Woodhill mountain bike park has reinstated AV8A, a mountain bike jump track with a serious drop and gap jump to clear. Can I pluck up the courage to do the jumps on my KTM Prowler e bike.
You got some big kahunas there lance! Good on you for pushing them boundaries..makes me want to do the same! Wish we had more of this in Dunedin…probably have as much rain lol
It is always hard to know how far to push the boundaries as I really don't like injuring myself. Not sure about Dunedin but the rain has driven me insane this winter in Auckland.
@@bestdayevermtb2 yes it’s been a terrible winter for riding down here too, just relentless rain and very muddy trails. Signal hill does not drain quickly. Got the new trance e+ just before winter and have hardly had a chance to ride it due to rain…Covid….rain…flu….snow…Covid…rain lol. Fingers crossed for dry trails and many injury free jumps and drops this summer!
Wow! You sent those jumps (even tho you admitted a wee bit o fear) top work fella👍,I now have no excuses to not try the few jumps that scare me.(will let you know how that goes lol) now you've pushed through the fear did you find that your confidence has grown?
The more you do the more your confidence grows. I am very calculated with my jumps. I analyse them alot and watch others doing them first. A bit of fear is good but I only do things that I am sure I can do. Too old to hurt myself.
@@bestdayevermtb2 its pretty good actually, we’ve got a really good selection of trails for all types and skill levels and its still growing. I’d say the only thing we could still do with is a few machine built bike park style jump lines like I’ve ridden in Whistler and Queenstown but I guess you can’t have everything! I’d love to have a crack at the trail in this video, looks big but do-able, mind you I know things look smaller on youtube!
@@bestdayevermtb2 great advice. Ive only been riding just under a year so im far from hitting those haha. Altho I am progressing very well and learning alot. Such a fun hobby aye😊
@@motorsport32cw progression is the key. Crashing is a part of the sport but injuries has set you back a long way. So build up to things in a sensible manner.
@@bestdayevermtb2 yep ive eaten the dirt a few times now luckily nothing too bad. Shoulder still a bit raw after wiping out up my local te miro on a slippery berm down 17hundy. Ouch😊
How rude, 🤣 yeah I remember doing that when it was first built back when the forest was still a forest on my DJ hardtail, the drop was the easy part the skinny and blind take off was the intimidating part for me esp on the old TOP DJ, great fun when ya hit the ramp though, I always liked the fence jump to gap at the bottom, can’t remember the trail it came off one of the OG tracks along the fence line beside the road to the old car park! Amal Nitrate was always a fav as well it had a nasty gap drop at the end as well and saw more than a few tacos and bloody endings come out of that one, it all looks a bit too well built now, I miss the sketchy days when Bjg Mumma and Little Mumma were littered with sketchy high as fck skinnies that looked like a light breeze could blow them down, highlights were often the Westpac helicopter carting people out, even saw a cop on a team building exercise bite the dust on big Moma skinny line and get choppered out , While I would never wish injury or that on anyone, as have had the ride in that myself (WP Helicopter) I never got injured at the WoodPoo (aka Woodhill) that was our nickname for the sandpit, seeing clay and Mitre 10, Woodsy level building quality and lots of rubber stripping seems a bit strange to me, still can’t seem to make good drainage off the side of tracks though it seems, skill still lost by many! .anyways good work “ Dads army,” Ya only as old as ya feel or can feel, you boys def hanging it out, a little to the left and a bit lower than most these days, but still good seeing the old boys fly, keep it up! 🤘 Ya need a road trip south boys and I mean deep south, pig island south, aka the Mainland, hit up the Hutt bike park, Ch Bike park, Mt Vic, a Port Hills, up at Godley Heads, Dunno’s Signal Hill, of Course Craigieburn, Wharf, Qtown dud, Sticky Forest, in fact you’d love out back Albert town, Nelson of course!.that’s just scratching the surface. Road trip boys, not that commute to RotoVegas thats not a road trip, that’s just another suburb of Jaffa land (Auckland) 😜👻
I think you just wrote you memoirs. Yes I do remember all the old stuff at Woodhill. I think the track building has got better, as you say lots of sketch little jumps with no landing. Sadly the guys are all in Queenstown this week but I had to pull out. A road trip would be awesome one day.
@@bestdayevermtb2 Lol, true dat, though my memoirs would be bigger than the Britannica Encyclopaedia set that’s just the Woodpoo riding 🤣 Ah bummer, re Qtown next time, someone should have sponsored ya trip, that would have made some great content for the channel. One day, one day. 🤙
Followed Grahams advice riding this track blind today. Sent the drop way too deep and crashed. Cheers Graham. (Got back on and did it straight after with a big heap of the braces pre drop)
Bugger. I hope you didn't hurt yourself. I must admit it is really good to watch riders doing it to get the speed right. Too fast off that drop can be sketchy. I must admit I don't brake before the drop I just roll in.
