Listen to this man , he brought me so far in this hobby I now have 2/125 gallon a 75 and 40 that are thriving and crystal clear. For almost 2 years now . Thank you Sir. 🤘💪. Got to meet him at Aqushella Chicago last year. As nice in person as he is in his vids.

I agree my aquarium water quality was very poor until following the guidance in his videos! With his methods, my water is now crystal clear and I absolutely know what to do when things don’t go as expected! I am contemplating at getting a sump pump because of his videos now! 😂😂😂

Prime is great. But learn how to use Seachem Safe. It will save you a ton overtime. Seachem Stress Guard Is also another good product. If your tank is cycled only use stability after cleaning filters and/or adding new fish or during a new tank start up. I have been in the fish keeping hobby for about four years. Seachem water treatment products have not let me down thus far. I stay away from filter stuff like Seachem Purigen or other like products. To me they are a waste of money (use carbon when needed). Learn your tank/tanks. Do water changes when needed. Feed your fish and don't over think it. Repeat, Do water changes when needed. Feed your fish and don't over think it.

Started off with a 75 gallon African cichlid tank because of Kev! Now i have a 225 gallon African tank and American cichlids growing out in my 75. Just ordered a custom 180 which will be here in January for the Americans forever home. Might have to turn that 75 into a salt water tank! Looking forward to your future saltwater videos Kev! Loved the comment that this channel will make you get into huge tanks! MTS is real. Thanks for everything bro!

Hey Kev. Long time subscriber. I've been in the hobby almost 50 years and have done everything in freshwater from monster Oscar tanks down to nano community. One saltwater tank in the 80's. I'm very happy to hear you are getting into a reef tank. I'm going to do it with you. Been considering it for a while now. Thinking about a Red Sea reef system. I will wait until you get a few videos in then get started. Good luck.

100% 🎯🔨 No one says it better than Kev, and one of the best parts about Kaveman is that it’s all facts he is speaking, and His experience in this lifestyle. I remember I started with just two small skirt tetras and two sword tails in a small tank, 2 days later you already know what happened I lost 2, because I didn’t even know what the nitrogen cycle was and my fiancée wanted a couple fish, but i went straight to Kaveman aquatics after my loss, I learned about the nitrogen cycle and I think out of everyone on RU-vid Kaveman explains it the best. Man I got MTS so fast 💨 😂😂upgraded that small tank and figured out how to set up a tank the right way and bypass a bacterial bloom everytime, He has assisted me into keeping 50+ fish now I’ve lost count at this point. tons of live plants, checking my nitrates weekly, and getting rid of nasty parasites💯 if you want a go to youtube channel, this is it. Also I can’t wait to see what you do with that salt water tank 🐠 yeah that’ll go hard 💪 You’ve really came so far, and I love to see it ❤

But also as Kev mentioned for beginners you can also add fish to your new tank using Seachem Prime or Seacheam Safe with Stability. To those that are curious and just new to the hobby it can be done with those methods. Check out his videos on how he does it. 😀

I plan on putting in a piece of drift wood and a rock of some sort I plan to bring back from vacation. I know to add the background before the substrate but, I was wondering if I should add the driftwood and rock before the substrate as well?

@KaveManAquatics This hobby isn't very beginner friendly. Everyone and their dog has a channel these days making cookie cutter videos. Repeating bad info over and over again. I have some questions so bare with me please. I recently started a 30 gallon aquarium. I have sand, an LED light, two live plants at the moment (moneywort and anubis,) a hob aquaclear filter, and a water circulator. In the process of getting a heater. Im doing a fish-less cycle… trying at least. I added the water 4 days ago that I treated with API aqua essentials, along with the right dosage of stability. Since that day, I’ve been dosing stability everyday as the back of the bottle says, planning on doing this for the 7 days. I’ve been adding a pinch of pellets every few days that are all sitting at the bottom expanded, deteriorating. I’ve tested the water yesterday and today with the API freshwater test kit, yet my ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are all 0. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or if I’m missing a step. Super confused. I’m thinking by now I should see some form of ammonia from all the “rotten” food at the bottom of my tank, right? Is this just the API aqua clear and stability working and already got rid of the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? Or are my two plants feeding off of the nitrate and that’s why I’m seeing 0 on the test? Not sure but doesn’t seem right to me. Anyone let me know your thoughts. Thanks so much

Love your channel!!! This has been so helpful! I’m currently 2 years into the hobby and have a 37 gallon tall. Currently have a 55 gallon that I’m wanting to set up soon but will be changing the substrate, any ideas on an inert substrate? I’ve heard some horror stories on how changing your current substrate could affect water chemistry {ph, GH,} have this super ugly gravel I’m dying to get rid of! I have some seachem prime and stability I will be using and using my old hang on back filter, will this be enough BB to cycle my tank instantly for within the next couple of weeks to add my fish day I set up?
@KaveManAquatics
@KaveManAquatics 10 месяцев назад
Your cycled media will instantly cycle your new tank, yes. And the addition of Prime and Stability will make the transition even safer. Yes changing substrate in a young tank can be detrimental depending on how much bacteria is already in your original substrate. But again, the Prime and Stability are going to keep your tank safe even with new substrate...I use a great looking whitish pool sand that does nothing to the waters chemistry. (and its cheap) You can find it in my shop 😊 - koji.to/kaveman_aquatics

