It's almost like they turn back into Andy and Barney again on Matlock and the other two actors have to be just in awe over Andy and Don's chemistry on the set.
What's so cool about this is we always wonder what grandparents were like in their youth this kind of shows how they looked when they were younger Vs old age it's actually cool when you think about it
@Thomas Lucas Why don't you chill out? You're 44 - the oldest millennials are about 40. So if you're stereotyping them all as these 18-25 year-old gender-confused, safe space slackers then you should catch up. A good portion of them are already raising families and are pretty independent.
I saw an interview where Andy said he and Don eventually realized his character just didn’t work on Matlock and they wrote him off. I agree...they were the best together on The Andy Griffith Show.
i also love how Don's characters name was Les a take on his real name Jesse , Andy called him Jess they compromised on the name im sure. Don didnt like Jesse but because he could get away w/ it and he knew it, Andy called him Jess.
Looking back I didn't realize how hot the blonde was on Matlock, great scene done again some 20 years later, I wished I had the temperament of Andy Griffith when he was sheriff of Maybery, he hardly ever raised his voice, every. Ow and then barney flustered him
Besides the Benj/Ange connection, notice that Don's character name is Les, which may be another homage to Don's real first name Jesse. Andy used to call Don "Jess" just to rile him up as he hated his real first name.
Actually to be honest, I thought it was funnier on The Andy Griffith Show, I guess if you were someone who didn't watch the Andy Griffith Show and then saw this scene from Matlock that it would be funnier. It was cool though that Don Knotts guest starred on Matlock. The other day I saw a clip from Matlock where Don Knotts character drove right into Ben's driveway in a DeLorean and gave Ben the peace sign.

It's not really meant to be funnier on Matlock it was really meant to be something fun for the fans for nostalgia sake. Matlock's not a sitcom like TAGS.
