Art2Life.com - Contrasts are interesting by virtue of what they are. They make art intriguing and exciting both to the artist and those who enjoy their work. Carl Heyward is a contemporary artist whose work is a powerful example of how the juxtaposition of ideas, colors, and even mediums can create a moving and powerful experience. His work centers around ideas of fragmentation, disparity, and collaboration, and the surprising part is that his art flows out of his process. He says that “In my case, the whole enterprise is questioned upon each studio session as an existential tightrope walk above an abyss.” It’s this process, an instinct you might call it, that enables him to produce harmonious but contrasting themes that are highly expressive.
At the time of this recording Carl was quite mindful of the stage of life he’s in. He sees himself being in his last phase of life and is therefore asking “What do I want to leave?” As we explore his approach to art, his creation of the Global Art Project, and his reflections on his current work, you’ll see how Carl himself is a focal point of contrasts, community, and collaboration.

It is very useful to hear an in-depth discussion of a working artist’s perspectives on his process and thinking.

I enjoyed every minute of this podcast, such great informations related to art projects, personal experiences and feedbacks. I discovered de FRAGS, loved that concept of sharing-creating new work, new contacts and relationships, I will look it up. "I do have social skills and I also think I have responsibilities". I think this is such an important point and observation that hopefully, many of us are considering right now in the current climate of society. What a thoroughly enjoyable and stimulating conversation to enjoy this Sunday morning. Thank you!

What a wonderfully rich conversation! I was wowed again and again hearing about the many facets of Carl’s life and art. What an exciting and fulfilling life, being true to himself while also providing meaningful experiences for so many others. I think he can rest assured that he has already established a stellar legacy even if he does nothing further. Thanks, Nick, for yet another stimulating and enjoyable interview.

The artist brought up immigration several times, being critical it appears, against "right wing" activists etc... Well my friend, last week (2024) the president of Mexico demanded 20 billion dollars from the USA and to make all his illegals that are living here, legal citizens. AND to recognize socialist dictators south of US border... This is a result having weak leadership in the WhiteHouse.... there are MANY rational reasons not to have unchecked foreign nationals freely walking across our borders. 8 or 10 million have crossed already in 3 years... it's true but truly unimaginable this has been allowed to happen because one political party in power has ignored our federal laws.
