Thanks for this guide. Very succinct and the instructions worked, although I had to do the "restore to factory default settings" to get mine back to life. My Echo Dot does only a few things: turn on/off my living room light, tell me the weather and play my favorite radio station, yet I look forward to that voice that says... "okay..." and then does exactly what you want. Thanks again.

FOREVER UPDATING LOOP FIX --------- If your Echo Dot is stuck in an Updating Loop forever, do this. ON the Rotating Red Ring, press and hold MUTE and MINUS (Volume down) buttons down simultaneously for about 30 seconds until it says "Removing your SmartHome Devices" and then release them. Wait a bit and then when you press the Action button and your Echo will say "Now ready for Setup". Or you can unplug and plug it, and it will play the new Welcome Tone and saying your device "Is now ready for setup, go to the Alexa App". Go to the Alexa App and chose the bottom right icon for Settings and then chose "Add New Device" and chose "Echo Dot". You'll see it listed if detected via Bluetooth... pick it... and then pick your Wifi Hotspot for it to connect to as you've been through before. Tada... your Echo is back, but the WAKE Word has been reset to "Alexa" so you'll have to change it back to whatever you prefer, i.e. "Alexa, change my Wake Word to Echo/Computer/Amazon/Ziggy/Alexa"... This will last until the next Power Outage / Power Cycling of your Alexa at which point the dmmnn thing will try to update again and get stuck in the update loop like it did before. Still, you can at least bring it back from the dead until then. If your Echo Dot is stuck in an Updating Loop forever, do this. So suddenly my volume buttons are no longer working. Haven't found anything online yet that might indicate as to why and no it's not been wet or in a humid area. Any ideas?

One of mine keeps turning the microphone off on its own and staying red. I deregistered it and reset it with the action button hold down, etc.. it still just defaults to mic off. (It works fine when I turn mic on, but turns itself back to not listening mode within minutes. Ideas? Also, I saw some complaints about the fast talking of this video. I loved it. , to the point and covers what it needs to without the BS. I find most tutorials spend way too much time rambling and not getting the point.. so thank you for this one.

Based on your description, it sounds like you have already attempted some basic troubleshooting steps such as deregistering the device and resetting it, but the issue persists. There are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue: Make sure that the device is running the latest software version. You can check for updates in the Alexa app or by visiting the support page for your device on Amazon's website. Check the microphone settings in the Alexa app. Make sure that the device is set to use the built-in microphone, rather than an external microphone or a Bluetooth device. Try moving the device to a different location in your home. Sometimes the device may have difficulty picking up your voice if it's in a noisy or echo-y environment. If the above steps don't work, you can try factory resetting the device by pressing and holding the action button for 25 seconds. My dot 4th gen is suddenly unresponsive today, doesn't listen to me at all, then I dropped in on it, placed phone in other room, I can hear what is said from other side but i'm inaudible, I think mike hardware broke, I hope its just software but so far no luck, and astonishing fact is warranty just ended 3 days ago. UPDATE: after unplugging the adaptor itself for around 5 mins did the trick, it works just fine!!!

If it’s a dot you can’t if it’s a 4th gen regular echo then you need to go into the app go to the speaker and it will show a setting called aux there will be line in and line out if your trying to play from your phone via a cable choose line in

Hi Gianpiero. Im having the exact same problem with my echo dot 4th gen bought it over the wekend and after setting up notice the crackles sound only when turning volume up and down did you got a solution for this is it normal.

hi. I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but when you talk to alexa on the dot it has a slight hickup or slight crackle in the audio. It doesn't do that with music, just the voice or other sounds on it. I don't know if it's something that needs to be looked at or if everyone is just having this same problem.

Just found your page...good info.. Wondering if you have ever run into VPN issues with the dot? I have an echo dot paired with firestick setup in home theater mode so the dot provides the sound for my TV. Works great except when I start a VPN...than no sound. Used with Windscribe and ProtonVpn...same results, picture and no sound.

My Echo dot 5 setup mode is Shouting down on it's own once the Alexa App is looking for wifi connection to connect it with. I can't find any solution on the internet, I've tried with several resets and other devices to run the Alexa App but nothing helps. everytime I try to look for a Wifi connection setup mode shuts down.

Here are a few more advanced troubleshooting tips you can try: Check your router's settings: Some routers have settings that can interfere with the Echo Dot 5's WiFi setup process. Check your router's settings to ensure that there are no restrictions in place that could be preventing the device from connecting. Try a different network: If you have access to another WiFi network, try setting up the Echo Dot 5 on that network to see if the issue is specific to your current network. Check for interference: Other electronic devices in the vicinity of the Echo Dot 5 can cause interference with the WiFi signal. Try moving the device away from other electronic devices to see if that resolves the issue. Use an Ethernet cable: If possible, try connecting the Echo Dot 5 to your router using an Ethernet cable during the setup process. This can help eliminate any connectivity issues caused by the WiFi signal. Check your device's power source: Make sure the Echo Dot 5 is plugged into a working power source. If the device is not receiving enough power, it may shut down during the setup process. Check for any external factors: If you are trying to set up your Echo Dot 5 in an outdoor area or in a location where there are a lot of walls or other barriers, this may cause difficulties connecting to the wifi. Also, other electronic devices running on the same frequency range as your router can cause interference. If none of these solutions work, it could be a hardware issue with the device and you may need to contact Amazon customer support for further assistance.

