Arriving at the end of the sunset the Alpena gives a great steam powered salute!! She is one of the local favorites. She always comes bearing cement for the LaFarge dock in Superior, spends about 24 hours discharging then departs light via the Superior entry.

The Leon Fraser! My first steamer. I shipped out on her at the end of the steel strike in November, 1959, as a green deckhand, then got called back for the 1960 season. Captain Gus Olson was the master. Finished as an AB watchman aboard the sister ship Benjamin Fairless, December 1964.Great memories! Thank you!

I always scan the crowd and the area trying to identify where I would hang out if I lived near the harbor. A good book reading spot, excellent view, not too close but close enough to hear the water slipping by.

It's a tough one...the Alpena and her true steam whistle or the Barker and it's dual tone air horns. I love em both!

What a lovely video! The crowds were so enthusiastic, it was a beautiful time of day, and the star of it all; a beautiful 77 years young ship. I would love to ride under the lift bridge in what appears to be her crow's nest. Thank you for this! 😊😊😊

Thank you Paul Scinocca for your videos. I have been enjoying them immensely for quite some time. I’ve been trying to convince my wife that I need to go to Duluth to run the “Grandma’s Marathon” but I really have an ulterior purpose. 😁

I'm amazed at the number of people to watch a ship come in to port!!! Is there some sort of museum there? Why are so many people there? We don't see that here in Houston!!! Keep Rocking it out!!!
