Another note as someone who has worked on podcasts and vlogs before: He should read his 'essay' sentence by sentence, and if there are any mistakes or stumbles, re-record that section. It takes a little longer to edit but the payoff of having a word perfect and clear presentation is a big one. Otherwise great entry to Caspian Report, hope to hear more from him in the future.

Presenter needs to speak more smoothly, and with more emotion. Another thing: ratjer than saying "uh" when you don't know what to say, leave a pause, it sounds better and is less noticeable. Even a basic background theme at low volume would help make this palatable to the RU-vid audience. Very good quality overall, it's like watching a college class, very useful.

Ryan Ward It is interesting though how the US became the world hegemon without having to fight a third World War. It certainly wasn’t exactly peaceful, but I think Bretton woods was one of the greatest geopolitical moves the US ever pulled off and it gave them defacto hegemonic control of the west without having to directly fight ailing colonial powers. Ofc this is after fighting the largest war in history, but it was also followed by the largest ‘peaceful’ takeover in history. The US didn’t become world hegemon by colonial conquest as every empire before had, but primarily through leveraging overwhelming economic strength which is a more peaceful solution then the great wars fought between colonial powers.

A very absorbing lecture on the fundamentals. Appreciate the very idea of imparting this information.👏 A thought occurred when trying to understand the definition of power -- desired goal. So it appears to me the actor with desired goal is only chasing materialistic acquisition...so in other words affluence qualifies as power. This is my understanding from the lecture.

weeeeell - not so much. Air is a termedous boost for a power projection - but you can't fly forever. That is the basics prooved by US recent wars - you can make a mess with aircraft, but until you haven't got boot on the ground - you can't control the territory. That's why land powers are more durable than sea powers.

The major powers can distance themselves from the smaller more radical groups extreme actions. I'm now thinking the removal of Saddam was just to destabilize the region to allow greater powers a better ability to struggle without outrage in their home countries. A way to remove pieces on the board without declaring a war for empire this or that. Gone with statecraft, on to corporate boardcraft...

I don't know why the assumption is made that the only way to claim "ownership" of a region is by war. In fact, I would take it one step further and ask, why does there need to be a concept of "ownership"? Is it really true? Is this not just a concept? What if we adopted a model of responsibility and made claims of "custodianship"? Meaning, people who find themselves in various parts of the world, could work together to find the right balance of living on earth.