Hey, i got 2 questions which i don't see mentioned anywhere. First, how often should i add fish food to produce ammonia andd what should be the level of ammonia for the bacteria to grow optimally? Second, you said the tank is cycled if ammonia and nitrite is 0 and there's some nitrate. How long after adding the food should i measure this?
@ReelHardFishing
@ReelHardFishing 10 месяцев назад
Nice videos man, but there is def signs that there is ammonia spike in tank. First, stressed fish not eating, second is redness near more delicate parts of fish and last possible cloud from bacteria bloom due to ammonia spike.
@KaveManAquatics
@KaveManAquatics 10 месяцев назад
All of those that you mentioned can be caused by other things as well. My point was, the tank can be crystal clear, fish eating with no problem, no redness anywhere....and then they'll be dead from ammonia poisoning. Clean and clear water and fish acting normal does not mean the water is healthy for them. That was my point.

I wondering how long it will take for Ammonia and Nitrites to get down to zero. Im a little confused. I'm not sure if i should do anything or just wait, i guess patience eh. Thanks buddy

Hello! So im doing a fishless-cycling on my 90 g tank, im on day 10. I just tested my parameters and it read 0 Ammonia, 1 ppm Nitrite, but 0 Nitrates (it read 5ppm of nitrates about 3-4 days ago but randomly disappeared with no water changes). Idk whats going on but should i add more ammonia? Or should i just keep testing my parameters and wait it out the next couple of days?

I'm trying to do a fish in cycle and I found out something interesting. When the ammonia spikes to 1 ppm, I do a 50 percent water change (using tap water) and use API Stress Coat. The ammonia doesn't come down even though I did water change. But, when I use spring water, it goes down to 0 ppm. I thought that was interesting.
@KaveManAquatics

First, you shouldn’t be water changing while trying to cycle. Watch this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9Cuqylaak3E.html Second, your source water could have ammonia.

For people who do not speak English as a first language, I think it would help at 2:02 if the chemical formulas were written next to the common names. Ammonia (NH4), Nitrite (NO2), and Nitrate (NO3) will probably help you to reach an even bigger audience.

I have a 91-gallon saltwater tank I converted to a cichlid tank 2 years ago. I had some teras in the tank and 3 goldfish, I recently (6 weeks) bought 10 peacocks from imperial tropics and two weeks ago I bought another 6. I am seeing that some of them are not eating, it started out with 2 and 4, I am not seeing any sunk in belly but did see some white poop a week ago and didn’t take it on. I am not sure what to do with the tank or fishes. I tested the water, and all the perimeters looked good ( used an AOI test kit). Please guide me through this. I don't want to lose the fishs.

Not eating and white poop is usually a sign of internal parasites. Sunken belly is a sign seen after the parasites have done their damage for quite some time. To be safe I would treat the entire tank to make sure you get rid of the parasite! No live plants yet. Ammonia is 0.5ppm , nitrite and nitrate are 0. I've done two 20% water changes over the past 5 days and added Stress Coat and Zyme. I'm just unsure at the best way to get through the next few weeks until the cycle is done. Do I keep doing water changes? If so could I remove too much of the ammonia that the nitrogen cycle needs... arrgghhhhhh, I'm so confused.

Great video. There is no simple way to put this question. I messed up big time. I was trying to lower the pH in my American cichlid tank after a big water change. I wanted to drop the pH from 7 to 6.7. I miss read the instructions on the sea chem acid buffer and ended up dropping the pH from 7 to 6. After an hour or so I immediately noticed something was definitely wrong. I tested the water and found out my mistake. I immediately took measures to correct but the damage was already done. My arowana suffered the worst of it. His front tenticles are gone. He is on the mend and I think he will be just fine but I don’t know if the front feelers will grow back. I understand my mistake and that I failed as a fish keeper in this circumstance. Hope you can answer my question Thanks

So I did fish in cycle..... Ph is good. Ammonia ✅️ Nitrite ✅️ Nitrate ✅️ Use seachem prime to make that ammonia safe for the fish for a short time. Boost your cycling process by adding stability to get more bacteria for that ammonia and for the nitrite. I hope my fish survives this ammonia and nitrite cycle. I am also putting some plant food. They say that it contains nitrite or nitrate so I might wait a week to see how my water parameters are. And continue to add prime and stability everyday for a week then water change.

I'm really looking forward to learning why saltwater tank keepers only do 10% water changes while freshwater keepers do much more than that.
@KaveManAquatics
@KaveManAquatics 10 месяцев назад
Im not 100% sure just yet, but I think it has a lot to do with not fluctuating parameter's as coral are much more sensitive than fish. Also in Saltwater tanks with sumps, you really want to try and grow anaerobic bacterial colonies that can help keep nitrates down to a minimum.
