I remember reading that Thorek (I think) before he died, called his runes to open the gates of Valaya. But I don't understand why he did this if he, and the dwarf host, were already beaten and he just let Neferata get to Valaya. Did I read something wrong, or is it just more Endtimes tomfoolery?

You really should get yourself a copy of the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 1st edition. All of this info as it was originally told (and a far better version of the history) is covered and was first created there by Graeme Davis, Phil Gallagher and Jim Bambra and also the two Realms of Chaos Tomes (Slaves to Darkness and The Lost and the Damned). This is the version I grew up with. All of the lore GW produced from 4th edition WFB onwards was based on this work and depending on your opinion changed for the worse. The original Warhammer World was not nearly as high fantasy as the WFB depiction. Still, all the information you are so interested in is laid out there in a far better way than the later version. Worth a look for younger fans.
