ATTENTION! Just A Heads Up Overclocking the Ram Is Not Offical Supported or endorsed by MiniForum. We like to push these Mini PC to the limit but keep in mind it's not recommended. What should we test next? Steam OS3 “Steam Deck OS”?
CPU alone looks promising for a small factor PC. Hope you can do a GPU testing for all ram speed like from 5200mhz to 6400mhz gaming performance. Also, if possible to include dota 2 benchmark on your reviews. Thanks again.
Man, I love these Mini PC's. While I could never see myself buying one, at least for now, since they don't fit my use case, I still find it highly entertaining to watch videos about them and learn about them. I find the engineering put into making these systems work mindblowing. Often in the custom PC space, we always feel like we have to overcompensate on stuff like cooling and power just for basic tasks and casual gaming but then we see stuff like this that sip only a fraction of the power while being the size of a lunchbox.
This is exactly what I've been waiting for Really amazing performance with this 6900HX Keep Going On ETA You're The Best A regular viewer of the channel from Tunisia
Hey ETA Prime! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing our device! One thing I want to clarify is that overclocking the RAM is not stable and it is not officially supported by our company. But thanks for trying it and it looks good!
I think I might get one. A newer one. But do you guys have any recommendations for a newer gaming mini pc? I’m trying to get one of of Amazon if that is possible.
Yes!! Been waiting to see this review!! I'm really tempted to get it... the USB4 and RDNA2 iGPU are 2 major points in favor VS my Beelink GTR5 5900HX mini PC But, hard to justify buying 2 mini PCs within the same year in my case. Will wait for RDNA iGPU variants when they come out.
Absolutely perfect for me :D got it on order, and really hope it arrives before Xmas. It has 3x the CPU and 8x the gaming performance of my old PC, and with the same power consumption
Oh stop with that power consumption nonsense!!! 80 watts mean 18-16 cents for 10h on gaming. In my case we talk about 3-5 euros per month… and that’s a hell a lot of playing.
I have a 32GB 1TB unit on order so this was really timely and really appreciated. I'll just Vesa mount it to my monitor and get faster ram as an upg path later.
Just ordered one of these. REALLY excited to have a Minisforum as I've been eyeing them ever since you did your video on the B550. As a media server and light gaming rig, I think this is going to be 🔥
I get the feeling in the comments here (that feel very similar to my comments), we are getting really close to these mini pcs with integrated graphics becoming a mainstream pickup for many people, starting with this Gen finally and as we move forward. We have been close for a couple years. But this is right on the cusp of pickup for me even too. I am super excited to see these integrated graphics pcs in the next few years. They are gonna be running 4K, 60 constant on most games, if not all within a couple years. Mark my words. And even beginning to push 4K, 120 on some games which blows my mind for integrated graphics! Really exciting times!
Excellent review. I'm really into small setups/tiny living. I am a big gamer and play these titles plus Mfs2020. This little guy is a beast, may be next purchase and look good on a desk next tp my laptop. Thanks for the review.
I definitely have to put this small PC on my wish list. I like the cooling system, it add more value to the PC. And I think it's best for me to get a DDR 5 system because I'll be updated with full durability on my system.
Just places my order for the machine. Thank you for the video. Really wanted to find a good deal for a mini PC that could handle games as well and now I found one. Thanks.
Depending on what you need, it could be worth playing with. Sometimes you have to buy something to really get the gist of how you can use it and its utility to you.
I was eagerly awaiting this review. I preordered one a couple weeks ago and was hoping it would outperform the beelink GTR6. Guess I made the right choice as those were the two big contenders. Thanks for reviewing it.
Beelink gets you (4) HDMI ports in the GTR6. Minis Forum gives you (2) HDMI but you get the USB4 port on the front which allows for more video options like running a eGPU. The Beelink port is USB3 only.
Thank you Prime 👍 11:54 --- thank you for at-the-wall power measurements. 12:18 --- thank you for CPU temps. 12:32 --- thank you for fan noise commentary. Happy turkey day 2022, neighbours and friends.
Wow this is a nice mini PC. From everything I've seen from your channel, it's probably the one that's impressed me the most as of now. It's simply awesome, especially with the addition of that USB 4 port, it gives this mini PC alot more capabilities. I would love to see a video with an external GPU on this lil beast.
@@doublewhopper67 u don't say ? doesn't mean it's a no use case scenario.. makes no sense to avoid the option all together just bcuz of it's design form. relax buddy, and live a little.
