Site II on a Compatto air rifle and that's when I realized that I'm going to have solve the problem of how to mount the X-Site on a Air Arms S510 and still be able to insert/remove the magazine. You mentioned an ATN X-Mount. Seams to be similar to my problem. I found a reference to the X-mount and it's 350 pounds sterling. That's half the price of the scope. Any other soulutions that are cheaper? I don't care about quick connect/disconnect, just getting the proper eye relief. The S510 will be my only air rifle and the X-Site my only scope. I'm just about to make the order so I need to figure this out soon. I hate to keep bothering you. You've got better things to do than hold my hand through this but it would be greatly appreciated.
@theshootingshow
@theshootingshow 6 лет назад
No problem. You'll need a Picatinny/Weaver to dovetail adaptor, and there are numerous more affordable options than the ATN X-Mount. The links below should help: www.tacticalscope.co.uk/rail-risers-adapters-bases-and-barrel-adapters-126-c.asp www.ant-supplies.uk/rails-and-adapters/
