Here, Will and Adam from Acid Horizon engage in a discussion on a simultaneously well known and largely overlooked enigmatic figure in the history of German philosophy, idealism and its discontents, and even insurrectionary anarchism, Max Stirner. The discussion provides both an in-depth look at Stirner’s core philosophical commitments and the intellectual milieu within which and against which he toiled. What is at stake in Stirner’s The Unique and its Property? How are we to understand Stirner’s heterodoxical approach to anarchy? Excellent discussion. I have dipped in and out of,’The Ego and it’s own’. Never understood a word of it. But I feel that I do have an outline now, thanks to your guest. I have often mentioned Stirner to people whilst speaking about Marx and usually no one knows what Stirner is on about.

I've got a few book on the young hegelians/romantics and what not. Quite interesting stuff at a period when science as we know it was still in its infancy. Its all quite relative.

Weeeeell, I'd argue that science actually is not so much in its infancy as are what we nowadays call humanities. It's a time that still tries to adhere to a unity of scientific method (of nature, history, religion, ethics and law) and has to become more and more advanced in order to defend this holistic reason. Scientific understanding and methodology was actually quite advanced already and I'd argue that there is not a really great shift in methodology or heuristics between then and now in the sciences. Ultimately there will be the break between scientific method and Humanities as "Sinnverstehen" and all this stuff later in the 19th century, but this moment in history (idealism, junghegelianism and ultimately also dialectical materialism) reaches quite dizzying heights of the project of oneness of understanding the material and immaterial world.
