I'm Dutch, born in 1956 and growing up with all the stories about WW2, I have always felt enormous respect for the British that have helped us throughout the war, and I had tears rolling down my face watching this program. I actualy lived in Lelystad for 15 years on the edge of the Ijselmeer, and seen them recover a Spitfire once. I now live in the UK near to Sywell Aerodrome where I've just seen the anual airshow where they flew a Lancaster and Hurricanes , Spitfires etc

Blessings to you and your fellow countrymen who look after our fallen and treat them with such reverence and respect - far more than they usually receive back home. Thank you. 👍

How he adds that the bodies were never found after all their achievements. He knows how much that last sacrifice meant knowing their spouse and children never got to say goodbye. Very well presented, filmed and edited. Well done Guy Martin team!

I’m in the Highlands. A lot of training for pilots went on here in WW2. At places like Evanton and Tain. There was a base for Catalina Sea Planes as well at Alness. The main cemetery in Inverness has many dozens of Commonwealth War Graves, but many were just trainees. Very sad when you read their nationality and age. They simply never got to go home 😢

I hope he is well! Have you been able to record any of his stories at all? I know some don't like to talk about the war as it's too upsetting, understandably. My mum is 94, but only has a few memories, one of being an evacuee and being sent to a farm where she got punished for eating an apple because she was hungry. Sadly, some people weren't suitable for taking children into their homes and lives.

@@andrewhaines3259 Unfortunately he is a man of few words about the war. I think he’s now 105 years old.

@@richardhewitt.easyvanlife.6957 If he served in the RAF and you know the squadron number it is easy to find out more ; Just google "operations record books" . That should bring you to a webpage from the National Archives . Then you simply fill in the squadron number and the year(s) you are searching for . You will then find the records from your uncles squadron and read about the missions he was on . All aircraft partcipating on a mission will be listed with serialnumber and/ or codeletters and for each aircraft the whole crew will be listed , including you uncle . The whole thing is free if you registre . If you dont know the squadron number I would suggest contacting the National Archives or the RAF Museum to find out. Good luck and greetings from Norway ; we apriciate what the RAF crews did for us during WW2 .

Watched Guy’s programme today! It was interesting and absorbing. Amazing how the Dutch recovered artefacts and the bodies of three heroes! I recommend viewing it. Guy has a new string to his bow. More programmes like these please! Cheers, Bob
