After researching and investigating cryptids for forty years, it's rare that I come across one I haven't heard before. This is one of those times. I'll probably spend the rest of today doing it. Thanks buddy! I love this stuff!

The Angola Horror wasn't a simple derailing. It was due to inconsistent rail gauge widths in the United States in 1867 and that trains with "compromise cars" were routinely allowed to traverse them. So New York Central operated the the usual 4 ft 8+1⁄2 in gauge but the cars were allowed to go on other tracks with the slightly smaller width of the Lake Shore Railroad in Ohio since their "compromise cars" used a special wheel axle that had a mechanism that would allow them to change width with the different track gauges. In this case the NY Central New York Express train of four baggage cars, one second class car and three first-class cars were on their way from Cleveland, Ohio to Buffalo, NY. At about mid-afternoon, the train crossed a "frog", that is a railroad track junction switch, which allows trains to switch tracks and in doing so it apparently damaged the axle mechanism of the rear car and the car derailed, swinging wildly side-to-side. The brakes of the train were quickly applied, but it was too late and as the train crossed the bridge, the rear car decoupled and fell down into the icy gorge, another car also derailed. But fortunately, it managed to roll across the bridge and into an embankment. Only one passenger died in that car, but the car that crashed in the gorge caught fire when the stoves came loose allowing the hot coals to spill, setting everything ablaze, and things only were made even worse by the kerosene spilled from broken lamps. Only two people made it out alive, the other 48 were burned alive for a total of 49 dead from the two cars. The reforms that followed led to standardized track gauges, more secure heating and lighting systems, and faster braking mechanisms.

Motel Hell not Hotel Hell. It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent's fritters. Although Texas Chainsaw Massacre never had a pig man, the sequel involved the same family who sold barbecue. It was made using the other white meat, and I'm not talking about pork.

speculation on my part, but maybe pig man horror is rooted in the fact that pigs will eat people if given the opportunity and there's that subversion of an animal we typically eat eating people.

I actually drove through that tunnel few weeks back visiting friends that lives in the area..i knew nothing of the history or story about this train tunnel at the time, it definitely has a weird vibe feeling there and to add to it the tunnel is only wide enough for one vehicle to pass through it ..that to me is unsafe I'm surprised there not alot of head on Collisions in there. I grew up 20 minutes from here, and spent many october nights driving down that road. Definitely a creepy place. I never heard that he was deformed, or a hybrid half pig, half man. Just a butcher who put pig heads on spikes to keep people away from his land (and later slaughtered people wearing a pigs head as a mask). It is said to be haunted by the victims of the train accident as well, which was in the 1860's. The pigman story wasn't around for another 100 years or so

Sure, i'd like to see some local legend content. That being said: 1. Be careful. Beware of uneven terrain, potentially crazy local people, narrow roads, bad juju that makes your spidey senses tingle. 2. I figure you're all set already, in the sense that, for years you have been doing what you do so well. You have a good eye for new ideas and always provide viewers with a variety of subject matter, so we stay interested.

This is a local legend that occurred in Angola/ town of Evan’s New York. Categorized as an urban legend, honestly the story’s beginning was Angelo Pignati, an elderly widower. The story has been written and rewritten so many times, the true story was lost. Some say Pigman was a butcher and has the taste for blood. For me I am from Hamburg the town to the north. I grew up in the 1960s and 70s, never heard of it. There was a novel that was published on the pigman story. Angola was settled in the early 1800s and the railroad came through in 1852 and in 1867 was a train wreck in 1867. In the past 200 years anything could have happened. With television, it was a new way to say boo! Most communities will have urban legends, I have always like reading about Urban Legends, their origins, but I dismiss many because many are explained. With Sasquatch young people are drawn into it easily. I knew of this teenager that said she was on Clinton Road in New Jersey. That’s an interesting story where this old pickup will chase unsuspecting cars. Many of these stories can be explained. I believe there was a Mr Pignati, he lived a long time ago, was a character and died.
