Pretty good flick. Glad for the " Happy-ever-after" endings in these old films. I love the beautiful gowns, the stylish jewelry and clothing of this time period. So elegant and feminine revealing a figure without revealing.... Thank you for sharing.

movies today in our lack of morals society, suck. you like these movies because for all the reasons people list here but also because these movies have another lost quality, and that is CLASS.

I take my decorating cues from these old movies, how they pull furniture into the room away from the walls. It even works in small spaces, giving them a feeling dimensionaity. They really had a way with textiles and textures.

What an absorbing film, very enjoyable, I never watch modern films, they rely too much on swearing, nudity and violence. Thanks for uploading the film

so you have a rainy day, well, make a pot of tea, a grilled cheese sandwhich and a bowl of tomato rice soup, and a classy old noir film like this. makes a rainy day a good day. and I dont like modern films or TV shows either.

Much better than I expected from the Film Noir atmosphere to the good performances by all in the cast to the excellent cinematography to the unexpected twists and turns right up to the very end. A very enjoyable experience!

Fran Looving ..........Fran, what you have said , is what makes any film wonderful to watch . I personally have film favorites , that , few if anyone I know , enjoy as I do . But , to me , it's pure magic , there is definitely an atmosphere , or feeling to the story , that grabs you . The actors , do not have to be major stars , to win me over either ! I completely agree with your feelings , there's nothing better than a good film , with a great cast. Your comment is just superb !......

I always wonder,... Where are these old homes often shown in these old movies. I know most of them were just staged props but some surely were not.

NOTHING, beats these old classy B/W movies, nothing. they had style, they had class, the scenes that "glow" in the black and white, they just don't make 'em like they used to. these movies had stories, not swearing stunts and machine guns filling in for a lack of substance.

In these " film noir" movies they painted the scenes with light and shadows. I wish they could still do as good a job. 👍👍👍

This was an interesting movie. It was just nice to go with the flow for the moment and watch something so dramatic. The use of shadows, music and close-ups really leant to the film noir feel. I would recommend it for the fun of it. It is a romance film, though one with many twists and turns.

No matter how many, many years will go by, these are what Actors & Actresses were all about!! They give more than they do now a days, they got paid chump change only a few hundred if that in a week compared to millions that they make in today’s time and they don’t know how to perform like in the Good Ole Times of the Yesteryears

Great movie, kept us guessing. I just wish though that they didn't end things 'licketty split', and gave a bit more rounded ending. Like so many old movies, it would be an excellent candidate for a remake - but it would probably lose a lot of its magic too.

It was a pretty good movie right up until the bad guy pulled the revolver at first and then when it was knocked out of his hand is suddenly became a semi-auto handgun. But then when he shot the psychic, wallah! it's all the sudden a revolver again! That must have been some of that Supernatural Magic! Hahaha

paul bacchus- How is this film noir? There is no female villain in the lead. It's horror/suspense. It has a dark theme, but that is horror/suspense. Is that click bait?

SPOILER @@MelissaBrownapt215 there's an homme fatal, in fact there are two men trying to destroy a woman's sanity to get their hands on her money. all the hocus-pocus is a con, and its deconstruction is delightful, but there's worse underneath.

Good movie...spoiler alert, do not read before watching. At the end Janet should have told Alexis he was going to live and marry her. He saved Janet and Chris, they would have both died had he not fought to save them. He was a crook, not a murderer. She would have made him walk a straight path. He should not have died, he did not deserve it. It should have ended with her telling him he would not escape her that easily.

sure it's Noir: post-war con artistry that blurs the boundaries between well-to-do and underworld. lighting is sublime, as are camera angles, and cast. film ends in disillusionment just like SHADOW OF A DOUBT, after the murderer almost succeeds.

Why is the younger woman, Janet talking like an 8-year-old? It's beyond annoying and who really thinks a grown woman is charming with that Baby Talk? Why don't the Directors/ Studio hire a voice coach?
@jimmypeters

Goldwyn Pictures did just that, as Cathy O'Donnell originally had a heavy Alabamian accent, but that was her natural speaking voice, I guess they liked it as a change of pace. Much as Andy Devine and Sterling Holloway had long, successful careers in Old Hollywood with their unusual voices!

Awful movie! Completely senseless! One of the few film noir(if you really want to call it that) that is uninteresting. Only character actresses Virginia Gregg who is in it and I haven't identified yet might be good in it.

Sharron Potocki: Tell me about it(trash-estimated 90% nowadays). I might add there was plenty of trash in the 1930s onwards-I'm almost 70. However let me add a few wonderful old film noir which I'm sure you've seen: Hitchhiker, Too Late for Tears, DOA, Postman Always Rings Twice, Double Indemnity, Kansas City Confidential, Stranger just to name a few.
