Japanese tattoos tell the stories of Japan: historical samurai, folklore, legends, and religion. To artists like Taki Kitamura, Luke Stewart, and Horitomo, it’s a conduit for Japanese culture and tradition.

I find Traditional Japanese tattooing is more of an art than a style, because of the amount of rules to it, the undeniable artistry to it, and the beautiful of the art that comes out of it. There is so much meanings to them that they translate and show stories with each one.

What are the standards of art? Unlike Ainu tattoos, it is a culture with a history of about 250 to 300 years. Started to show off among people. ( soruce japanese wiki) And the tattoos featuring character figures are derived from classical Chinese novels(Water Margin). Novel characters are represented by tattoos.

Most all tattoos are in art. If you can look at a photo it's an art or a video game as an art or a painting is an art, you can look at an image that a tattoo artist created and that absolutely is an art

In Japan, "Irezumi (tattoo for criminals in the old days)" and "Bunshin, Monmon, Horimono (tattoo as fashion)" are two different things. Both are translated as "tattoo" in English, which causes misunderstanding. Historically, "Horimono" was popular among firefighters, carpenters and express messengers(Occupations that show skin). However, since the 1970s, in order to eradicate gangs that have become rabid, "Horimono" has been discouraged for the general public.

the way the japanese traditional do tattoos, with the tebori, it makes those tattoo pop like crazy, also they don't fade as much over time. I hear they are really painful to get, and some of the ink can cause health problems, but i guess it is worth it if you can endure all of it.

Thank you, this was very informative! The ways in which Japanese tattoos and (tattooing) differ from ones I know are so exquisite. This is something I would love to do. I would REALLY love to get permission and be selected to have a hand-tapped full sleeve. That's a dream of mine. The only problem is that I do not know if it would be appropriate for me to get a traditional Japanese tattoo, because I'm not Japanese. I don't know if that would dishonor the culture and the art of tattooing. I guess if they select me as someone to do a hand-tapped traditional sleeve then it is not.

I got 51 tattoos I've been getting tattooed since 06. Since 2018 I've been getting a tattoo one tattoo if not more a month for 4 years. I haven't even missed a session in 4 years. Now a lot of tattoo artists tell me that in their opinion cuz I see a lot of tattoo artist when I get tattooed and their opinion tattoos have originated in Japan. And then the Americans going to Japan gets tattooed in Japan. After the movement in Japan a lot of shops opened and follow suit with the shops that originated in Japan. Tattooing is a big deal it's been going on for probably since the first of mankind. My grandpa was born 1928 when he was 17 and 45 he got a tattoo only one though. I could never just get one tattoo. These professional tattoo artists like me they say I'm a good person so they only charge me $100 for a tattoo. 300 $400 tattoo it only cost me $100. A figure if I go to them more and they're making less they rather have me as a customer. That's why I got so many tattoos

@madbrah8361
@madbrah8361 6 лет назад
Well to be fair, Japanese tattoos are literally the art and history of Japan pulled from the old books onto skin and are strictly based off lore and culture. Demons are a very large part of the history and the art, and you cannot change it. Hence why Japanese style tattoos have very strict pairings, such as what flowers can go with what fish or dragons.