@Ralph Reilly depends on your usecase. a small backpackable pc that you can plug in anywhere and use as a desktop? Hell yeah. I still want to game at home. getting this with an portable monitor would also be a great option to carry this around for traveling.
Now we're reaching perfection for my needs and requirements. Compact, silent when it should be, able to rev up when needed, eGPU capable, could probably get a total of three video outs from it which would let one try out VR via this little miracle.
The only thing I dislike about these minis forum boxes is that they're abandoned shortly after launch. I have the predecessor of this (the one that has the 5900hx) and minisforum never releases bios updates. Which doesnt seem like a big deal, but AMD actually includes performance improvements in their bios updates nowadays.
if you have know what motherboard your minipc has its easy to find the latest bios update. my old pc ( currently don't have one ) motherboard is bh61f and if i search, i can find latest official updates🤷
@@kayyyconnor897 Certain OEMs have a deal with Microsoft to update the bios of their prebuilts/laptops via windows update but thats definitely not the case here. An updated bios would also have to actually exist for windows to update minis forums motherboards, it's only a delivery method. I'm aware that it will work on the stock bios (which minis forum doesnt even provide on their support page). The issue is that a year or two down the line, whatever vulnerabilities or bugs may come and be fixed by AMD, your just SOL If they're major (the dozen or so sideload vulnerabilities in cpus fixed in bios updates in recent years come to mind)...A few years ago I would have agreed with you that bios updates aren't important, but AMDs Agesa updates can drastically change the way a processor behaves in certain workloads, usually for the better. My gripe is that it feels bad to buy a brand new motherboard/pc that feels like its discontinued from day one. Edit: I meant Sidechannel vulnerabilities, not "sideload"
Crazy cool to see working in such a small form factor. Taking from looks like the size of a SNES and playing god of war on it to any degree is just amazing.
Just got mine and I'm blown away with how quick this guy is. I "upgraded" from an Asus A15 gaming laptop but ran into a lot of cooling issues. I always used it connected to a 4k monitor, so getting a mini pc made sense for me. To those who say these are just as expensive as a gaming laptop, but with no screen, keyboard, etc, I would argue that artificial power limits on most laptop cpus/gpus and cooling limitations give laptops much worse results compared with Mini PCs using the same components. Its dumb just how much cooling matters, and having a battery, keyboard and screen sitting on these components adds a lot of heat and less room for ventilation. Thanks for introducing me to my new best friend ETA Prime
I recently heard about mini PCs and seeing it run Cyberpunk 2077 without using the eGPU is mindblowing! I'm probably going to be selling my desktop pc to buy a mini!
It’s crazy that you no longer need a huge pc to get great perform. I feel like the big pc builds are more for looks now a days with the amount of power you can have in a small built
I have the UM560 and seeing reviews about the quality of product coming out of Minisforum gives me great confidence that I bought from the right company
Would love to see a video going through options for Wifi/BT modules for these mini PCs. Have had struggles with Intel Bluetooth chipsets not supporting multiple game controllers at the same time.
The beelink ser5 pro was a nightmare just trying to use a wireless mouse. The Intel ax200, I even tried upgrading to the ax210 with no luck. Finally sent it back and got the um690.
I was lucky to order this early with 64GB RAM and 1TB M.2 SSD to get it shipped at the end of Nov. Also getting ACASIS 40Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure with a MSI SPATIUM M480 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2TB 2280 Internal SSD to take advantage of the USB4 port. This is replacing my ancient computer with a core i7-920. I was just waiting very patiently for RDNA 2 igpu mini-pc to finally be released instead of Vega graphics. ps. Looking forward to see how much of a difference using 6400mhz instead of 4800mhz ram makes.
I’d love to see the performance of the integrated graphics on emulation! If you make more videos on this machine that’d be super helpful! Also, any hopes of testing the external gpu on more games? I’ve never used an external gpu before, but I’m really interested in doing so, so I can have retro/easy to run games on the go, and powerhouse ray tracing graphics at home
Emulation is mainly cpu focused but upscaling can put the gpu to it's test. However max 3x original resolution is enough for most games unless you use a hd texture pack. Igpus can do it at 10 watts. Makes you think if arm really is that efficinet or just smaller nm helps them.
@@shlokshah5379 most modern emulators translate graphic calls to hardware shaders. There is no way to do CPU rendering on any modern console. They are even using Vulkan over opengl for even more speed.
yeah this. gonna be awesome if this thing can run ps3/switch emu with smooth fps

@@shlokshah5379 I don't know anything about anything, but it wouldn't surprise me if ARM really is just much more efficient. It's so much younger than x86/x64, which means it's likely to be designed with modern computing needs in mind.
