Saw his face just once, live, at the Hell's Angels' Rock Weekend - 3 - 5 December 1998. Doc Neeson - the Mad Irishman - came on just on midnight. When he opened his mouth and let out a deep Bass-Baritone voice .... my jaw dropped.... instant LUST! Unforgettable, even though we will, alas, never see his face again. R.I.P. Doc - LEGEND!
In 1985 as 16yo I remember standing on a bar stool in the Charles hotel 'rocking out' to the Angels (Yeah. not good but is what it is 😐). By the mid 00's I had three primary school daughters. We had an angels CD or two in the trusty 'ol VX and I taught my daughters that it was "No way. get lost, rack off!". They used to scream it at the top of their lung which always made laugh. The best bit was when they got to their late teens and realised what the real chant was... They were in shock and horror that i would do that to them!!! I LMFAO! 🤣
Vale Chris Bailey, genius bassist, 1950-2013. Australian rock is the best .. :-) Played this at a high school talent night many years ago. You can probably imagine the outcome...
Saw Doc Neeson and the Angels at an impromptu gig on the Goldie at the Playroom (I think it was). Needless to say when they played this the place went off!!!
I have loved the Angels, or as we knew them here in the US, Angel City, since the first time I heard the US version of “Face to Face. In fact, I just listened to the entire album, showing my age, this morning while working out. I still think it’s great and one of the best albums out of Australia, right up there with AC/DC’s “Powerage”
Hey Happy 50's bro...You know when ever I mention Angel City,an Aussie comes on and tells me the whole story.lol..Gotta give em Credit,ACDC and I feel bad Angel City should of got their Dues here..Cheers..
Saw them with Dave Gleeson [Screaming Jets] as the frontman last night. Dave gave a fantastic performance, can't fault him, he got the energy just right. Noone can replace Doc of course, but Dave honours Doc's memory by keeping his music alive.
"Holy Smoke" the movie brought me here!! We’ve seen The Angels, are you ready.......... for the Devil? This should be our national anthem (im Aussie BTW) in case anyone questioned it
@OrochiAngel666 The Angels and Status Quo actually got along quite well, some even playing in bands together (The Bombers). If u don't like a song try saying nothing rather than making a stupid comment. The Angels are one of the greatest bands ever and would never have intentionally used another bands riff. Check out their other songs and hear the great stuff they have written. Otherwise don't leave negative comments.
This brings back memories of The Stagedoor Tavern in Sydney where the roof seemed that low that when Doc was going off that his head would nearly hit the roof.
i wish the fuckin radio would play this heavy version and not the older lightweight version which is quite boring - this heavy version is one of the best songs ever.
With thanks to Netflix new series. BOY SWALLOWS UNIVERSE. Found this song n it made me like n save to a playlist. This made me think of myself and my daughter x
The gentleman on the front was a good friend of mine who is caravanning to go see his kids in Adelaide then back to his house in Sydney just found out that he passed just a couple of days ago to my good friend John Glase.
One of my best bands hand best songs ever going to see your face again no way get f f off The Old Maid doc may you rest in peace mate we all together one day and I know you'll still up there somewhere singing that song with big crowds around you roasting piece mate❤❤🎉🎉❤❤🎉
Roland Seipel. The inspiration for the song came when the Angels were touring the USA in 1976, a good friend of the band had a motorcycle crash, and died a few days later in hospital. The song is Doc's account of those last days. Also the wailing guitar at the intro and outro of the song, represents the rushing ambulance.
@@yeahimere9631 It was the girlfriend of a good mate that was killed in the motorcycle accident in South Australia. And Doc and his mate were chatting about life after death and so on, which inspired Doc to write the lyrics. Nothing about "those last few days". The song was originally an acoustic ballad about grief and loss in general.
Thousands of songs use this chord pattern. It only uses three chords: I; IV; V. Is it similar to Status Quo's song? Certainly. That's not surprising; there are only a finite number of ways you can arrange 3 chords. But chord patterns can't be copyrighted. The question is: "what makes this song different from Lonely Night"? And the answer is: practically everything. Riff, rhythm, melody, arrangement, tempo and lyrics are all quite different. Prefer Quo? No probs. Prefer Angels? No probs.
Quo's management sued successfully, requiring a professional in identifying similarities in songs to agree that this song was based on "Lonely Night". I agree that everyone is free to like whichever version they want[1], but your comment implies that this song isn't very clearly inspired by the other song and that's incorrect. [1] It's a mismatched comparison though. "Am I Ever...?" was basically The Angels' biggest hit. "Lonely Night" was barely a Status Quo B-side. Having your biggest hit successfully sued for plagiarism is pretty embarrassing.
@@e-knockpower7808 You keep going around spinning a BS story. The Angels were NOT "sued successfully" over the song. it didn't even get to court, fool. 🤣 Both bands simply reached an agreement where Status Quo got some of the royalties. And, in fact, the guys in both bands were actually good mates. The lyrics are not the same, and that is what makes this song the classic that it still is to this day. So take your fairytale and bitter, jaded hate elsewhere. And stop spinning sh*t.
Was there a Film on Doc N???Sorry to ask,am a yank..We dont get much on these guys ,sadly...I remember them from my youth, but a few years ago,my friend GilleDee (DJ adelaide),shared them when Doc passed and I remembered faintly and cant stop listening now..
@OrochiAngel666 I have no problem with a healthy argument about something like this, whether I am wrong or right (btw The Angels demo'd this song in 1974), however you can put forward your argument without being rude.
Alright. Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again was released 1976 and according to you Lonely Night was written in 1972 and released in 1983. How could they have possibly stolen something that hasn't been released yet. And like I said a lot of Status Quo's song use the 12 bar blues pattern, do you even know what that is by the way?
