Jersey Joe Walcott - Was an American professional boxer who competed from 1930 to 1953. He held the NYSAC, NBA, and The Ring heavyweight titles from 1951 to 1952, and broke the record for the oldest man to win the title, at the age of 37. That record would eventually be broken in 1994 by 45-year-old George Foreman. Despite holding the world heavyweight title for a relatively short period of time, Walcott was regarded among the best heavyweights in the world during the 1940s and 1950s.

One of my favorite fighters of all time! Walcott was a sublime boxer-puncher who had dazzling footwork and some of the best counter-punching ability you'll ever see from a Heavyweight. He became one of the oldest champions at the reported age of 37 (many believe him to have been 40+ at the time) and his devastating uppercut knockout against Ezzard Charles is one of the greatest KO's in boxing history. Jersey Joe at his best! www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

According to most observers, Walcott beat Joe Louis in their first fight. Louis was so sure he lost that he left the ring before the decision was announced. Walcott actually got more slick and tricky as he got more experienced. In other words, Walcott's "prime" years may have been in his thirties.

Yes! One of my top five favorite heavyweights and all-time favorite boxers! The real Cinderella Man and formerly the oldest world heavyweight champion before George Foreman took that title. Louis, Walcott, Charles, Marciano. What a magnificent era. Louis was way past his prime and Charles was naturally a LHW, but damn they gave us some great fights. Some of the finest pugilist to ever lace them up.
@Alex-cw3rz
@Alex-cw3rz 8 месяцев назад
I would not say Charles was naturally a LHW, seen as in the 1950s he couldn't even get down to that weight class, he was the best Light Heavyweight of all time that is for sure, but that does not mean he was only comfortable in light heavyweight, his last ever win, he knocked out a 6ft 6 guy weighing 261lbs. Joe Louis was out if his prime but he did say his punches only got harder with age and he wasn't in his prime, but he was still great.

@Broly ssj Nah, already did. I just mentioned that in the previous post lol. You study what I said in the post before. Prime doesn’t have to be age. Hence, when he was younger he lost to lesser guys in his “prime”. Meanwhile, almost counts in horseshoes and car accidents anyway….Rocky was being nice as we will never know (he said that to Walcott directly on his show). There were two more rounds! Almost bull shit! Rocky destroyed him in the second fight in one round

A legend that was very under appreciated and highly disliked by the boxing industry because he was much better than the headline figureheads. Took him over a decade to receive the title he deserved and he earned it well more than anyone before him. It's nice to see someone remembering the REAL DEAL legends that fought without "supplements" or anything like that, just hard work and style. 15 round boxing matches, some of them outside, no air conditioning or heating. Joe Walcott was one of the best. A HEAVY HITTING counter-puncher that I swear seemed to have the precision of a SURGEON. It was like he knew JUST the right number of inches to move this or that, JUST when to land his punches. Moved pretty dang good for a big boy too. And quite the gentleman as well.

I don't necessarily think Usyk and Loma were sitting there for countless hours just watching films of Walcott they've never mentioned him in any interviews, their styles were developed over 100's of amateur fights and good teachings from their trainers. Natural ability certainly helps too.

@@hanzagod firstly can I ask where do you get all your footage from? Is it just from RU-vid or archives? Secondly you don't develop wallcott's footwork just from fighting a lot, it is very unique. I believe it was Loma's trainer who said it. Well 2 guys who are known for their amazing footwork probably do watch and try to emulate footwork from some of the best footwork seen in boxing, garentuee they watch Ali, Willie Pep etc. And study what they did.

Still if Walcott could get in close there is a good chance he sparks Fury could with a slip into a counter left stright, or a brutal counter uppercut as Fury slipped to the outside. It would be a treat fight Walcott stylistically is one of the few past champions that would be a dangerous fighter for Fury.

Walcott's worst performance in the ring, in fact the only real bad one, was when he was the 3rd man between the ropes in the Ali/Liston return match. He couldn't make Ali, who was standing shouting right above Liston, go to neutral corner, which made it difficult for Walcott to correctly pick up the count. Nevertheless, Ali would've won regardless of how many seconds Liston was down.
