This week we're talking with Ian Pratt, contemporary artisan, about the Art of the Longrifle. This is a pretty wide subject we're talking about this week, but Ian brings some interesting insights to the conversation. This episode isn't so much about the technical nature of Ian's work, it's more about the influences and thought processes he goes through to create contemporary art using a flintlock muzzleloader as the canvas.
It may get a little funky for you, we go back in time pretty far, but this is definitely one of my favorite conversations from the show. Thank you again, Ian, for coming onto the show to chat with me.

I was blessed to meet Ian at the building class at Jim Chambers. He was a great instructor and a great guy all around. Thank you so much for all your help in getting me started in this. I hope to be good enough one day to pay it forward.

I remember meeting Ian Pratt at one of the early CLA shows in Lexington, Ky. It was just as he was breaking through as a new artist to watch. He had his wife's small rifle on display and I was thoroughly intrigued with the gun, even though it seemed to be quit plain. There were little details that peaked out, like it's handmade, southern style trigger, chip work around the grease hole and it's delicate side plate. Thanks the interesting podcast. It provide insights in to he man I could not get from just chatting at a gun show.

Ethan, I really really dig this podcast. I can relate with your grandpa with the photography. I’ve been shooting wet plate collodion with a 100+ year old camera for a few years and shoot flintlock for the same reason. It’s surreal to feel that connection with those people back in the day. To think that I’m using the same processes as my forbears. It’s a craft and art that demands one to slow down and be deliberate. To really think before you pull that trigger or shutter. I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast! (The snippet from the T-Rex podcast lead me straight to this one). Thanks, Ethan!