@@crystalcrystal3986 I found that this only happened when the alexa was connected as a speaker to my PC, via audio jack. (the audio jack on Alexa has 2 modes. You can either use it as line-out for headphones, for instance, or as line-in, to use alexa itself as a speaker, connected to another device) So with Alexa connected as a speaker to my computer, if I suddenly connect to a bluetooth speaker, such as the JBL Flip, when I disconnect that bluetooth speaker, the sound will be disconnected. The solution to this is: Just unplug the aux cable jack again, connect the bluetooth speaker until it starts sounding from Alexa and then turn that bluetooth speaker off again and this should move the sound to the echo again. If it doesn't solve the "no sound" issue, unplug power cable for a few seconds and plug it back again. and this should resolve the issue. If these two solutions don't work, just use the "Alexa Restart" voice command. Either way, it always has a solution, so don't worry.

Here are some troubleshooting steps and advanced tips you can try Restart your Echo Dot: This can often resolve any temporary software glitches that may be causing the issue. Check your internet connection: Make sure that your Echo Dot is connected to a stable internet connection. Try re-registering your voice: Go to the Alexa app, then Settings > Device Settings > Echo Dot > Voice Recognition > Deregister Voice, then re-register your voice by following the on-screen instructions. Check your account settings and permissions, make sure Alexa is authorized to access your microphone. Test your microphone: Make sure that the microphone on your Echo Dot is not blocked and that there is no background noise. Train Alexa with multiple phrases: During the voice training process, try saying a variety of different phrases to Alexa to improve its ability to recognize your voice. There are a few things that can cause this One possible cause is something wrong with the power supply. you can try checking the power supply connector for corrosion or damage. If that does not help, you may need to replace the power supply. Another possible reason is a programming error check to see if there are any issues with its firmware or hardware. and dont forget amazon support.

There are a few things you can try if your Alexa is staying muted even when you push the talk button: -Try turning off your Alexa by going to "Settings > Alexa" and selecting "Unsubscribe from channels". -Try refreshing your Echo or Echo Dot. -Try turning on "Alexa voice commands" in your Amazon account and then trying to speak to your Alexa.

There are several potential reasons why an Echo Dot device may be unable to find Bluetooth devices. Some possible causes include: The Bluetooth device is not in pairing mode. Make sure the device is in pairing mode and within range of the Echo Dot. The Echo Dot's Bluetooth feature is turned off. Go to the Alexa app, open the Devices tab, select your Echo Dot, and make sure Bluetooth is enabled. The Bluetooth device is not compatible with the Echo Dot. Check the device's user manual or the manufacturer's website to make sure it's compatible with the Echo Dot. The Echo Dot is not up to date. Make sure the Echo Dot software is up to date by going to the Devices tab in the Alexa app, selecting your Echo Dot, and checking for software updates. The Bluetooth device may be too far away or obstructed by walls. Move the device closer to the Echo Dot and ensure there are no walls or other obstacles blocking the path between the two. @@URTechInsight have tried all of the above nothing works the dot does not even show up on any of our phones in a bluetooth search . Other echo devices 3 echo shows in the house have no issues. Speakers trying to connect to are edifier r1855db

@@costroch Have you tired a factory reset? Locate the reset button on the Echo Dot: The reset button is a small pinhole located either on the bottom or the back of the device. Use a paper clip or similar object to press and hold the reset button: Press and hold the reset button for around 20 seconds, or until the light ring on the Echo Dot turns orange. Release the button: Once the light ring turns orange, release the button and wait for the Echo Dot to restart. Set up the Echo Dot again: After the Echo Dot restarts, you will need to set it up again by following the on-screen instructions. You will need to connect to your Wi-Fi network and complete the registration process with Amazon. It's worth noting that factory resetting the Echo Dot will erase all settings, configurations and data, that you've setup previously. All custom skills, timers, alarms, etc will be deleted and you need to reconfigure them again. If none of the above steps solve the problem, it's possible that there may be an issue with the Echo Dot and you should contact Amazon's customer service for further assistance.

@@URTechInsight I shouldn't laugh but have tried factory reset. But had to smile when you said follow on screen instructions. There is NO screen on the echo dot!!! And whenever I find a video saying issues solved for echo dot they simply say use app to connect to bluetooth speaker and simply pair!!! Easy peasy if the bloody thing could find anything. It cannot find and cannot be found by any other device in the house. I think someone forgot to put bluetooth in it!!
