In this video, I'll be walking you through my process for color grading videos in Adobe Premiere Pro. This is the exact process that I use to color grade all of the videos you see on my channel. We will look at how to use Lumetri color, curves, and HSL Secondary to create dynamic and visually appealing footage. Whether you're looking to add a pop of color, create a moody atmosphere, or just enhance your footage, this video will teach you tried and true color grading techniques!

nice video. i dont use hsl secondary, i mostly use the hue vs hue, vs sat, vs luma and i use the color picker. i would look more into the hsl. it seems much easier, but im not a fan of stacked layers. anyway Thanks!

There are times one will work better than another, but HSL can be a very powerful tool once you get use to it. Totally understand not wanting to use stacked layers, I use to do all of my color grading in Resolve back when Lumetri was still a separate program and so I am use to more of a node based workflow. I really hope Adobe implements a better way to have multiple layers of color correction on a single clip, but I'm not going to hold my breath lol.

Awesome video. Do you have best export settings?

Appreciate that!! Depends on what platform it’s going to. For RU-vid I use Premiere’s built in 4K RU-vid export setting with Maximum Render Quality checked and bitrate set to 150Mbps. For Instagram or other social platforms I will use H.264 with 35-50Mbps. I have messed around with H.265, PreRes422 and 4444, but there is not enough of a bump in quality to warrant the added storage space and upload times for myself.

Very interesting when u show off the colors difference. I'm newbie so maybe my question may be stupid but, isnt LUT just like preset from lightroom, so in the end LUT and editing are the same, just LUT it's like professionally done?

Not a dumb question, you are correct, LUT's are often created and sold in a very similar manner to how Lightroom presets are sold. The main problem with this is they are usually marketed as a one size fits all solution, but the effects of different LUTs on footage can vary wildly based on several factors. Things like different color temp, camera type, log profile, time of day, shooting style can all make using LUT's very challenging. What might work well on one clip might give you a completely different look on another. That is why in this video I talk about using technical LUT's and not so much creative LUT's. Technical LUT's are created by manufacturers to give you the most natural look to your footage. Having this base means you can either add creative LUT's or go through HSL and curves to create the desired look you want. I sell LUT's and use them regularly to save time, but understanding how to create a look from scratch is important so that you can get the most out of your footage.

@@JasonPischke thank you, always going with a way of understanding of the mechanism so was surprised someone takes LUT as must but now I get it as it’s part of ur workflow. Thank you very much for this answer!

Do you add sharpening in camera? I didn’t see you do any sharping in post.

I typically don’t add sharpening, most lenses these days are so sharp that I haven’t felt the need. Occasionally I will find a shot here or there that is soft, but that’s about it!
