This was one of my favorite scenes from my childhood when I was 7 years old, I laugh every time at 1:35 when Roquefort says "quiet." I used to have this on VHS tape, Edgar got what he deserved in the end but you can't help but find him as one of the funniest Disney villains who's extremely wisecracking.
@@oddish4352 I know that, i'm just saying it's funny how Edgar also stopped cause: One: He's the bad guy so who would stop when a good guy demands too. two: He's human and they're animals. As far as we know, the humans of this movie probably can't hear animals communicate in english.
Well the thing with villains is they're not only very nasty but also not very bright. One reason why he became evil and tried to get rid of the cats due to the fact the he would have got the fortune after the cats were gone was because he believed in the myth that cats have nine lives which is not true.
Jude Law or Ralph Fiennes would do a good job of playing Edgar. If there was a TV series based on that motion picture, Ralph Fiennes or David Shaughnessy would do a good job of voicing him.
And to think even though Edgar kinda got what he deserved in the end, He was also one of the few Disney villains that were actually in the right all along because looking at it from Edgar's point of view he worked for the Madame for God knows how many years and all of a sudden she's leaving her fortune to her cats? that's not quite fair especially since hello, they are literally animals i mean what are animals gonna do with all that money? I mean i'm not saying Edgar deserved her fortune either but still.
Nya, the situation is even more unfortunate than that. Duchess and the kittens inheriting the fortune is a mere formality, basically to make sure that neither Edgar nor some hypothetical person Edgar married after that kicked the cats out of the mansion. In theory that also gave Edgar an incentive to continue taking good care of them. Edgar would have the role of administrator of the money and in practice he could spend it on whatever he wanted as long as the cats were well cared for. Madame Adelaide believed that Edgar would immediately understand her intentions without her having to go into detail. Unfortunately Edgar is not as insightful as she thought. Edgar believed that Adelaide was humiliating him and that, even more than the idea of receiving the inheritance, brought out the worst in him.
I really wish in this movie that Madame finds out that Edgar was behind all this with her cats. Since in one book about this movie she finds out and gets Edgar fired for that, then he leaves her mansion for ever.
I like how Edgar does not seem to be extremely cruel. It would have been easy for him to just kill Duchess and her kittens, but instead, he chooses only to kidnap them and release them into the French countryside; when that doesn't work, he decides to ship them to Timbuktu as well as when he fought Thomas O'Malley with a pitchfork, he uses it to restrain the cat instead of impaling and killing him. This means that Edgar clearly has a better sense of morality .
It was unknown where he was taking them to in the beginning. And his intention was not to kill them. I mean he would of trap them in the chest in the shed to take them to timbunktu in the beginning. But he never did until the ending.
Edgar is a totally evil mean and cruel villain. They don't know how to take care of themselves in the countryside so they would have died a painful death out there. And they were going to die in the trunk on the way to Timbuktu. Edgar didn't want to be blamed directly, that's all. What a crap weasel!
Seen it! Brings back memories, funny part I liked was when Roquefort was trying to guide the ally cats to help O'malley, that man drinking saw and thought he was hallucinating. Something I noticed at 2:15 when Edgar got kicked into the trunk. The mouse Roquefort removed that combination lock earlier during the fight, so when Edgar got trapped inside, how did the combination lock got back onto the trunk when the trunk slid out of the barn? Unless one of the cats threw it back on when the trunk was in motion... just spit-balling something minor.
1:15 LOL!!! That gasp sound effect also used in Winnie The Pooh and Tigger Too and The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh as Rabbit and Pooh's gasping.
It is quite understandable why Edgar wanted to get rid of the cats but he should be happy he even has a job. Especially a job that I’m sure most people would kill for.
Edgar probably got out of the trunk not long after, there’s too many people would have heard him through handling the crate along the way. Afterwards he probably returned straight to the mansion as there is absolutely no suggestion anyone knew what he was upto apart from the cats
In a German book adaption, it is revealed that the crate arrived in Equatorial Africa (it is not specified whether it is Equatorial Africa itself or French Equatorial Africa) where Edgar was arrested for illegal immigration.
One year later, but Edgar is 50 something years old man who got kicked unconscious by a horse and put in a sealed chamber, with the early 1900s medicine, he probably died.
