Definitely agree with the more Carlo Crivelli! One of my favorite artists, I love his Annunciation from 1486!

I went into NG especially to look at the Crivellis both discussed in this youtube and they've been removed! What is happening NG and when are they coming back, both amazing art works of the Annunciation and Immaculate Conception, please?

NG dates this painting to 1470-5, not 1575 (6:27), so only the three Magi portraits were dead at the time of the painting.

The painting dates from about 1475. He has simply made an error of speech here, being fully aware of the dates of the famous Botticelli. Part of the confusion could be that while Italuans refer to the quatracento, English speakers call it the Fifteenth century. Calling the 1400s the 15th C is particularly confusing to non- historians. When talking to young people, I tend to say Fourteen hundreds. Etc

One of the annoyances here is the description of Botticelli's wonderful altarpiece of the Adoration of the Magi. So many of thr figures are wrongly identified. This becomes clear when one takes evebn a cursory look at the two people identified as Piero the Gouty snd his brother Giovanni. Are tjese two males barely 3 or 4 years apart in age? Clearly not! One is a mature man and the otjer, a lad! So who is who? Cosimo had two sons. Piero the Gouty and Giovanni. Piero had two sons, Lorenzo the Magnificent, and Giuliano. Lorenzo had a lover. Agnolo Poliziano. Chief among Lorenzo's teachers was the Bishop of Arezzo, Gentile de Becchi. These are the people represented here. 1. Cosimo dei zMedici is indeed the first and eldest of the Three Kings. 2 The second King kneels to the Christ Child in s red robe. This King is represented by Cosimo's second son, Giovanni. His distinctive bony skull is similar to his depiction in other portraits. 3.The young King is Giuliano, younger son of Piero. So where then, are the two elder sons of yhe Medici Family? 4. Piero the Gouty stsnds to the right. He is supported by a young man on either side. a presumably realistic representation of a man who could no longer kneel. 5. Whete is Lorenzo? It is he. not Giuliano who is standing with his horse. at the far left of the painting, with his loving Agnolo at his shoulder. and his mentor Becchi instructing him. Lorenzo. at the date of this painting, was at only 17 years of age, about to set off on a diplomatic mission for the Medici to the King of Naples. Yes that does appear to be the artist zBotticelli to the right.
