Metal conduit is used extensively in the UK for electrical installations in commercial and industrial projects. When connecting conduit to an electrical enclosure, you often need to form a double offset bend.
Here's how we do it

I'm happy to be across the pond in the USA where I can do that with a hand bender in half the time, and probably in emt rather than ridgid. And I dont know if it was just for the video, but there is a much easier and quicker way to get your marks for offsets.
@patrickd9551
@patrickd9551 Год назад
Yes and in main land europe, we just bend pvc conduit and spend half your time (so 4 times as efficient as this video) not worrying about burrs and not connecting earthing straps to every piece of metal. And the really big stuff, we don't even worry about conduit, the cable is good enough :)
@stephenkaczmar
@stephenkaczmar Год назад
@@patrickd9551 We can bend PVC here too and run some of our cables open to the air. In my opinion metallic conduit, if done correctly, looks better and more professional. There's a 100 ways to skin a cat, and neither one is wrong. Most electrical RU-vid channels are British based, so I've seen a lot of installs and my jaw hits the floor every time I see single conductor cables slapped up on block and those tiny panels. That kind of work would never fly over here. But it's obviously safe, and that's how it's done over there and normal.
@TheEulerID
@TheEulerID 2 месяца назад
@@patrickd9551 It is not good enough in an industrial setting, like a warehouse where a high level of mechanical protection is required. I have the cable in garage in PVC conduit, but I would not want to see is used in a warehouse or factory where somebody might bash a trolley into it.
@patrickd9551
@patrickd9551 2 месяца назад
@@TheEulerID Well it might surprise you, but we don't do that here in the Netherlands. cable tray, or cable ladder is pretty rugged enough. We also use decent cables that can take a hit. For single drops we just use 5 core cables inside PVC conduit. But I don't think the conduit here is the weak point you are looking for. It's the massive OSB wall that will be very much destroyed if you want to impact the cable in any significant way. In which case you have a much much bigger problem.
@TheEulerID
@TheEulerID 2 месяца назад
@@patrickd9551 I see I'm not dealing with the most perceptive person in the world. It's obvious to anybody with half a brain that's what is used in this video demonstration wall. It's used for training purposes and is obviously not a real installation. A real installation wof this sort will use a masonry wall or be mounted to structure steel. As for cable, then the UK uses essentially the same types of cables construction available in Europe, where appropriate. Cable trays are, of course, used too, for the right application, such as a data centre. Metal conduit is concerned, it's used in special locations where PVC is not considered to reach the required level of protection. To quote :- "Metal conduit is a specialist tubing system designed to protect electrical wiring. It’s generally used within walls although it is also a popular option for exposed areas susceptible to impact due to its durable construction. Steel conduit is able to withstand extreme temperatures and has a high load bearing capacity, making it ideal for use in hazardous site conditions in the industrial and commercial sectors." PVC conduit simply is not able to withstand anything like the impact that steel conduit can. It's a very high quality, extremely robust method of running cables in very demanding environments. I should add that there's another option, which is to use mineral insulated copper cable (MICC), which is even more specialised and high quality. That can operate continuously at 250C, and will operate for at least 3 hours at 950C, and is used where operation is important even in a fire. It is compact, and can withstand being hit by a hammer. If you are happy with lower standards, then that's up to you. To emphasise again, these are for very demanding situations.

At the end of the day this is safer on your back and piping always takes time.And it makes sense if you’re making a lot of the same bends.What’s the difference between bending each at a time or just writing all measurements out and then bending them all and just start throwing them up. Just better for the mental state and the condition of the back if one has back issues.Time difference I’ve noticed pre bending all bends are way quicker.
