I have the FX3 and the Lumix S5ii/X. I love the colors out of each and they both perform about the same on the day of. However, my main reason for using Lumix is that the FX3 overheated on a wedding and the only thing that saved me was running a multi cam setup with my Lumix cameras. Lumix cameras have never overheated on a wedding day. I did have high temp mode setup on the FX3, and the only thing that was different was using a third party battery. Since then, I have only used Sony batteries in the FX3 and no longer have had any over heating issues. Something to consider when buying an FX3 is always use Sony batteries for the most reliability.
Rocking 2x GH5Ss love the low light and lightweight lenses. Second shot for someone with a FX3 and 24-70 on a gimbal and man was that tough to carry around all day vs. my GH5S and a panasonic 12-35mm
Canon r6 and C70 use the ole r6 primarily. It holds up really well! Clog3 and some ND filters for RF to EF lens adapters. It's small. It's light- it can go on the ronin. I've not had it over heat like everyone says- bc I shoot 24 fps for longer recording moments like Ceremony, Speeches, Etc. It's like $1500 used I think right now and I've loved it!
I use the fx30 I moved on from my constant overheating R6 in 4k and I’ve shot one wedding so far and I could see the difference is image quality with color grading instantly. And the recording with everything lighting up red is amazing
I don't think I've ever left a comment on a RU-vid video before, but I just have to let you know this: You are such an inspiration to me when it comes to wedding filmmaking. I love your style-cinematography mixed with a sense of realism by not overdoing the slo-mo. I aspire to be like you one day. I've been filming weddings as a contractor for a company, but this summer is my first doing it on my own. I have a Sony A7iv and FX30, and I just bought your LUT pack. Jaired, I used the FX3 for weddings twice this year, and MAN this thing is so good. Its leaps and bounds over the Canon R6, and doesnt leave me wanting more with my image.
I'm currently a c70 owner operator and have been considering selling and switching to Sony for a while now and the fx3 is at the top of my B&H wish list. One of my biggest goals for the second half of 2024 and moving into 2025 is I want to change and evolve my entire approach to videography in general. One of the biggest things you mentioned is form factor. I'm often running my c70 on my Ronin RS3 pro and man, does it get heavy! Even after 5 to 10 minutes of use, you kind of need a break. While I'm sure the Fx3 mk II will be an amazing camera especially with all of Sony's AI auto-focus advancements over the last few years, but who knows when that will come out. The fx3 will get me into the ecosystem and when I need to, I can make the upgrade. The biggest thing that I will miss from the c70 is built in nd filters.
I really struggled a few years ago because I really didnt want to leave Canon and wanted to just rock C70 + R6 combo. But the cost of the C70 and RF lenses didn't make sense at the time because of what I could get with Sony for the same price. Along with the unreliability of the R6, it was time... But I really don't fault anyone who currently rocks this setup because it is so good. But with that a smaller footprint, low profile setup is so nice. I know im hoping they put built in NDs in the next edition!
If I wasn't saving up for a new car, I'd 100% be using my makings from weddings this summer to get the FX3. Absolute dream camera! Stuck with the Sony a7iii for now, but works well for what it is. You're a huge inspiration! Thank you for everything you do!!
Big fan of the FX cinema line! Like you said, the small profile and ease not just to move around, but taking the ease off of people to feel more comfortable and natural. The overheating with Canon is a big reason I’m looking to switch sadly, but it’s with it!
I also find I have no real complain about my a7sIII after using it many years. Two things I wish it could do. One is I wish it use iso 6400 as second iso not 12800 as I find the noise reductiom is too aggressive and 6400 is more practical for real world usage. Second is I wish I could do apsc 4k.
Very true! I really have nothing to complain about either. Like I said in the video the ONLY thing im really looking forward to in an upgraded FX3 is built in ND Filters.
I'm a A7R5 owner with a Tamron 20-40mm. It's a fantastic combination for hybrid social media work. It took me a bit to get used to coming from Nikon, but it's not let me down. Things that just work are AWB and AISO. Plus having easy to use reliable AF, just takes the stress out of creating content confidently. I don't really need to shoot log, so I shoot 1080p 50/100fps mostly vertical these days. I've just started to get used to shooting video clips using the EVF, this helps with stability which is a bonus.
