My Uncle Ray, who is dead now, he served 19 yrs in Marion. 1978 was when he went in. He had scars from multiple stabbings. Ray was a scary guy even when he was in his 70’s. I was glad he eventually got out of prison. He always said he was in the A.B. I had no reason to doubt it. He had the tats, had photos from his time inside. He also had the craziest stories I have ever heard. RIP Uncle Ray!
There was a big ass scary looking dude at my old gym in east county San Diego who had Ab tattoos and swastikas' and I just avoided him and the other woods. One day he came over and asked if he could join in with me I was like dafuq.👀He told me he wasnt racist and basically had to side up in jail. We ended up becoming gym bros before they shut the gym down. Talk about dont judge a book by its cover, I hope he got that shit removed.
Prisons are a whole different world it seems, even as an outsider from a whole different country. Seems like you really have to survive in that concrete jungle and do what it takes even if you don't agree with it.

Yeah I went to prison when I was 19, hung around the woods, and got “wood,” tattooed on my fingers. I am 35 now, never went back to prison, still got “wood,” on my fingers. When I would wait tables / bartend I used to get some dirty looks 😂 but all the prison b.s is in the past
Crazy... glad I never joined a gang. Even though that's all I grew up around my life. I'm still young, I'm in my mid 20's but I been around this since middle school. Homies I went to school with are either dead or serving 25 to life sentences now. I was smart enough to make my bread and stay out the mix. I never liked the idea of having to take orders from anyone. I would rather move alone and learn through experience, through trial and tribulations. I fell many times but always learned from each mistake.. to anyone thinking they're missing out, you're not. Yeah it looks fun going out to party and having these women around but it ain't worth it in the end, it only lasts for so long. My advice is stay in school and make a decent living for starters and grow from that. Always put your family first cause that's all u have when ur locked away or even on a hospital bed. Get that "fear of missing out" out of your head and you'll be alright. Most of these cats are snakes anyway, they'll shake your hand with one hand and a smile on their face but have a gun behind their back with the other hand and Ill intentions floating in their head. They're not to be trusted.. the street life ain't it and will never be.

Your last point is too true. The “gang” from the block I grew up at always talked smack about snitches. One day they all got caught up with an incident. Once they were all in custody and were having their court proceedings, they all ended up snitching on each other 🤣
I can feel this. I grew up with a bunch of gang members, they were just my neighborhood homies and people I grew up with, partied with, did "business" with. I was always a graffiti writer so the crowds kinda mix. The dude's I grew up with started getting prison time and after a while they got hit with a multi agency racketeering sting with murders, drug sales, money laundering etc. I'm glad I stayed away from that shit fr.
My first celly was AB. He picked me to move in. Literally the most thorough man I've ever met. He would run into any cell with me. Fully had my back. I got carried away once and he was gonna take the charges for me but nothing ever came of it

This is insane I work in all these cities inspecting the section 8 or “housing voucher” properties as they are now called. Literally going to barstow in the morning. A lot of cities in San Bernardino county are rough the entire county has issues

One of my closest friends did a few tours of San Quinton and when he finally got free he had joined the AB, not because he was against others nationalities or anything but mostly out of self preservation, and although he never shared those same ideologies, he had essentially no choice when a few AB members got into his cell and murdered his celly, either you join us or no witness. I had a friend that did time in the Feds and ended up in USP Marrion where he met Tom Silverstien. He is the guy that got him into Yogo believe it or not. When he got out he eventually wrote a book about his time. He had to get permission from the AB to talk about anything to do with them. The AB has a Long and Terrifying Reach, even on the Outside World.

I can tell you what worked for me - see a good psychiatrist asap, most alcohol drug use is due to depression and anxiety or other mental issues -go get yourself medical help to get sober without tremors or dying - start working out everyday until exhaustion - stop hanging out with people who drink - get a job, it gives you purpose - restart the hobbies you had before you started drinking all the time - maybe even use kratom, modafinil it helps with cravings -be grateful and proud of yr struggle and your ability to overcome it - find a good support system You can do it, and it's worth doing, getting fcked up all day is a waste of life and potential You got this man

I almost turned off because of the voice but I kept with it and the content is amazing. This gives a great story of how they came to be. You only usually hear about each of them in documentaries but this gives a great detail of jow each moved around woth each other and how rivalroes where built. Very good

Yeah, but to some people, that's a feature of the system, not a problem, sadly. Education and Prison have needed reform for multiple generations only to cycle the same drain of short-term material profit over long-term societal gain.
