I'm so glad elden ring won, not only is it a great game and deserved it but everyone who has said "it's the worst game" is probably typing up an essay on twitter or making a hour long video on how it sucks, this year's game awards were good
Yeah 100% agree any other year god of war would’ve won imo they just happened to go up against the monster that is elden ring and that game is a monster all on its own, that’s not bashing GOW but elden ring had more bang for buck when it comes to content, god of war has honestly been the best narrative and story even though elden ring has some good lore but your not fighting Thor/ Odin.
The game that wins does not matter, there will be haters and people that praise them regardless. Your Elden Ring is not special, nor is gow. Every game has it's share of haters.
@@Dwivil neither should be considered untouchable. I see everywhere that even a little criticism is met by elitism from the fandoms, both are flawed. In my personal opinion they shouldn't even get goty in the same category since one is a story heavy game and the other has a much more roguelike feel to it, since death is in itself a mechanic.
@@xy-te9db I never said untouchable, just that each of them are special. Also Elden ring is not a rogue-like since those typically have random maps and random placement of enemies, souls-likes kinda made their own niche genre.

@@Thehunter905 54hours in play length, but if you want to play and explore everything in the game, average time to 100% is 130hours. My first play-through (to finish one of the story lines and explore map to 100% and get every weapon/gear) took me 145hours.

Mannnn people like Lucas make all of us look bad. As much as I love gowr, it’s obvious that elden ring has held its own weight throughout this entire year. That’s worthy for goty alone. Elden ring was the first single player game i put more than 200 hours in, that says something!
I woudlcve preferred if gowr won simply because i acaullty played it, while im not a big fan of froms games. But all the same, i can understand why it won and see the huge quilaty the game has, and i can respect it for what it is. Thats what makes us different then lucas.

Haven't played the game and i heard there's important dialogues and story through it but if it's really 40 mins that's crazy long. My thumb would hurt. Definitely would have to stop occasionally.

I tried Elden ring and it wasn't really my cup of tea simply bc i'm not into souls games but after watching many reviews and playthroughs I started to get why it has such a huge impact on the gaming community and I think it deserved goty.

Here’s the difference between Elden Ring and GOW Ragnarok. Give it maybe half a year to a year, and no one will be talking about GOW, whereas years down the road people will still be talking about Elden Ring. From new builds to stuff everyone missed this game will likely wind up having a staying power that rivals that of Skyrim. while i've only seen gameplay of GOWR and i would have accepted the lost if Elden Ring didn't win GOTY cause it won best RPG, GOWR didn't have the same amount of traction that Elden Ring did when it first came out. the amount of people who NEVER played a SoulsBorne game that looked at Elden Ring and said "i wanna play that" so many streamers that normally play battle royale games jump onto Elden Ring was amazing.
I always loved the argument that "Elden Ring, Bloodborne and Dark Souls don't have stories!" Apparently it's a bad thing that the games don't spoonfeed you the narrative. They absolutely do have stories, plot, lore, and especially characters. The first DS alone has so much lore and the characters feel like they're on a journey themselves, even when they move in and out of Firelink Shrine. It's one thing if you didn't care for the way its narrative is told, but to say there is no story is just wrong. I swear it seems like if a story is even remotely complex, it's just bad to these people. And even there was no story, the gameplay is still very solid.

I’m a part of the PlayStation Eco System love PlayStation and God Of War RAGNARÖK was amazing BUT Elden Ring was amazing and something we haven’t had in Gaming in a super Long Time and it deserves Game of the Year but really the real winners was us gamers because we got these two amazing games and more this year
i like how everyone who doesnt play soulsbornes bring up the arguement that "it has no story, it has no characters" while in reality they did not play the game (which is fine) and have no actual knowledge about it just that "uu hard boss game" while in reality its so much more than just a boss killing game. and they just wanna complain while they do not do enough research.
the fact someone can be too dumb to, or just not engage in Elden ring's story doesn't make the story bad. if you didn't care to look for it, you don't have to. That's on you not the game. ER's story is connected in item descriptions and conversations throughout, but it isn't required to be forced down your throat. Maybe that's lucas' problem? the game didn't explicitly tell him the story and he didn't care to look... therefore it obviously doesn't exist. if only there was an inner monologue of the tarnished as they shared their thoughts, aspirations and what they want for breakfast while walking for 8 hours. maybe lucas would have enjoyed it more
I don't understand how people thought GoW was going to win? It's literally the same as every other GoW game. Elden Ring took a chance and tried something new and different. Kratos just kills Gods and whines about his feelings like he always does. So revolutionary and innovative, how did they come up with that idea?
I love God of war and don't play Souls like games, but even I would have been surprised if it won GOTY. It got slightly touched on but the overall copy/paste of the gameplay and, in my opinion, the writing and story also dropping down a level means it wouldn't have been close to as impressive as the 2018 winner which reinvented the franchise and provided a great narrative. The fact that Elden Ring won just makes me want to give this genre a go myself But who am I kidding, we're here to laugh at a moron
This is what happens when ppl are so used to video games being interactive movies. "No story, no character" my ass. They become so braindead that every lore has to be spoon fed. And this is video GAMES, GAMEPLAY is what matters the most. Even in this regard, most games nowadays have auto jump, auto climb, invincible wall that prevents you from falling, etc..might as well just let the game play itself and you just sit back and relax. That's why elden ring (and other fromsoft games) is so refreshing..because whether they want to admit it or not, deep down they (i.e. those playing elden ring as their first fromsoft game) feel like they are really PLAYING a game for the first time in the last 10 years.