I did this at the beginning of 2023, and I haven't had a single regret. I had a 1dxiii and R5c. Now I run an a7siii and a7iv with eyes on an fx3 and fx6 combo for bigger jobs.
Everyone please remember the R6 is a photo/video camera, as well as almost half the price of an FX3. The R5 and R5c are the more comparable cameras in the canon space. I’m a Sony guy as well but just want to make sure everyone knows we are putting the FX3 against very unfair competition 😂
Yes everyone please remember this is a subjective topic based around one filmmakers opinion/personal experience with all cameras mentioned and at the end of the day make your own decisions, do your own research, rent cameras before you buy, go call a loved one, touch grass, and don't take life or videos on the internet too seriously.
@@35mmdigitalcinema videography = capturing moments in time. Filmmaking = telling a story. I think both are valid. Sure there are different elements to filmmaking but I would relate lighting control, set design, more to cinematography over filmmaking.
Honestly Lumix is going to be a force to be reckoned with. The newer models are seriously so solid and its only a matter of time until they make their own version of the FX3
I have both the FX3 and S5ii/X cameras, and I've tested them both at events. In low light, the dual native ISO of 4000 on the Lumix is comparable to the 12800 on the Sonys. I don't know if they meter the ISO differently, but I would argue that the Lumix full frame cameras perform just as well in low light.
@@WaywardNorth I think an S1h MarkII would be a force to reckon with. I am however totally happy with the S5II for my hybrid wedding and lifestyle work… even though I would love an uncropped 60 FPS.

As someone who doesn’t follow the 180 rule a number that high doesn’t bother me as long as I can crank the shutter speed high enough. Hi Jaired, Im shooting with A7S3, love this camera but not happy with Sony IBIS (considering switch to S5iix). Yours shoots with FX3 are almost smooth😮 Are you using also electronic stab or postprocess stab on FCPX? Thanks
I film in 60fps and often times crank shutter so I do have to be ultra mindful of my movement and when I slow down it helps and I do often find myself using FCPX stab on certain occasions
@@MODESTYXO205 The FX3 is a sound investment today because it really has all you’ll need minus built in NDs. The ZV E1 is a great backup camera imo. But who knows Sony may on the precipice of releasing the next groundbreaking cinema camera that trumps all of them
What ND's are you using? I'm using the nisi 1-9 stops, but when i stack 2 nd's it creates vignetting that I hate if i'm shooting 24mm, and often 5 stops is not enough
realizing my rf28-70 almost cost what the fx3 is discounted at right now is a punch in the stomach. Maybe switching teams isnt a bad idea after all......
@@Burritosarebetterthantacos RF lenses are insaneeee. A big reason I switched was because of the lack of versatility between third party glass with Canon and their new RF system. It just doesn’t make sense anymore. Canon will always have beautiful cameras but they are limiting their fan base and a lot of us who used to be Team Canon are happy we left
@@amirleon996 Boy oh boy so many questions about the R6 to the A7Siii lol at the start I bought the a7siii and A7IV and the sigma 24-70 for Sony e mount. I still had adapted glass and manual focused using these adapted lenses. I’ve seen added more native glass to my arsenal so I don’t have to worry about it much anymore.
The fx3 is a $3900 cinema camera, being compared to a $2500 hybrid camera. Doesn’t seem like a fair comparison. Maybe compare it to a $3500 R5c. Sony fx3 is a great camera but, don’t understand the comparison and criticism of a mid level hybrid.
@@anthonyk27 I assume you’re referring to the R6 + A7Siii comparison? I wasn’t comparing the FX3 to the R6. But you also have to understand that Canon marketed these cameras (R5/6) to Videographers and it was marketed horribly. Of course me invested in canon heavily at the time was excited and then disappointed dealing with all these headaches such as codec limitations, no dual recording until a firmware update, overheating etc etc. I think it’s a valid comparison and critique considering this is based around my experience with these systems. Of course price is going to be elevated in a system that outperforms in every category.
@@dericsanchez4081 better than a C70 where you spend that on just the camera. That’s also why they made the FX30 as a cheaper alternative. Sure you lose some features but I think Sonys pricing is generous considering the options and competition.
