Read our detailed ride report on the 2020 Pivot Switchblade here: bit.ly/TLW-Pivo...
Pivot Cycles introduces the all-new 2020 Pivot Switchblade - a bike with extraordinary versatility and category bending capability that redefines performance across every type of trail. We took the progressive long, and low geometry of the original Pivot Switchblade and pushed it even further with a longer reach, slacker head angle and steeper seat angle. Always with an eye on confidence-inspiring design, we shortened and straightened the Switchblade’s seat tube to allow for longer travel dropper seat posts in a more compact overall frame design.

I look at geo charts because i look at geo charts. i dont choose my bike based on it because i ride pivot exclusively. only brand i see where the hnic explains why the geo is what it is . Alot of brands just follow the trends.

I am not a Pivot owner but I really love Pivots and Chris. I really appreciate their philosophy of not just blindly following a trend, but rather listening to what is trending and applying it to their bikes in a way that makes it the best for that bike. It seems like so many companies these days are obsessed with having the longest reach or slackest headtube or whatever and, while they may accomplish this, they often don’t build the best riding bike. Bikes are a mechanical system that need to be thought of as a whole, numbers are just a part of the system.

Just bought this in green, medium, xt/xtr, three days ago. Im in Calgary Alberta Canada. I have RaceFace Aeffect pedals. I put Ice Spiker Pro in 29 X 2.25 on it. At -24C this beast brings a smile to my face. A dream to ride, so freakin' comfy. I'm 5'-8" 172 pounds. 68 years old. My other bike is a S-Works Diverge, Sram and XX1 wireless. That bike is a dream but this is more fun. Seriously considering a Pivot gravel bike. But seriously, if you can't buy it today, save up for it. It's worth it. I promise.

ahhhh so cute...are you a dentist by any chance ? People who buy bikes starting at 6k and don't compare charts and reviews are the reason why bikes are getting more and more expensive. You bought it because you can and you convinced yourself that it's an awesome bike because at that price ....it has to be right? Did you ride bikes half the price and felt really bad riding them ?

Chris is a true industry leader and actually really rides and knows how a bike should feel. My first “Dream Bike” was the original “Switchblade” he made at Titus. Back then I called and talked to Chris about my bike set up with the 5th Element shock and later converting to a Fox. Chris not only took the time to talk about my bike but also sent me new rocker links to update my frame to long travel. Right now I’m just waiting to demo the new SB and deciding between the Trail429 bike for my needs. Thanks for the interview!

Same here. I've demoed both 2020 SB and 429. Believe it or not I think might prefer the 429. I like the stiffer ride. The SB I struggled uphill and felt I needed to move the seat forward. Definitely a difference between the two

Hey Mr Wolf, I just watched your 5010 review and truthfully, setting these two side by side, the Switchblade makes the Santa Cruz look *FUGLY.* How do they compare (both in 27.5") when riding?
@TheLoamWolf
@TheLoamWolf 4 года назад
Hey thanks for reaching out. Both bikes have their strengths and excel in certain areas. The 5010 is probably a better dedicated play/freeride type bike whereas this thing is a well-rounded bike that does everything pretty dang well! Either way you won't be disappointed, but we'd be very hard pressed to make a decision, but may lean towards the Switchblade for OUR riding style and terrain.

Hello. New subscriber from the UK here. I’m really enjoying your videos. They are well presented and have excellent information. The Pivot brand is not something I’ve had a chance to see. I know of the brand, but I’ve not had a chance to see one in the flesh. It looks really a well thought out bike and has a nice stance. I just wonder if the addition of extra support within the shock has spoilt the small bump compliance at all? Anyway, I came across your video of the Santa Cruz Heckler, so I thought I’d take a look at that and was impressed, so I decided to subscribe. So, here I am taking a look at your other videos. Keep up the good work.

It would benefit alot from just 0.5 degree steeper seat tube angle, because there's more people than me that have noticed it being too slack. I ride a lot of uphill stuff, and you really feel zagging backwards because of it. I run it in the high setting and that helped, but I still wish for a bit more. It is very obvious this bike is aimed for when it is going down the hill, and I just feel they have pushed that too much, as well as it needs to be pushed before it wakes up. It is a mini enduro bike for sure, and personally I just wish it was more a trailbike for what most people actually have available as trails, given they have the Firebird for people who want all in bikepark action fun.

So it sounds like 4:30 he said the shock is tuned so only a very few expert riders can actually get the full travel out of the bike and most riders would need a different shim or valving. No idea why you’d tune the bike for a narrow/ small small portion of the rider base. I was thinking of buying a switchblade to replace my tallboy, but would this mean work well beyond setting sag like rebuilding or revalving from day 1? Thx

All the reviews are so similar to this one, out west bombing down wide open trails or at ski resorts. HOW ABOUT THE MIDATLANTIC RIDERS???.? is the bottom bracket too low/pedal and crank arm destroyer on the terrain and type of riding we have here? Does it need super short crank arms??? Tight switchbacks? Is it a truly great climber, or just good for a long travel bike?
@TheLoamWolf
@TheLoamWolf 4 года назад
Hey thanks for reaching out. We'd say that Pivot is certainly not in the trend of chasing the PNW bike build of super long, low, but it may not be a Jamis Portal either! It probably would do well over there but without having a ton of experience in the mid-Atlantic, we can't definitively say whether you'd need to adjust crank arm length or not. We'll try and spend more time over there in the future.
