The so called bands today have no idea how to make good music plus civilization was different then. I hitch hiked across the country and people picked you up and had no worries. Man I miss that music and those days.
Man I feel old! When this was taped, I was working for the Mass Army Guard as a medical crew member on UH-1's. Seven months later, I was hired as an air traffic controller. I am now retired and bumping 70 -- to all of you young folks out there, time goes faster than you think! I look at these videos now and reflect on who in them is now gone from this planet...
Dickey plays the same way you would do the air guitar. He hits every note and chord hard and clean and he can keep it going on and on and its always so fresh....not every gig, but when he hits it hard on the nose...damn. Just listen to one way out 12/31/71 New Orleans warehouse... obviously i can name a ton more... Hollywood florida 73 in memory of etc...opening song and mountain jam....the dude is super natural. Top 5 I don't give a shit what anybody says. ...and he's cool, kind of outlaw. I really dig his grand ol Opry motif 😁
No such thing as “Southern Rock”. If the Brothers, Skynard etc.. we’re “Southern Rock” then everyone above the Mason-Dixon Line is “Northern/Yankee Rock”? WTF?
Yeah, like the Dead, these guys come from a scene that was not about studios, but was about honing skills night after night in the clubs, live on stage.
I miss Butch so much! He and Jaimo were the best drumming duo ever. Depression is a dangerous drug. I pray he was forgiven for taking his own life and is in the arms of God. RIP, Butch!
It’s beyond magical. I’m laying in bed groovin in the sheets wondering if my kids will ever appreciate this. I’m a jam band rat and I realize how special the whole band was. So tight. Rarely leaves the pocket. It’s a beautiful thing!
This is a Classic Master Piece. I like Classic Master Pieces. Classic Master Pieces are forever. Thank You Allman Brothers, band and family for this legacy of music. Hugs.
I got to meet dickey Betts and his later years when his son was playing guitar with him for Great Southern signed one of my drum heads the whole band very nice man rest in peace Dickie I've seen you three times I've enjoyed every time be safe be peaceful
This is straight professional league fastball kick ass rock n roll right down your throat no chaser burning and lightning fire blasting everyone and everything in its path
I saw them live in an outside concert '84 in Mass. No seating just walk around. I stood bout 10 feet from Greg at his piano. Best concert I've ever been to! I was fortunate.
The best Southern Rock Band of the decade! There will never be another Gregg Allman! I saw them in concert, at least 20 x's & was never disappointed. They were as amazing in concert as they were on vinyl! R.I.P. Gregg Allman. I Love You Forever, as your legend lives on. Thank you, my Brother.🙏❤😘
Goddam Dickey was ON FIRE here! One of the things I'm very proud of was getting to the Allman Brothers Band when Dickey was still with them...guess they won't be getting back together now. R.I.P. Gregg...you will be missed.
Amazingly clear video. It’s stuff like this that makes u tube worth while. As great as this looks and sounds, I wish the ABB would have thrown that “synth guitar” or what ever it was in the river. It doesn’t fit in with the rest of the sound.
When I was growing up in the 1970's, I wanted long hair like Gregg Allman. I was super liberal and looked up to my hippy Uncle. Nobody does this hair now, but it would be cool if some cool kids were doing this music. I want to teach children how to play rock and roll music like this. You can put together 10 kids and do this online. Make a new wrecking crew. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶 It looks like the Allman's picked up some of the wrecking crew from the studio back then. Some of these guys, I don't know them. They sound unbelievable.
When I wanted to play Kiss solos my uncle Billy said - check out Betts, Steve Miller and Robby Robertson. He also said sometimes it’s the note you don’t play. Still the best advice I ever got
I met the lead guitarist from the Steve Miller Band back in the 80's. He was dating an older friend of mine's daughter and he was sitting right there in the living room with us -- how cool!
This was the band I saw the first time I saw them, minus the keytar, in Savanah GA. Same year, probably same leg of the tour. This is on fire and Dickey is in top form. I learned vibrato that night watching Dickey shake the strings so hard they broke! You had to see it live back then or not at all!
Evidently them Gainsville Youngstas knew what was HAPPENIN with Southern Blues/Rock !!! Lived in Tampa at the time but unfortunately missed this. You can be sure I was affording them time on my system !!!
The Allman Brothers were before my time as I get older my appreciation for all things opens up.im 53 born 1968 and have John frusciante Nirvana all over it, So just love this kick ass version .Does anyone know how freaking tall Gregg Allman is ,Jesus at the intro him walking towards his keyboard, looked enacingly tall and big boss.I loved him as a drug dealer in the movie Rush ,kinda just playing out his life things seen and not easily forgotten was amazingly raw andreal .no acting just exuding
seen abb band I 99 and 2000 at the beacon with dicky betts gregg allman the origal drummers and joiame john on the bass still one of the best shows Ive ever seen !!!! named my daughter after their song melissa 99 that was their first encore still gives me chills !!!!! the old hippie ""byrdman 62""
Agreed.....I saw both bands many times...As great as Derek and Warren are their styles don't quite capture Duanes and Dickies.. The were a once a million duo
I Saw them 7 Years after This Show in St.Pete., FL at The Bayfront Center. Dangerous Dan Toler, W/Brother Bill on The Drums, and Don't Remember if "31 Years Ago", at 61 Yesterday, Oct. 5th. 2018....If Butch, Warren, or Which Bass Player it was either. I Did Cash in, by Having a Friend that Grew up in Southern IN., with Danny & Bill Toler, And So we Got Hooked up With "Back Stage Passes", So the Edgar Winter Band, Johnny Was Too F'd Up Too See, Let Alone Play cause Our Group Saw Him a Mess Back Stage, You'll Have That. But We Only Had 1 Back Stage Pass too Share In Getting 3 or 4 of Us Back Stage, So Danny's Friend Walked back With Toler, Then Came back out & Passed the Pass On, And We Did it for Me & 1 More Person. They did not Check My Wife. Leon Russell was There, For His 80 Minute Jam too, Any Way it was a Good time, then too Club Detroit, a Night Club we Party'd At Till After Sun Up, & All The Stay up Late Stuff Was Gone lol. Man Was That Sun in Our Eyes Bright when We Walked Outside. A Good Show, But Nothing Compared too Duane & Dickey, Back in The Day Thank You Duane and Gregg Allman, My Brother's for All Your Devotion too Music, and The Rest of Member's, and Crew, Cher, Through The Years. Hope This Was Not A Boring Reply. I Left A Lot Out, Ladies & Gentlemen. RIH Dudes, Drummer From Florida, Typing This Listening too Soulshine Now. See/Ya
could you imagine them playing for 45 min then skynyrd for 45 then another 30 of the allmans then skynyrd does a few and THEN they all come out for rousing finale of One Way Out and Freebird
Yeah that would be the dogs bollocks Vader6972, and then a final finale with their rendition of Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree with Ken Dodd on xylophone and Mickey Rourke on sax. We are talking "Kick some ass motherfucker"
ABB is my go to music.I think they were better after Dickey left because both Warren and Derek are blazing good on guitar and slide and no fighting was reported in the band as was before. Dickey might have kept his cool if Duane had lived because he seemed to keep everyone focused on the music back then. I miss Duane and Gregg every day. What a great legacy these guys left, absolutely timeless music. They were in my humble opinion, the best band in the world around the time of Fillmore and before they were filthy rich and still hungry then.