Now that a live-action Aristocats has officially been announced, here’s who I would personally like to be cast in it: •Jeremy Renner as Thomas O’Malley •Marion Cotillard as Duchess •Vivien Lyra Blair as Marie •Julian Hilliard as Berlioz •Jett Klyne as Toulouse •Hugh Grant as Edgar •Helen Mirren as Madame Adelaide Bonfamille •Anthony Hopkins as George Hautecort •Andy Serkis as Roquefort •Imelda Staunton as Frou Frou •Matthew McConaughey as Napoleon •Woody Harrelson as Lafayette •Hayley Atwell as Amelia Gabble •Emily Blunt as Abigail Gabble •Peter Capaldi or Richard E. Grant as Uncle Waldo •Jamie Foxx as Scat Cat •Vincent D’Onofrio as Peppo (The Italian Cat) •Liev Schrieber as Billy Boss (The Russian Cat) •Johnny Depp or Sam Claflin as Hit Cat (The Hippie Cat) •Ke Huy Quan or Ken Jeong as Shun-Gon (The Siamese Cat)
Fun fact: in The Jungle Book and The Aristocats, both Phil Harris characters (Baloo the Bear and Thomas O'Malley) are fighting the antagonists (Shere Khan and Edgar Balthazar)
I think Edgar's fate was quite harsh on him. I'm pretty sure he's gonna starve to death in the treasure chest because the way from France to Timbuktu is very long.
Actually Edgar has multiple fates in the end, because from what i read in one story book adaption of the film the Madame fires Edgar and in another one after he arrives in Timbuktu and is found in the trunk he gets arrested for illegal immigration.
Actually from what the travia says on this page on Disney Wiki stated that he most likley died from lack of air cause there are no air holes in the trunk at all. So if he manages to have the Cats get sent away they would have suffered that fate.
So... Madame can hear faint meowing outside at the door of her mansion (when the cats return)... but she cannot hear the mess at the barn??... So odd that she didn't come into scene as all this happened.
Okay, I know Edgar is a greedy snob wanting the money once his mistress is gone. But at the same time..........who leaves money to cats? What would cats want with money? It's just dumb.XD
There's a French billionaire, Karl Lagarfeld, who actually decided that his cat Choupette would inherit his fortune when he would die. When he passed away, Choupette indeed became the fcking richest cat in the world
I know that Madame loves her Cats more then anything and Edgar doesn't fully deserve the fortune but what would the Cats do with the Money ? Also even so Edgar would still be in charge on what to do with the Money since he will still care for the Cats but he would still be able to live a damn good life since taking care of Cats isn't that hard. So Edgar is kinda stupid thinking that Cats have 9 lives is true.
Looks like Frou Frou was a big help to O'Malley and his longtime alley cat buddies. Not to mention that Roquefort helped out as well. And it looks like Toulouse was showing Edgar his toughness, too.
Disney used to reuse lot of the animations. Even in this scene, 0:28 and 1:13 are the same animations. Also the horse whinning at 1:09 was used already earlier in the movie when Edgar swapped her with a newspaper. At 1:51 when the cats are shocked, that animation first appeared in the alley, when Roquefort told the cats about Dutchess and the kittens being in trouble. At 2:28 it is the same animation after the cat family and O'Malley escaped the milkman, with a different background. And of course Tolouse hissing also happened at that part, and also before the painting scene.
Edgar: "You're going to Timbuktu if it's the last thing I do!" Me: (angrily, slapping him) It isn't they're if you do, it's you're if they do, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?!
My siblings and I were watching this on TV one day when our mother poked her head through the door and asked what we were watching. I told her it was about a group of cats kidnapped by their mistress' butler after discovering she was leaving them her fortune. My mother simply said "Good", and left the room.
Did Edgar even know who exactly was going to receive the trunk with the cats inside? Was the recipient supposed to know the combination to the lock? If Edgar knew who exactly it was going to, what did the recipient think to find Edgar inside instead of Duchess and her kittens?
When Edgar phones a baggage truck to haul the cats away to Timbuktu, what kind of truck (and what kind of people) is/are that supposed to be? Is it supposed to be based on the truck for one of those organizations that people give their used goods to by placing bags of them in front of their house for the organization to come and take and the organization sells them to thrift stores like Savers? If not, what is it supposed to be?
