Karl Bollers is one of the vast multitude of Archie Sonic staff that contributed a lot within the lore of the series, but barely gets any credit for what he did. I'm glad someone finally covered Karl Bollers on this platform, he seems to get lost between all the discussions of Penders and Flynn, even though he was just as important as those two. I agree with your conclusion, his writing was a mixed bag (though I'd argue every Archie Sonic writer was a mixed bag, including Flynn), but I always appreciated his attempts to push the emotional core of the series to greater heights. I also really liked Mina as a character, I just always found her charming and likeable (the "She's Gotta Have Him" story really cemented her in my mind as one of my favorite Archie original characters).

For me Penders, Bollers, and Flynn have a commonality in their work. Their best stuff was their early material, and their later stuff was just poor. Bollers was at his best from 1997 - 1999 Penders was at his best from 1994 - 1999 and Flynn was at his best from 2006 - 2011

Naugus's magic likely affected kodos and spider lady because they were in the zone of silence and are therefore affected by naugus because he was protecting them too

Unlike most comic writers whose best work is in the middle of their run, I think Bollers best stories were in the beginning and the end of his tenure. I'd say issues 62-78 and 122-141 were the most consistently good comics in the series before Ian Flynn took over.

For me his best stuff was in the late 90s. it was a great time for the comic despite a few duds. The early 2000s was a mixed bag, The worst stuff being in 2001 and the best being 2003. and the mid 2000s was when the comic fell into a rut. To be fair it wasn't his fault (mostly).
