Thank you for all three episodes of the complex and sorrow history of my homeland. The longest series so far, which can mean something (especially for the sorrow part) when one will have a 2nd thought on it. That doesn't mean Poles are the chosen ones, unique or whatever but, just to have a little humble look from our East & West neighbors would be much appreciated. We are not worse (not better too) than for instance the West-Europeans think of us (servants, thieves or whatever) as we are sometimes considered within the EU. I'd say we are the biggest losers after the II WW even though we standed among the winners (in some instance thanks to them & their predecessors). Lost the most of people (%wise - almost 20%), economy was ruined and as a reward for our patriotic attitude towards Hitler we received 50 years of communists economy backwardness from Stalin. It hurt sometimes that not many people realize & appreciate our II WW involvement, sacrifice and how we got kinda left behind and forgotten in the end.

Dat Fishe Boi We tend to be super bitter about the so called western betrayal in the Yalta Conference and onward, and place most of the blame for it on Churchill, when in reality it was Roosevelt who was more to blame, and the circumstances of course. Still completely bypassing the Polish government in exile while negotiating the future of Poland with Stalin, agreeing to pretty much everything the bastard wanted, and not even having the courtesy to inform their allies that they are already fucked and nothing can be done about it, was a shity thing to do.

Even more modern Polish historians (at least those not on the government's payroll of course) agree that the Pope's role in bringing down communism was nowhere near as crucial as many had credited him back when he was still alive. Sure, the 1979 Kraków mass was a big PR stunt but the roots for Solidarity had been laid before, in the mid-'70s when the first illegal organizations defending workers' rights against state abuse were established. Also, the reason why the 1980s protests succeeded was because of the experience from the previous decades: whenever workers went on strike, intellectuals stayed silent, when intellectuals protested, workers didn't care. So everybody wanted to make sure the entire society would be on the same page this time around.
@saintsone7877
@saintsone7877 2 года назад
@@yarpen26 Yes, it was a huge PR stunt but also a huge bonding exercise. No doubt those at the Kremlin knew at that point there was NO way they were going to stop Poland gaining its' freedom from them one day. It became very clear on that tour that there was no stopping the march towards freedom and it was no longer a matter of IF but WHEN.

Yes, yes and that's why he had them in his immediate surroundings, eg in the form of a Mexican priest... JPII was the same as Franciszek, who supposedly established a special commission, but this one does not work and is only a façade. In addition, the JPII appointed a saint of a man who was responsible for the brutal treatment of the Indians even if they did not morg them. Like the fascist theologian Josemaria Escrive de Balaguer y Albas

My grandfather was from the area of today's Vilnius. His family had a choice, either to be Polish and to leave or stay and be in the USSR. As a small child with the family, they rode in an animal carriage. He also talked about soldiers who had been cursed as they had to steal food from civilians to survive. Hardly anyone dared to help them because they did not have much, and the next day the KGB came to the village and accused them of help. Sorry for my English :)

I wish I could still talk to my From Poland Family members. My Great Grandma had multiple birth certificates with different data. She single hndedly took care of the majority of the lineage and for most part of the 20th century she did it without a man as he passed away somewhere near 45 years before her. She never remarried but managed to raise 12 children, and many of those childrens children as well.

There are some things in animation off (like student protesters in 1968 using slogans... exploited by communists against the protesters), also Operation Unthinkable was being considered in the final phase of WW2, not later. But there are also certain little snacks I love, like (seemingly generic) returning memebers of Gov.-in-Exile. Ryszard Kaczorowski, the last President-in-Exile (sadly, one of 2010 Smolensk crash victims) really looked like that.

He is only technically a "Polish president" as he was only acting president after collapse of PRL, before first true election.
