Every winter, millions of Amur Falcons migrate from their breeding grounds in southeastern Siberia and northern China, all the way to southern Africa. They make India a temporary layover to replenish their energy reserves, before continuing the long journey over the Arabian Sea. I visited the Sahyadris of Western India to document this spectacle.
At a round trip of 22,000 kms, the Amur Falcons are one of the longest migratory raptors in the world. Some argue that they might even be THE longest migratory raptor. This claim, however, awaits further tracking data.
