Ever is a long time... Almpst all inspiration comes to us from the spiritworld. In Heaven is music far beyond our imagination and capacity to feel with these senses. We expand and sing throughout eternity !
A cherished song from my youth. I recently read that Martha is living with Parkinson's, a diagnosis you would not wish on an enemy. Martha, God bless you and your family.
"Echo Beach" is a song recorded by Canadian band Martha and the Muffins in 1979. Written by band member Mark Gane, it was released as a single from their Metro Music album in 1980 and won the Juno Award for single from the 'year. It was certified gold in Canada on October 1, 1980, a month after Metro Music achieved gold status. Their best known title is Echo Beach; it is also the only one to have had real international success, although they have had several others in Canada. It reached No. 10 on the UK Singles Chart, and No. 6 on the Australian Singles Chart. While Echo Beach did not exist as a real location, it was a symbol of a place everyone wants to escape to when they're not where they want to be. The inspiration was Sunnyside Beach on the shoreline of Lake Ontario in Toronto.
Merci, quand j'ai acheté ce vynil à sa sortie,je devais être le seul. Et maintenant,il y a des musiques de pub son thé Clash. Heureusement, ils nous laisse Martha, et Ace of Spade Motorhead
2024, why can't we we have music anymore? We need another Elvis to shake things up. Bless everyone who reads this. I see I just wrote''we'' twice, so what? Have a wonderful and blessed day.
I was whistling the saxophone solo (as I do from time to time) in a supermarket queue the other day & when I'd reached the end a woman's voice from behind me started singing..... Echo beach, far away in time. It brought a smile to both our faces.
The Guitar playing at the start was consider cutting edge at the time. What about JIGSAW ... SKYHIGH. To me great Guitar playing. Old fart i know but who cares
I see everyone sharing their ages, and it fills me with joy knowing so many of you have great tastes in music! I am 32, born in ‘91 and this group is gold. Also proud to be a Canadian like them. Wishing you all the best! ✌🏻
Who doesn't go to ANY beach, no matter how bad or good an experience it is, this song will pop into your head at some point no matter how long ago you heard it play.
Not just the music is fantastic, the concept of Echo Beach is the ultimate dream, getting away from everything into solitude. "My job is very boring I'm an office clerk", hahahaha, such a grand sentiment.
She went on to be the keyboard player in The Associates, check out the video for Party Fears 2. She also did backing vocals for Roxy Music and Robert Palmer. Later she followed an academic career and is a dean/professor at a university
This song will transcend time and space and has no boundaries. It is made for people of all ages to enjoy for many many generations to come and I blast it very loud to in order to shatter my ear drums until I get eargasms. Ohh it feels so good! Great Band, great performance. I'm so proud that they are Canadians! Indeed great fusion of sax, keyboards and guitars as mentioned by tonygreen6185.
All time favorite, it brings back so many great memories, surfing in Lacanau, playing martha's music at night on a beach, fire laughters and great people. All you nice people in my memory, I love you all 🙂 well, hum, i must admit, i was - and still am actually - sooooo in love with Martha Ladly, always find her tellement craquante !
I always though that Martha and the Muffins were always a Mod band, regarding their other songs, but I agree that this DOES have a proper New Wave flavour, after the Punk era.
There was an alternative nightclub in Dublin in 1988 called 'The Source', this was always played, great song to dance to, first kissed my wife there, oh my word what a time.
I was born in Feb/82 grew up listening to my big sister’s 🖤 punk records & then I was in my late teens in my local pub we had this on juke box CLASS !! X
One of the great pop songs of the early 80's. Still love it and reminds me of my early teens. I wish I could revisit for a few months. That happy /sad feeling......
If I had a famous rock band, I would do a cover album. This would be the first cover. Takes me back to being 5 years old listening to the radio in Vancouver in our station wagon with no seatbelt on, wearing Levi's and rugby shirts, the future was bright, and people still loved eachother. Take me back...
One of the best saxophone leads I've ever heard, incredibly memorable. I only wish it had been longer. Echo Beach: far away in time. How long ago. How fresh in memory.
@@francisfake782 it would be very long to explain here but i can say it perfectly captures the feeling of who i was at the moment this song came out. 15 years old, with my life in front of me and how happy i was back then
I'm an 80's teenager but I confess that I've never heard of them before until now! The moment I heard the first few notes of the intro, I instantly loved them! Why have I missed this band is a great mystery to me!
You must of missed these 2 from the same era then ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rn8jPj9g_CM.html & ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kUUA0Fdw_6Q.html
They just need to put it in a popular show or game. Stranger Things brought back Kate Bush and Grand Theft Auto 6 brought Tom Petty to a new generation.
I was playing this on my pirate radio station when i was teen. There was a record shop where i was going and the owner let me playing the records and hear the songs. I was lucky to hit this song. After so many years the sound is fresh.
I live a couple hours from Toronto and everytime I go to Toronto for a metal show i always have a walk on Echo beach just for this song. I'm more of a country boy but being from Vancouver British Columbia but since I've lived in Ontario most of my life. This song always makes me feel like I'm more in touch with Toronto.
Not surprised at all. This song was a huge hit in Australia (when visiting there in 1991-92, more than one person, on hearing I was Canadian, mentioned this band as one of the things they knew about Canada). And Bali is crawling with Aussies. On the darker side, I hear that this isn't the only Canadian export that made it to Bali via Australia; I'm told that the Rock Machine were established there for a while.
I remember the backstory of how this song came to me. Martha & the Muffins had to travel to the United Kingdom to get the record deal. In early 1980, the album was released. This song went to #1 on the BILLBOARD UK chart. The song made it back to the group's native Canada and went to #4 on the BILLBOARD Canadian music chart. I think back to the Canadian pop music countdown show when I first heard the song. The summer of 1980, when anything was still possible. Too bad the end of the song came true. Both Echo Beach and the summer of 1980 are far away in time. But I can still reminisce. And that is what I will do.
James Wilson the chart positions I listed are correct. Numerous sites list this info. I recently lost a bet for thinking this song was a hit #1 in Canada. This song like many from the 80's seem bigger 40 years later. It wasn't even their biggest in the US. Black Station/White Station hit #2 on US Dance charts.
