Really enjoying your RU-vid content, particularly when you voice your thought processes and decisions.

Really enjoy all you do... Just wedge it. There is something magical about finding "where the bloke made good". I found that on a big house I worked on and it was probably done in about 1908 and I know it is there (wish I'd taken a photo) but probably it will not be found for another generation. Id add a wedge as well in that gap, you probably won’t see it unless you’re looking for it. Great content, Oliver, really enjoying it! Thanks!

A great plug for Festool hk85 . I reckon cut and rejoin the last section to hide the “ Bradshaw character “ but leave 90% of the half lap ? Think that keeps the strength and the aesthetic , one of many ways 😊

I would go with the Bradshaw character. Having seen you match stuff up, only you will know! Plus you you tube watchers of course HK is a beast

Decorative wedge for the gap maybe, the kind you used to see in kitchen table lower horizontal braces ✌️

continue the mortise width as a groove to the end and disguise as the throat of the mythical monsteer you will no doubt be carving as decoration for the end !

Another great video. I think a wedge matching the grain will work best. Looking forward to seeing you put it all in place. Cheers. Jim

To be perfectly honest, I think anyone making anything will have an internal desire to be absolutely perfect 100% in everything we make and do, however in this case I would have cut a block to fill the gap and if the client then noticed, make an apology and offer to take it all down again and recut it. I would bet that 99 out of 100 clients wouldn’t either care or notice. There is always another way of compromise, just don’t bring attention to something that is aesthetic and not structural. Loving your work. I’ll be hiring my chain morticer, having seen they are £1700

A drop of glue and sawdust mixture 🤓🫣😂

Hole patch: How about trim the tenon back 15 mm, then make a plug that is 10 or 12 mm plus the width of the extra mortise, and most of the depth of the mortise. Glue and maybe a pocket nail or screw (or dowel) to hold it in place. That gives you a plug and a nice solid edge to the mortise to resist any chance of the post wanting to tip.

Why not make the Bradshaw Character into a time capsule, put the video footage on to a micro sd card of way a patch is there, put the sd card inside and then add the wedge, who knows who'll find it. Great vlogs.

I’m almost thinking a sort of small stepped ‘bracket’ to ‘support’ that overhang…..😜 But there’s nothing else like it🤔 might have to run with the ‘character’ and do the awkward cut wedge. Edit: actually I might be onto something, try a little piece that mirrors the space left between curved brace and corner and see how it looks, and try a stepped version of same ( 25 mm from End steps down, goes in, steps down… get it? Take those two and the wedge to job and ask customer what they want ( if your fessing up, which you’re going to have to with bloody video!) That’s your Persian flaw mate! Tell them only god can create perfection, so to stay humble we need to add a flaw like the Persians did in their rugs ( I’m not having a pop at your brother going on about rugs btw!! Weh hey!😜😂. ( I’m as bald as a baby’s bum too!)

Whatever you add to that gap, add the same thing to the corresponding beam coming in at 90 degrees. Maybe a wedge or a simple corbel. As long as it's duplicated it will look totally planned. Only at the ends of the beams... not at every post. Great job but I know the only thing you will focus on is that gap. I'm just the same ;-)

When doing the install, are you going to let the customer knock the last peg into place. I am sure I read somewhere that's what used to happen when an oak frame house was getting built. Was meant to bring good luck or something like that.

Why not carve some small insignia (like Mouseman’s mouse) and use it to cover your unwanted gap?

So you have a machine for the installation, how dissappointing😢 i'd had visions of a massive wooden tripod & block & tackle, thick hemp rope & your brother pulling his guts out & you shouting heave, right a bit, left a bit, well it worked for the Egyptians on the pyamids😅 ive got to say tho ive really enjoyed how youve presented this project with the bite size videos

I know I like shorts as they match my attention span but I was disappointed when this post finished so quickly. I’d put a small wedge in that hole myself but who am I to give you advice? Also…. I was thinking of a carpenter’s pun but nothing woodwork. 🌞

Definitely a wegde. If it was 100mm I'd say different but for 10mm a wedge will be fine. If you hadn't put it on RU-vid no one would have ever noticed it anyway.

At the end why not just use a sharp cross cut handsaw, instead of 2 very expensive machines. It would take 2 minutes longer, tops.
