I got to hear Hutchinson's demo truck at Slamology in 2019....it was brutal. I'm glad they came out with a line of subs that are a little more budget friendly. They V1 And V2 subs are straight up subwoofer porn.

JL uses a plastic former, and paper formers have been used for decades. Its nice to see more neo options. The sundown sd4 and ia flatlyne also compete in this territory yet the sd4 is made for sealed boxes and the flatlyne is more of a sound quality sub. Iirc fi had at one point a neo version of the q line which I think would likely be the best comparison to this sub without digging back to the early 200s with the tc sounds radial neo subs. Most other neo subs are purely spl designs which aren't really options for the regular user

Only real issue with neo is as the motors get hot they start to lose motor force. So in a spl setting after a few hard runs you will start loosing output. ppl have used fans to try to help offset this but that's why in a lot of the larger demo/competition builds you will see ferrite instead.

@kylevanwinkle2081 Год назад
Personally I think the motor on this one is the least impressive neo option from a visual stand point. The fins might help cooling slightly but I think they really added them to make the motor appear larger. This would fool the ignorant that have only known large motored ferrite designs and convince more people to try the smaller motor without that person thinking they are gonna lose much motor force. The tc sounds beehive designs we're absolutely tiny compared to the ferrite competitors. And we don't have any versions of that design still in production today Neo also has a side effect of needing more steel to create the motor structure steel is heavier than ferrite and in some cases ferrite can actually be stronger by motor weight.

This would have been a perfect opertunity to test if inverting your subs are louder or not. Theres so many benefits of neo magnets. Glad to see a 15. Cant wait unil you test some 18s!
@godsservant4844
@godsservant4844 Год назад
The subwoofer's cone creates the air movement, not the motor (magnet). The only reason inverting would make any change is due to the air space inside the enclosure being affected, not because of which way the cone is facing. if the increased air space from inverting creates noticeably more volume, you've prob got a severely undersized enclosure. Plus, the increased efficiency of the enclosure (due to more airspace) would probably come at the cost of decreased power handling of the sub seeing as how the air inside the enclosure acts as resistance to the cone thus helping it to stay under control. too much airspace means less air resistance to the cone thus increasing the chance of tearing the surround de to over-excursion, although this is splitting hairs for the majority of people who throw some junk subs in a prefab enclosure and call it a day. EMF audio has a video or two on YT talking about why an oversized enclosure can lead to tears in the surround.
@randomtube8226
@randomtube8226 Год назад
@@godsservant4844 What about the voice coils themselves? Do they create sound? Will they be any cooler inverted? That would be nice to see for science. I like inverting my subs so I can direct wire to them. Dont need a terminal cup or holes in the box.
@godsservant4844
@godsservant4844 Год назад
@@randomtube8226 The voicecoils shouldn't need additional cooling if they are on a well built sub and in enclosure that allows adequate airflow and the coils aren't being overpowered or sent a distorted signal from an overworked amplifier. those variables are really splitting hairs though in a properly set up system. Again i would say if inverting your subs provides some type of drastic difference in output, the system probably wasn't setup right or in the proper enclosure to begin with. I def agree with you on the cosmetic appeal of inverting them though. I ran two 15" PSI Platform 3 subs inverted in my SUV for awhile and loved them and how they looked.

Speaker efficiency is measure in 2 ways. The first is measured by running 1 watt RMS through a speaker and measuring 1 meter away. Sensitivity is generally given as a dB SPL / 1 W @ 1-meter rating. Other manufacturers give sensitivity ratings relative to the voltage of an amplified signal rather than the amplifier's power. This is often represented as dB SPL / Voltage @ 1-meter Parker said they were measured at 1 inch. He meant to say 1 meter.
@Grommet2007
@Grommet2007 Год назад
Efficiency is usually given in dB/1W/1M. Sensitivity is usually given in dB/2.83V/1M. "Reference" efficiency and sensitivity can both can be calculated from the driver's t/s parameters, so no need to do measurement @1M.

Gotta heatsink all neo because neo doesn't care for the heat. If I'm correct it's some 350f or 380f where in ferrite it takes another 100f or so before becoming demagnetized. Also I imagine that the lower rms rating are much more sensible to run neo since heat soak or saturation in less likely at a lower power handling subwoofer. Neo is great but it's kinda touchy when it comes to heat.

Seems to be a great sub all around. The price is a little high for only being 750rms, but it's a monster and takes it. Great video Parker! That was awesome to see 140

imo it would be a good idea to make some sub reviews in a box what u using for reviews regularly - like this skar box -, and after that make a custom box for it + review the sub once again...just it would be much more time consuming + more expensive, obviously because u would need to design / build the box of some materials, so i dont know that it is a good idea for u or not...but anyways, reviews like these would be good also for beginners who just buy a random box and put a sub in it, and also for people who are familiar with custom box design / build - because it is possible that a sub is will be not so good in a random box, but very good in a custom box optimised for the sub's ts parameters, and another sub maybe will not perform so different in both boxes - basically the reviewed sub in which of these 2 cases is good or not...
