One of those very rare tracks that the first time I heard it I stopped dead in my tracks astounded at the truly amazing and quite unique vocals that was blaring out of my radio...
Twas, is and always will be something of quite a unique vocal sound from the late great Billy MacKenzie that once heard is never forgotten. Some at the time got it while others were quite dumfounded by Billy's unique vocal talents, personally for me from my first hearing I was hooked and almost 4 decades later I still am, this one will always be in my top ten tracks of all time... :-)
Cleaned Up, Brightened Up & ReDubbed with a crisp clean soundtrack... enjoy... :-)

Another musical genius gone too soon. Alan Rankine co-founder of the unique duo "The Associates" has passed away at just age 64... Alan along with Billy MacKenzie brought a breath of fresh air of sound, style & lyrics to the early 80's music scene, some didn't quite get it at the time but came to eventually appreciate the musical genius of the pair much later on and all the way up till today... T'was a great time and era to be young in, often spoiled for choice by the amazing bands & artists around at the time who had that magical touch of creating sounds, styles & music the likes of which has never been seen since... Thank you to both Alan & Billy for being a very important sound of my youth and for the past 4 decades, your musical genius, talents & legacy will live on forever...

They appeared on Parkinson and blew my mind. The very next day I popped into Beggars Banquet in Earls Court to buy the record at lunchtime. Mind blown again - Billy was working behind the counter. I was speechless, and he was thrilled to meet a fanboy. He gave me the 12" free and signed it - a treasured possession still. The least I could do was buy "Fourth Drawer Down" which he also signed. Lovely chap. "Sulk" came out shortly later. Totally defined that period of my life.

I remember this song being released when I was around 12 years old. I was utterly fascinated by it and also a little scared of it. The histrionic vocals, the haunting piano track and the overall melody was something I'd never heard before at that age, and the song has stuck with me ever since. I don't think they ever came close to this magic again, despite having some decent tracks elsewhere. It was one of those fiercely unique songs that the 80s were known for. In an age now where everything sounds the same, I don't envy todays youth who will never be blown away by four minutes of absolute genius.
@kennztube
@kennztube 29 дней назад
You are correct and of course everything is the same, this is proved by a video on here where an audio engineer demonstrates how music is set to a template of beats pre minute and loudness, also a lot of sampling from guess what...eighties tracks!
@MadFranko008
@MadFranko008 22 дня назад
@@kennztube Cobblers... you clearly haven't listened to a solitary great piece of music where the BPM changes throughout the track, or a great music track that is quiet and doesn't have to be "loud" to be great... I won't even bother to mention that most great music involves no sampling whatsoever... Pretty limited in your experience of music it would seem !!! PS: Nothing is "the same" cept of course for the banal, bland, same sounding drivel the music industry churns out these days by talentless wonders who couldn't perform live or play an instrument to save themselves...

Quite simple really, it is so different from everything else of the time (and now for that matter) that most people couldn't quite get their heads around it... Those that did get it at the time knew it was something quite unique and outstanding and it's taken almost four decades for others to finally catch up and appreciate this very unique and amazing sound... 😉 Mind you, there are still some who don't quite get it and will never appreciate it but hey, that's their loss... 😉

The way she wears her head (reference to a Nada Surf song). Captivating.
