I switched from Google Nest Doorbells 30 days ago, installing Aqara G4 Video Doorbells on two entryways. Our house is like Grand Central Station. People, packages, cars, dogs, etc. Here's what I've learned - as an average, real life user - about these Aqara doorbells.

As with any device, the user gains familiarity with it over time, and after installing two Aqara doorbells, I have come to view their value and usefulness with a different eye.

One of my biggest smart home issues is the everyday usefulness of the items installed. If we are constantly having to make adjustments, we either won't use the device or we will switch to something easier.

How about you? How much do you value local storage as an option? Do you mind paying monthly for video history?

I have a question about the privacy areas. You say it only allows you to select three boxes on the grid. Isn’t that three areas (connected boxes) and not just three single boxes?

So, I went back and looked. I have 3 areas blacked out, and that is actually 6 boxes. I cannot add any more area to any of them, but it’s ample to exclude my neighbor’s windows.

@@volcolby yeah, after commenting I received mine and could verify that you can create 3 rectangular areas as blackout zones. You probably need to delete an existing area and recreate it if you want to add more to the area. BTW: I noticed that the Apple Home app also allows you to create activity zones that supposedly influence the areas HomeKit uses to detect movement. That could also be an interesting option.

@@chrismartin8103I checked out the HomeKit settings and it does offer a better option, especially if you draw the area and then invert it to be the exclusion. Thanks for the input.
