Wow, I had no idea Richard Thomson was so afflicted and in a wheelchair. Loved his work for years.

Yes, Parkinson's is such a B-word. I have been re-reading the comics, they remain fresh and funny!

What a tragedy to lose such a talent during his prime...a great loss for cartoonists.

I'm sorry. been out of touch. didn't know we lost him. rest easy, rich. cartoons are hit or miss for me, despite how well or how badly they're drawn. Richard's work is exactly what I like to see in cartooning. it's a major hit, always.

After reading that comment i don't very nervous. I love to draw my own comics and cartoons, but I'm afraid that I won't be as good as the cartoonist I look up to.

What a talented, lovely and brave man. I stumbled upon this accidentally due to the English songwriter and guitarist of the same name (another huge and under sung talent), but am now very much a fan of this Richard Thompson. My best wishes to everyone supporting him, and my thanks for his gifts to the world.

Wonderful piece on this amazing artist & cartoonist - always been a huge fan & follower ... I am a cartoonist by love (not trade) too & was diagnosed w-MS same year as his Parkinson’s diagnosis and can no longer draw/create ... makes me feel like I am not alone 😉

I have been in the DC Metro area for 30 years, and I remember when Gene swapped roles with Richard Thompson. Sunday section of the Washington Post. Good times.

Great little documentary. This inspired me to write a poem about the need for all creative people to create now, don't wait for later. You don't know how much time you have left. Beautiful and sad documentary, but I'm glad I watched it. I've never heard of him and his art is just brilliant, such talent. RIP Richard, your art will live on.

I ADORE Richard's work!! Since I discovered him, I've been on the hunt to track down a copy of "Richard's Poor Almanac". Alas, no success as yet, except as an online comic. Hoping one day it will go to reprint!

His work is reminiscent of Pete Searle from the 1950s & '60s please see Pete Beard's The UNSUNG ILLUSTRATORS. To take nothing from Richard. He does have a predecessor of similar genius. Respectfully yours Gregg Oreo Long Beach Ca Etats Unis

Richard Thompson is SO great! CUL DE SAC is the LAST great newspaper comic strip that ever will be...and it is one of the best that ever was. As great as is Bill Watterson and as was CALVIN AND HOBBES, Thompson and CUL DE SAC are better!
