jpowers55 - depends on your definition of ‘sucks’. His first year in Arizona in 2006 he had 1,156 rushing yards. HOF Emmitt Smith’s first year in Arizona in 2003, he had a whopping 256 rushing yards in 10 games. Edge’s second year in 2007 he gained 1,222 yards while HOF Emmitt had 937 yards in 2004. Emmitt scored a total of 11 rushing TD in 2 years while Edge had 16 rushing TD in 3 years. Edge rushed for 2,895 total yards in 3 years for an avg of 965 yards per year while HOF Emmitt had 1,193 total yards for 596 yearly avg. You do the math. I’m not even mentioning the fact that Edge had 74 receptions while HOF Emmitt had only 29 receptions. Numbers don’t lie. If your reasoning is that Edge doesn’t deserve to be a HOF because he ‘sucked’ for his 2nd team, Arizona - then Emmitt Smith should have never been elected in. GO COLTS!!! 1-0

I mean to be fair to that defense, they lost two games against the Pat's in which the final score was 24-14 (Pat's had a safety and last minute field goal) and another game where the final score was 20-3. Then the following year lost to the Steelers where the final was 21-18 at home. Then the following year in 06, the defense pretty much carried them throughout the playoffs. Outside of the AFC championship game. More often than not, colts lost playoff games because the offense didnt show up like it usually did.
@jnkjnk-ye2gu
@jnkjnk-ye2gu 5 лет назад
Out of 9 playoff losses for the colts with manning, I believe the defense only gave up 24 points or more twice (superbowl 44 defense gave up 24 points. Pick 6 iced the game) I say 24 simply because that is a 3 score game. Not trying to cherry pick a stat. Other than that....the defense did more than enough to keep the offense in the game. Like I said, offense usually choked in the playoffs for manning and the colts. Now situationally, I can agree with you.
@ludasik06
@ludasik06 5 лет назад
As a Colts fan since 96. Our defense was basically built to protect leads. That’s what the Tampa 2 is basically. The last team to dominate with a Tampa 2 is the early 2000 Bucs. And that’s because of all the talent and all pros they had on the defense. Colts had a small back seven all those years Peyton Manning was here. The only all pros we had was Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, who were DEs. And Bob Sanders who couldn’t stay healthy. And when all were healthy we won a super bowl. If we got down, it was hard to come back most times because our defense was probably the worst run D in the history of football. And because of that, also, they would keep Peyton off the field, with no rhythm. So if we go 3 and out or something, Peyton wouldn’t see the field for another 7-10 mins. Excuses, yes, but it is what it is.

@@beginostrich7619 I hope the Colts lose because I think the charges are going to lose to the Patriots. And if the Patriots win and the Colts knock-off Kansas City everybody knows that the Patriots are not going to lose the AFC title game in New England and I don't want to see the Patriots in the Super Bowl. I don't got nothing against your colts, I just don't want to see the Patriots in the Super Bowl. I would like to see the Patriots take their ass on the road in the playoffs for a change and have to win a road playoff game especially considering Tom Brady is 5-1 at home in the AFC title game and in that one home loss that the Patriots had in the AFC title game the Ravens in 2012 had to play a Flawless game.

Forgot how good that Chiefs O-line was back then. They were blowing the line of scrimmage back 3-4 yards on every run play. Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson were both good RBs, but that line was mauling the grown men in front of them! Hated them, but respect.

Know what's crazy ? In dan marinos break out year he had identical numbers to Mahomes , if mahomes gets to the afc championship or super bowl THIS YEAR it would be like watching dan marinos 1984 season all over again, so something to watch

Except that the league back then wasn't a complete shit show and way less pussified. You could actually hit the QB and not worry as much about penalties. Defenses were actually allowed to play defense. The league sucks now
@smc4600

Elias Ayala Mahomes ended with 50 to Marino’s 48, and Mahomes also had more yards. Mahomes is also carrying an absolutely atrocious defense, so it would be way more insane if Mahomes can pull it off, which he will.

Proof that peyton was just as much a legend in the playoffs as he was in the reg season. Would finish belicheck and ne in the same position a couple years later to eventually own them in the playoffs for the rest of his career.

He didn’t “own” them. He was able to go to any team he wanted to as a free agent and picked the Broncos who had great receivers and a top ten all time defense. The beat the Pats because they had a better defense and didn’t have to face Gronk in 2013

2003, Peyton Manning's first MVP season. He got his first two career playoff victories. He threw for 8 touchdowns and 0 picks in those two games. I remember thinking that Peyton is playing too well to lose to New England next week. Instead, He's completely neutralized throwing for 235 yards 1 touchdown and 4 picks. Just goes to show you how difficult that dynasty was to beat in those days

I remember this game as a kid, easily one of the best I’ve ever seen. I was so disappointed that the Chiefs lost, I wanted the Pats to play them. The fact that Priest Holmes didn’t win MVP over Peyton Manning or Steve McNair was borderline criminal.