@@shlokshah5379 That was a story based on AMD Bulldozer fiasco of decade ago, as that was crazy unefficient x86 architecture But after "AMD 25x20 Energy Efficiency Initiative" goal set, that go from years 2014-2020 and delivered... that old story about bad efficiency simply isnt so true anymore 😊
You recently reviewed the GTR6 from Beelink, comparing this mini pc, which would be the better one? that would be a video I would definitely watch. thanks.
Watch all of your reviews. Very informative. Would appreciate benchmarks for PC games such as Cities Skylines, Transport Fever 2, and Farming Simulator 22. It is very difficult to find stats for these games on Mini PCs with IGPUs.
Hey +ETA PRIME , I've got 2 suggestions for you test-videos: 1. I thing video export could be a valid test as well for those small machines since they fit perfectly into home office or living room and more and more people seems to want to cut and export their smartphone 4K holiday videos. You could use a freeware like DaVinci Resolve free and a "standard project" for the same testing. 2. It would be cool if you would kinda integrate the results of the "old generation" of such devices, maybe from the Ryzen 2400G or 4650 G. Just to see the leap in performance for upgrading. The idea of an extern GPU is kinda nice when plugin into a mobile device like Steam Deck. But for a stationary Mini PC I think it's kind off pointless because the point of having a Mini PC is less space. With an extern GPU case I would have 2 cases now on my desk which could be also achieved with a much cheaper Small PC build with standard parts. Thumbs up and cheers from Germany!
definitely interested in seeing a more powerful card, and comparisons to a more traditionally sized pc at similar specs.

A bit of an unusual request: I am interested in mini PCs for fighting game purposes, and input latency is something I wonder about. And that's not something that manufacturers just list on their websites. I wonder if you are able to do some kind of latency testing with these machines? There are various methodologies for this.
Amazing machine, can you pls specify the recommendations for RAM and Hard drives for top performance ? Because I’m not sure if its worth it to get it backbone or with the factory parts.
Great video! The PC I built about 5 years ago is starting to act up and is taking up a lot of space. I was thinking of getting a Mac Mini but I like to do a lil game here and there (mostly Snowrunner) and Twitch streaming. Maybe one of these lil guys will do the trick.
Woah. This is more in-line with what I was hoping these RDNA2 PCs could be. Side note: ETA Prime’s channel is becoming one of the most interesting PC hardware channels. I’ve thrown random compliments on some videos but it’s time to recognize just how consistently good your uploads are. Can I ask what the top 2 things are that keep your channel so fresh?
If I could get away from PC gaming at 1440+ 144FPS I would for sure move to something like this and attach it to the back of my monitor. Cools stuff. Reminds me of the Zbox but those had up to a GTX 1080 at the time.
FYI, the 5600mhz ram on Amazon is single rank. I’m not sure if the other Sodimms are dual or single as it’s not labeled but it could be a big drop in performance if your current stuff is dual rank.
This is quite interesting. I'm looking for something to replace my older system like I haven't had a desktop before I need something for business work and possibly even some photography work I do but of course I do game and I do have those few friends who want me to play certain games and it is not possible with my current system and wondering what would be recommended. I'm having my eye on this and it's catching it for sure.
Great video, thanks! If you have one available, it would be cool to see a 4000 series card running externally. I’m seriously considering picking one of these up.
For $500 with the deal going on now this little PC would solve 90% of gamers problems. This small form factor plus the ability to add an egpu almost makes the case for egpus to really be out there in the marketplace. Coming up at March or April I'm finally going to lay down some cash and get one of these or whatever the best deal is at the time. This literally gives my graphics card a good upgrade route when they figure out whatever they're doing next year for the new cards and staying pretty much in that top tier with backwards compatibility. I'm really surprised at the amount of hate that some of these little boxes get because they're remembering what a little box like this did 5 years ago: nothing more than a raspberry pi
IN YOUR OPINION WHICH OF THESE 2 BOX WOULD BE BETTER FOR GAME EMULATION? What do you think would you invest in? BOX Nvidia Shield TV OR BOX H96 MAX V58? WHICH IS THE MOST POWERFUL EMULSION MY FRIEND? I WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE ONE OF THESE BUT I'M IN DOUBT?
@@mmcweight8827 100% agree Nvidia shield is definitely showing age. You can find for less than $100 used. Either one of those little boxes are going to treat you so well around the $500 range. You'll probably be able to emulate switch definitely PS3 maybe PS4 and everything legacy. Basically unless you're trying to play super new games at super-high settings you'll be fine.
