I love the fact that this was a gamechanger. They took 3 very dangerous enemies at once and forced Lucien and Cree to do it all by themselves. Imagine the Cognouza fight against a Cree but with the rest of the TT...It would have been way harder

After reading the Nein Eyes of Lucien this scene hits this much harder when you remember that all of these people used to be Luciens close friends and in a half second he knew he had to abandon three of them to die...and then Fjord fuckin executed one of them while keeping eye contact.

The added music in this video made me realize how much of an avengers moment the mighty nein had after popping out of the tower… The activating shock gloves, Eldridge blasts, everything else… It was very much a “camera circling the avengers“ moment

I don’t know if Jester is a living embodiment of Freudian psychology or the living antithesis of Freudian psychology, but it is one or the other.

I'm not a psychologist, and Freud's theories are largely debunked, but I think that because Jester's chaotic use of dicks and sexual imagery is an intentional choice rather than a compulsive or subconscious one, the Freudian notions of repressed sexuality and desire don't really apply to her. Freud was writing at a time when repression and propriety were societal values, and Jester was raised in an environment where neither of those things were necessary. All of Freud's sexuality work that I've seen simply... doesn't apply to her. One notion of Freud's that worth discussing is the presence of id, ego, and superego as they pertain to literary and character analysis, which as an English major I might be more qualified to discuss. Jester has a surprisingly robust superego and strong moral sense. She's shown to be aware of the proper and polite thing to do in most situations, and has an understanding of power dynamics and how to subvert them. She just often chooses not to follow the superego in favor of her own desires, or in favor of subverting the superego of others. Arguably the one of the Nein most dominated by id is Nott. Taliesin has praised Sam's performance of goblin temperamentality and impulsiveness, and Nott (much like Caleb) is very much governed by past trauma, anxiety, and a new set of emotions/responses born from her transformation.

Anyone else fell like elves get shafted in home games since one of their main features are half time long rests? That's one ability that you rarely get to use.
@orioninfernal7269
@orioninfernal7269 3 года назад
Its useful for covering night watches, they can effectively cover 2 of the 4 long rest watches, alternatively they can do other stuff like make potions or forage for food, my party's bard is an elf and they always cover first and last watch, first is solo and they keep an eye out, last watch they have another person with them and they prep breakfast since they have some ability or feat or spell or something that provides a buff but takes an hour or so to prepare. Basically, you only get shafted if you cant think of a good use of your time.

@@orioninfernal7269 They're also immune to charm effects which is pretty dope
@invidiousone3662
@invidiousone3662 3 года назад
They actually don't get half long rests. The trance only allows them to get less sleep so they can take more of a watch (which isn't strenuous/interrupts a rest). Warforged don't sleep at all, but they still require a full rest in order to function, for instance. Matt's interpretation is a common mis-ruling. (which he is absolutely free to do, just like the "wizards can wear elven chain" thing.) The offical 5e Sage-Advice corrections back in 2015 clarifies that the intent was not to reduce rest time, but that one could rule it that way if they wanted.

They knew the rangers wouldn’t be able to stall for 3 hours, they should’ve woken up and got into position so they could have more counter spellers ready
@companyoflosers
@companyoflosers 3 года назад
none of them could be in the room where the enemy landed, the little mine things they had set have a range of 300 feet. their positioning would have been the same.
@pauciloquentflibbertigibbe5217
@pauciloquentflibbertigibbe5217 3 года назад
Travis wasn't hoping for enough time to finish a long rest and was more hoping that the rangers could bloody up the tombtakers a bit, so they would either be injured when they entered, have less spells/healing potions, or maybe even be forced to take a rest themselves before entering, which would definitely let them all finish a long rest.
@pauciloquentflibbertigibbe5217
@pauciloquentflibbertigibbe5217 3 года назад
It's also worth noting that it was a group of rangers, so none of them would even know counterspell. The best move probably would have been for Fjord and Essek to tell the rangers to target Kree specifically, the only nonmartial class but also the most valuable of Lucien's followers. Not only did they stand the greatest chance of actually wounding her, if they had it would have been almost certain that they would have taken a short rest before continuing. If any other member got injured, its pretty likely that they'd just forge ahead and rest later, which may have been what actually happened considering the fact that they pretty much oneshot the Goliath bloodhunter.

Omg Fjord made a big mistake going for the kill, he could went for Cree or at least that backpack and they wouldn't go anywhere. Well mistakes were made....
@arthaiser
@arthaiser 3 года назад
is always so easy to know the right play once it happens... travis actually played very well. he was not going for the kill on zoran, he was positioning himself near lucien to counterspell a possible dimension door. he used killing zoran as an excuse to do that sneakily, the same way that scanlan did with vecna in C1. but matt caught up to it. going againsts cree inside the antimagic field is only good if you manage to kill her in one round with a non-magical weapon, plus lucien was for sure going to use the maledict to make it even harder on fjord to acomplish that.
@alexanderblack5274
@alexanderblack5274 3 года назад
He already had used all his movement to get to the fallen Tumb Takers, and eldritch blasting Cree probably wouldn't be enough to down him. The moment Lucien called out to Cree I was 100% sure they were about to resurrect them all, so going for them at the heir most vulnerable and making sure they can't get back up it's the smart thing to do. Fjord got screwed because Lucien could use LA to move his vision which he hadn't done up until this point.
@owenkrzywda2128
@owenkrzywda2128 3 года назад
fjord was trying to get into position for a counterspell outside of Luciens anti-magic cone, but he moved the cone with a legendary action. this video doesn't show it but travis said he was trying to do what sam did against Vecna w/ a counterspell

I was annoyed matt let them get away.. I mean... i understand that the group made a good ambush and it wasn't part of his plan but c'mon.... In what fight would he let someone in the party, in one round, pickup a huge crystal -- drag it 20ft -- AND then cast a spell?