I’ve always wanted one of these small systems just with an apu but the graphics performance have never been good enough until now. I can’t wait to see 7000 amd apu’s with rdna 3 graphics. Man amd has came so far in a short time i was a intel only person for many years cpu wise and my last 3 cpu’s have been amd. Im still waiting on the 7000 series 3dvcache models. While I do have a nvidia gpu (4090) I think the average person should buy last gen amd their price to performance is getting insane and if you play 1440p the 6950xt is crazy fast. And the 6600xt is so cheap now and is a little faster than a 5700xt. I love collecting gpu’s and cpu’s and benchmarking different hardware. I have a 5950x and 5800x3d in my main systems and my newest intel cpu is a 9900ks. The 13900k a great cpu just don’t want to get a cpu with a dead socket and 3d vcache models should destroy intel.
oh yeah I can't wait for my next upgrade. I'm on a 3800x and 3070 right now. I'm gonna be moving to a 5800x3d next to get some more years out of my am4 socket, then I'll probably upgrade to a 7700x3d or 9700x3d eventually (although maybe I'd upgrade my gpu by then, will definitely be going team red as not planning on supporting nvidia any time soon). 5800x3d is such a damn great deal, I get to keep my old socket with performance closer to the 7000 series!
I really, really wish someone out there would create such a mini PC with a dGPU like a 6800M/S in it. Essentially a Asus G14, but as mini desktop PC. Maybe a tiny GaN PSU? Man would that be nice.
Delayed release due to some software instabilities to fix (version with SSD and RAM). Due to customs problems in the EU, the Barebeone version will suffer delays in delivery, probably between the end of December 2022 and the beginning of January 2023. Rispondi
Update: The Barebone version has arrived in Germany. Between Friday and Saturday the first shipment tracking (DHL) was sent to EU buyers. The UM690s will probably be delivered just before Christmas.
I think that whole mess was blown out of proportion. The HX90 was still a really nice mini PC, and they had some great releases prior to this too. It was definitely a learning experience for them though. 😂
Love the content man! If I can request something, would you be able to do more comparative testing. Like you did with the faster ram for the benchmark section. I'd like to see how this system compares to in the full socket desktop setups.
They missed out on adding some RGB to that stand for even more FPS : ) I am assuming that the white is semi transparent adding a few small RGB strips would be an easy mod
For a next PC, I'd like to combine the efficiency of such a good APU when not gaming, and just connect an external dGPU when needed. But I've never used an external dGPU: could you please make a little buying guide for external dGPUs and the basic how-to? ❤️
I just bought a new graphics card for my PC. It's a AMD Radeon 6900 xt and that Graphics card is so massive, it takes three and a half UM690 Mini PC's together to equal the size of my graphics card. As new technology comes out I hope that the new graphics cards start shrinking in size as they get better because to install the new graphics cards, you need to add a large bracket to prevent the weight of these new graphics from braking off of the motherboard.
Much better price point but I'll probably keep waiting. Also must consider that these basically compete with Steam Deck which I think sells for same price or cheaper and those come with LCD RAM and Storage...
Thank you for this video. I use this as a remote desktop to access my pc at home or I also use it to play games in work when on breaks with my coworkers or when travelling. I wanted to buy an egpu dock and wasnt sure if Thunderbolt worked with USB4 on this PC as sometimes Thunderbolt support isnt enabled for USB4 on some devices.
ServeTheHome just reviewed this mini PC as well and they found that due to high memory temps, the system was throttling itself because unlike the Beelink GTR6 6900HX (which also has the same CPU as this), the Beelink system had a fan for the NVMe and SODIMM RAM. What was the max temperature that you saw for the RAM when you were testing this system?
How do you think this compares to their HX90G? I’m torn between the two. It would be mostly WFH, but do enjoy the odd gaming session here and there - particularly offline modded games. I was also considering the Minisforum Neptune, but the increase in price and footprint I’m struggling to justify. Space is a premium in my house and I don’t have a permanent place to set it all up.
Would like to see 4K emulation tested on this with igpu but faster RAM. RAM tends to bottleneck the iGPU so slap in 32GB & oc to 6000 or better & let's see what this puppy can do. I got their nucx-i7 & it rocks btw. 🤘
Great video! The eGPU looks so simple to hook up. Side note, the animated wallpaper around the 12 minute mark looks amazing. What software do you use to do that? And where did you get that animated clip?
